Variations in Perioperative Thromboprophylaxis Practices: Do the Guidelines Need a Closer Look?

Background: In 2022, the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS) published joint guidelines regarding the timing, duration, and choice of agent for perioperative venous thromboembolism prophylaxis for thoracic cancer patients. Now, 1 year after their release, we looked to assess practices and general adherence to these recommendations.

Methods: We conducted a survey among board-certified/board-eligible thoracic surgeons in the United States, between July and October 2023.

MO-GCN: A multi-omics graph convolutional network for discriminative analysis of schizophrenia.

The methodology of machine learning with multi-omics data has been widely adopted in the discriminative analyses of schizophrenia, but most of these studies ignored the cooperative interactions and topological attributes of multi-omics networks. In this study, we constructed three types of brain graphs (BGs), three types of gut graphs (GGs), and nine types of brain-gut combined graphs (BGCGs) for each individual. We proposed a novel methodology of multi-omics graph convolutional network (MO-GCN) with an attention mechanism to construct a classification model by integrating all BGCGs.

Crown ethers have been shown to have physiological effects ascribed to their ionophoric properties. However, high levels of toxicity precluded interest in their evaluation as therapeutic agents. We prepared new silacrown analogs of crown ethers.

Endometrium-Free Closure Technique During Cesarean Delivery for Reducing the Risk of Niche Formation and Placenta Accreta Spectrum Disorders.

Objective: To examine the prevalence and severity of postcesarean residual niche, evaluated using saline infusion sonohysterography, in an expanded cohort of women with one prior cesarean delivery and to assess the effect of uterine closure technique on the risk of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) disorders.

Methods: This secondary analysis includes 70 patients who underwent saline infusion sonohysterography after one prior cesarean delivery. Patients were grouped according to hysterotomy closure technique: two-layer endometrium-free closure (technique A), and two- or one-layer routine closures (technique B).

Lateral Sternoclavicular Joint Dislocation: A Case Report.

Case: We report a case of a 29-year-old woman who sustained a left lateral sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) dislocation. Imaging demonstrated a 30-mm gap between the sternum and medial clavicle. Given well-preserved shoulder range of motion and well-controlled pain, she was ultimately treated nonoperatively.

Objectives: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is characterized by colonic inflammation, with neutrophils playing a key role in UC activity, prognosis, and response to therapies. Current UC therapeutics can have significant side effects and limited efficacy. ADS051 is a novel, oral, gut-restricted small molecule that modulates neutrophil migration and activation without in vitro suppression of T-cell activation.

Radical Resection of a Radial Ewing Sarcoma and Ulnar Centralization in a 10-Month-Old Girl: A Case Report.

Case: We outline the management of a 10-month-old girl with an Ewing sarcoma involving the entire radius. The patient was treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy resulting in almost a complete response. A limb-sparing procedure was performed consisting of a radical resection of the entire radius and centralization of the carpus to the ulna.

Exploration of designing an automatic classifier for questions containing code snippets-A case study of Oracle SQL certification exam questions.

This study uses the Oracle SQL certification exam questions to explore the design of automatic classifiers for exam questions containing code snippets. SQL's question classification assigns a class label in the exam topics to a question. With this classification, questions can be selected from the test bank according to the testing scope to assemble a more suitable test paper.

Common and uncommon risky drinking patterns in young adulthood uncovered by person-specific computational modeling.

Objective: Alcohol use offers social benefits for young adults, but also carries risk of significant negative consequences. Better understanding of processes driving alcohol use for those who experience negative consequences can prevent these harms. These at-risk young adults likely have drinking patterns in common and patterns unique to each individual.

Implementation of carceral medicaid suspension and enrollment programs: perspectives of carceral and medicaid leaders.

Background: Medicaid expansion via the Affordable Care Act, more recent legislation and Medicaid 1115 waivers offer opportunity to increase health care access among individuals involved in the carceral system. Effective enrollment of new beneficiaries and temporary suspension and reactivation of existing Medicaid benefits upon release is key to the success of these efforts. This study aims to characterize how jails, prisons and Medicaid agencies are implementing Medicaid suspension and enrollment programs and identifies barriers and facilitators to implementation.

Oocyte maturation defect in women undergoing IVF: contributing factors and effects on mature sibling oocyte outcomes.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify demographic and clinical factors associated with low maturation rates and to investigate if the rate of immature oocytes impacts the outcomes of mature sibling oocytes.

Methods: Women undergoing their first IVF-ICSI cycle between 2018 and 2022 at a fertility clinic were included. Cycles were classified into five groups according to the proportion of Metaphase II stage oocytes (MII): Null (0% MII, n = 46), Poor (1-25% MII, n = 44), Low (26-50% MII, n = 453), Acceptable (51-75% MII, n = 1641), and Optimal (76-100% MII, n = 2642).

Mutations in the exonuclease domains of the replicative nuclear DNA polymerases POLD1 and POLE are associated with increased cancer incidence, elevated tumor mutation burden (TMB), and enhanced response to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB). Although ICB is approved for treatment of several cancers, not all tumors with elevated TMB respond, highlighting the need for a better understanding of how TMB affects tumor biology and subsequently immunotherapy response. Importance: Identification of individuals at high risk of alcohol use disorder (AUD) and subsequent application of prevention and intervention programs has been reported to decrease the incidence of AUD. The polygenic score (PGS), which measures an individual's genetic liability to a disease, can potentially be used to evaluate AUD risk.

Objective: To assess the estimability and generalizability of the PGS, compared with family history and ADH1B, in evaluating the risk of AUD among populations of European ancestry.

Outcomes of Older Adults and Frail Patients Receiving Idecabtagene Vicleucel: A CIBMTR Study.

Idecabtagene vicleucel (ide-cel) is an anti-BCMA CAR-T cell therapy approved for patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) after 2 prior lines of therapy. There is limited data on outcomes of CAR T in older adults and frail patients with RRMM. In this study, we utilized data from the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplantation Registry to describe the safety and efficacy of ide-cel in these clinically important subgroups.

Odronextamab monotherapy in R/R DLBCL after progression with CAR T-cell therapy: Primary analysis of the ELM-1 study.

Patients with relapsed/refractory (R/R) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) progressing after chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy (CAR T) have dismal outcomes. The prespecified post-CAR T expansion cohort of the ELM-1 study investigated the efficacy and safety of odronextamab, a CD20×CD3 bispecific antibody, in patients with disease progression after CAR T.
