Rehabilitation protocols vary according to the osseointegration (OI) implant system and the institutions implanting bone-anchored limbs (BALs). While there are limited peer-reviewed OI publications quantifying details for optimizing surgical candidacy and rehabilitation protocols to ensure support across the BAL spectrum, the authors recommend a multidisciplinary team approach over the user's lifetime. Breakout sessions at the Global Collaborative Congress on OI (GCCO) were convened around key topics, including rehabilitation.

Purpose: The Ahmed FP-7 valve is useful in the management of refractory glaucoma. However, this can often have ocular hypertensive phase and subconjunctival fibrosis that can lead to increased medication use and failure. We report how retrobulbar and intraconal plate placement with tube extension can avoid the ocular hypertensive phase, lower intraocular pressure, and reduce medication burden.

Background: Adverse events in nursing homes, which are unintended incidents causing unnecessary harm to older residents. Previous studies in Chinese populations often focused on adverse events in hospitals, rather than residents in nursing homes. Additionally, they tended to focus on single incident rather than multiple types of adverse events.

Blood-based biomarkers (BBBM) could play a critical role in the identification and referral of patients suspected of AD to specialty care. A multidisciplinary AD Biomarker Task Force was convened to evaluate current biomarker use cases, define an optimal biomarker-enabled AD diagnostic care pathway, and understand factors impacting adoption.

: Selective cryolipolysis is a widely used aesthetic procedure that cools subcutaneous adipose tissue to temperatures as low as to induce fat cell destruction. However, real-time monitoring techniques are lacking, limiting the ability to optimize safety and efficacy. Traditional imaging methods either fail to provide adequate penetration depth or lack the resolution necessary for visualizing subcutaneous fatty tissue dynamics.

Objective: To further understand spatial relationships of common carotid arteries to adjacent structures through evaluation of computed tomographic angiograms in dogs.
Animals: 24 pet dogs.
Procedure: A database was searched for triplanar computed tomographic angiograms that included the heart base caudally and the 5th cervical vertebra cranially, without macroscopic abnormalities.

Aims: Treatment of patients with cancer presenting with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is complex given the increased risk of both thrombotic and major bleeding complications.
Methods And Results: A nationally linked cohort of STEMI patients between January 2005 and March 2019 was obtained from the UK Myocardial Infarction National Audit Project and the UK National Hospital Episode Statistics Admitted Patient Care registries. The primary outcomes were major bleeding and re-infarction at 1 year following admission with STEMI.

We present a series of network analyses aiming to uncover the symptom constellations of depression, anxiety and somatization among 2,796 adult primary health care attendees in Goa, India, a low- and middle-income country (LMIC). Depression and anxiety are the leading neuropsychiatric causes of disability. Yet, the diagnostic boundaries and the characteristics of their dynamically intertwined symptom constellations remain obscure, particularly in non-Western settings.

Background: Research on patients with persistent symptoms despite prior treatment for Lyme disease can be challenging to interpret given the diversity of criteria selected to characterize Lyme disease and to define the syndrome of those with persistent symptoms. Because most research studies only include patients with well-documented prior Lyme disease, the generalizability of the study results is limited, excluding the larger group of patients often seen in community practice who do not meet these stringent enrollment criteria. Researchers at the Lyme and other Tick-borne Diseases Clinical Trials Network (LTD-CTN) recognized early on that a research classification system was needed to facilitate the design of studies that are more inclusive.

Mesenteric hematomas, a rare and clinically significant condition, are typically associated with abdominal trauma, vascular conditions, or surgical complications. Spontaneous mesenteric hematomas, an even rarer subtype, are often seen in patients who are on anticoagulation therapy or have inguinal hernias. In this case report, we discuss an 89-year-old male patient who initially presented with stable vital signs and abdominal pain but was later discovered to have a large, stable mesenteric hematoma on an abdominal computed tomography scan.

Fluorescent labeling techniques have enabled the visualization of various biomolecules, cellular structures, and their associated physiological processes. At the same time, there remains a demand for developing novel fluorescent compounds possessing unique chemical properties for biological imaging. A recently developed class of fluorophores, termed , displays optimal brightness and large Stokes shifts that are ideal for fluorescence microscopy.

Metabolic testing can provide phenotypical information that can be used to personalize treatment so that people remain in negative energy balance during weight loss and remain in energy balance during maintenance. Behavioral testing can assess the reinforcing value and change in the temporal window related to the personalized diet and exercise program to motivate people to maintain engagement in healthier eating and activity programs.

Soft micropillar arrays enable detailed studies of cellular mechanotransduction and biomechanics using traditional beam-bending models. However, they often rely on simplified assumptions, leading to significant errors in force estimation. We present MechanoBioCAD (MBC), a finite element method (FEM)-based tool designed specifically for micropillar research and error estimation.

Pediatric Spitz melanoma (SM) with bonafide metastatic disease is rare. In this study, we assembled the largest cohort to date of pediatric SM with a verified Spitz-associated genomic driver and clinical follow-up demonstrating bonafide metastasis. We compared the clinical, morphologic, and molecular features of these SMs to a control cohort of 57 pediatric atypical Spitz tumors (ASTs).

Active shooter planning for special education classrooms requires considerations commensurate to the needs of students with mobility, cognitive, auditory, visual, and communicative limitations. The federally established Run, Hide, Fight response methodology has no modified alternative for students who are not able to meet the criteria to run, hide, or fight. School districts that implement Run, Hide, Fight plans without any modified alternatives for special education students expose a compliance lapse of the American Disabilities Act, the Department of Education's Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and the National Preparedness Goal.

Background: The experiences of clinical ethicists have recently begun to garner some attention, but very little is known about the emotional impact of clinical ethics work on clinical ethicists. The purpose of our study was to explore the experiences of clinical ethicists in the United States in order to better understand the impact that their professional responsibilities have on them as people, as well as to learn about the ways in which organizational structures and coping mechanisms help them navigate the emotional impact of their work.
Methods: This was a primary analysis of 34 semi-structured interviews with clinical ethicists across the United States.

Area-based approaches have long dominated biodiversity conservation and have been reinforced by the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The important plant area (IPA) approach is a leading framework for the spatial conservation prioritization of plants and fungi, but over 20 years since its launch, its application and conservation outcomes remained unevaluated. Through systematic mapping and semistructured interviews of key informants, we evaluated IPAs globally.

Schottky diodes have been a fundamental component of electrical circuits for many decades, and intense research continues to this day on planar materials with increasingly exotic compounds. With the birth of nanotechnology, a paradigm shift occurred with Schottky contacts proving to be essential for enabling nanodevice inventions and increasing their performance by many orders of magnitude, particularly in the fields of piezotronics and piezoelectric energy harvesting. ZnO nanomaterials have proven to be the most popular materials in those devices as they possess high piezoelectric coefficients, high surface sensitivity, and low resistivity due to the high native n-type doping and low hole concentration.
