Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis compares the efficacy and complication rate of absorbable versus non-absorbable 3D-printed, patient-customized, maxillofacial implants in facial trauma patients.

Data Sources: A comprehensive search of four databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane) was conducted.

Methods: A systematic review and single-proportion meta-analysis was conducted employing PRISMA guidelines.

Stress Management Program for Scanxiety in People With Advanced Lung Cancer: Intervention Adaptation and Stakeholder Feedback.

Background: Although scanxiety is common and impactful for people with advanced lung cancer, few interventions address this psychosocial concern.

Aims: To create a stress management program for scanxiety.

Methods: We conducted a structured intervention adaptation process guided by the ADAPT-ITT framework.

Febrile infection-related epilepsy syndrome (FIRES) is a rare clinical presentation of refractory status epilepticus following a febrile infection. This study analyzes data from the NORSE/FIRES Family Registry, an international web-based registry available in six languages with data entered by patients, families, and clinicians to explore clinical presentations, survivorship, and long-term outcomes in adult and pediatric FIRES patients. We characterize and examine differences in demographics, prodromal symptoms, seizure frequency, anti-seizure medications (ASMs), quality of life, cognition, mood, and anxiety in adults vs pediatric populations with FIRES.

Use of continuous cardiac monitoring to assess the influence of atrial fibrillation burden and patterns on patient symptoms and healthcare utilization: The DEFINE AFib study.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) has a significant impact on health and quality of life. The relationship of AF burden and temporal patterns of AF on patient symptoms, outcomes, and healthcare utilization is unknown. Insertable cardiac monitors (ICMs) are a strategic and as yet untapped, tool to investigate these relationships.

Tissue-Specific Ablation of Liver Fatty Acid-Binding Protein Induces a Metabolically Healthy Obese Phenotype in Female Mice.

Background/objectives: Obesity is associated with numerous metabolic complications including insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and a reduced capacity for physical activity. Whole-body ablation of liver fatty acid-binding protein (LFABP) in mice was shown to alleviate several of these metabolic complications; high fat (HF) fed LFABP knockout (LFABP) mice developed higher fat mass than their wild-type (WT) counterparts but displayed a metabolically healthy obese (MHO) phenotype with normoglycemia, normoinsulinemia, and reduced hepatic steatosis compared with WT. LFABP is expressed in both liver and intestine, thus in the present study, LFABP conditional knockout (cKO) mice were generated to determine the contributions of LFABP specifically within the liver or the intestine to the whole body phenotype of the global knockout.

Unlabelled: The choice of media and feeds significantly influences the performance of Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) mammalian cell cultures in producing desired biologics like monoclonal antibodies (mAb). Sub-optimal nutrient feed/media composition can severely impact cell proliferation and the quality of the final mAb product. For instance, proper protein glycosylation, crucial for mAb stability, safety, and efficacy, heavily relies on cell culture conditions.

Introduction The Synaptive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system (Synaptive Medical, Toronto, Canada) is a midfield 0.5 T head-only scanner for imaging the head and neck in adults and pediatrics. The system received US FDA and Health Canada clearance for clinical use in 2020.

Background: Reading impairments, a common consequence of stroke-induced aphasia, significantly hinder life participation, affecting both functional and leisure activities. Traditional post-stroke rehabilitation strategies often show limited generalization beyond trained materials, underscoring the need for novel interventions targeting the underlying neural mechanisms.

Method: This study investigates the feasibility and potential effectiveness of real-time functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) neurofeedback (NFB) intervention for reading deficits associated with stroke and aphasia.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Multiple Myeloma: A Call to Action.

Background: Although advancements in multiple myeloma therapy have rapidly evolved, pervasive racial and social inequities prevent uniform benefit across diverse patient populations. This affects access to US Food and Drug Administration-approved treatments and to clinical studies. The impact of health-care inequities is not well understood and thus, the development of effective strategies is inadequate.

An optimized plasmalogen modulating dietary supplement provides greater protection in a male than female mouse model of dilated cardiomyopathy.

We previously reported that plasmalogens, a class of phospholipids, were decreased in a setting of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Plasmalogen levels can be modulated via a dietary supplement called alkylglycerols (AG) which has demonstrated benefits in some disease settings. However, its therapeutic potential in DCM remained unknown.

Background: Household transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) may play a key role in times of increased infection, particularly among children. We aimed to determine the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies and identify risk factors associated with SARS-CoV-2 antibody positivity in children.

Methods: Unvaccinated children aged 18 months to 11 years between August 2022 and June 2023 underwent oral fluid testing for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies.

Opioid use disorder is heritable, yet its genetic etiology is largely unknown. C57BL/6J and C57BL/6NJ mouse substrains exhibit phenotypic diversity in the context of limited genetic diversity which together can facilitate genetic discovery. Here, we found C57BL/6NJ mice were less sensitive to oxycodone (OXY)-induced locomotor activation versus C57BL/6J mice in a conditioned place preference paradigm.

Upcycling Poly(vinyl chloride) and Polystyrene Plastics Using Photothermal Conversion.

Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and polystyrene (PS) are among the least recycled plastics. In this work, we developed a simple and novel strategy to valorize PVC and PS plastics via photothermal conversion to (1-chloroethyl)benzene, a commodity chemical with excellent versatility. As PVC is known to release HCl gas and decompose into conjugated polyenes, we envisioned a dual role for PVC plastics.

Safety, efficacy, and mechanism of action of the temporo-masseteric nerve block.

The objective of the study was to assess the utility and safety of Temporo-masseteric Nerve Block (TMNB), and to explore the mechanism for its apparent sustained pain relief. This manuscript describes, (1) a retrospective study evaluating pain reduction in patients who received the TMNB injection for the management of masticatory myogeneous pain (myalgia, per Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (DC/TMD criteria)), and (2) a motor nerve conduction study (NCS) of the temporalis and masseter, performed in the absence of signs or symptoms of TMD, before and after the TMNB injection. The results were as follows.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate whether the use of period- or fertility-tracking technologies decreased from pre- to post-Dobbs and to identify user characteristics and changes in reasons for use.

Study Design: We used data from the Surveys of Women, population-based surveys on reproductive health among self-identified women aged 18 to 44 years, conducted in five states. We compared the prevalence of use of period- or fertility-tracking technologies and reasons for use pre-Dobbs (2018-2019 in Iowa and Ohio; 2019-2020 in Arizona, New Jersey, and Wisconsin) and post-Dobbs (2022-2023 in all five states), overall and stratified by state.

Arteriovenous Fistula Creation and Care in an Office-Based Practice Compared to Hospital Based Care.

Objectives: This study evaluates and compares outcomes of arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) created in a dialysis access dedicated office-based laboratory (OBL) and outpatient hospital setting.

Methods: All consecutive outpatient surgical autologous AVFs created at an academic hospital, community hospital, and an OBL from 2016-2020 were reviewed. Demographics, comorbidities, surgical procedure, complications, maturation, patency, and procedures for maintenance were assessed from time of surgical evaluation to latest available documentation.

Transcatheter versus Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement in Patients Younger than 65 Years in the US.

Objective: To characterize trends and outcomes of aortic valve replacement in patients <65 with aortic stenosis between 2013 and 2021.

Methods: This retrospective analysis included 9,557 patients who underwent biological aortic valve replacement in California, New York, and New Jersey from 2013 through 2021. Patients were stratified by approach: transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) versus surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR).

Autophagy related 7 (ATG7) regulates food intake and liver health during asparaginase exposure.

Amino acid starvation by the chemotherapy agent asparaginase is a potent activator of the integrated stress response (ISR) in liver and can upregulate autophagy in some cell types. We hypothesized that autophagy related 7 (ATG7), a protein that is essential for autophagy and an ISR target gene, was necessary during exposure to asparaginase to maintain liver health. We knocked down Atg7 systemically (Atg7) or in hepatocytes only (ls-Atg7KO) in mice before exposure to pegylated asparaginase for 5 d.
