The exploration of natural antifungal substances from algal origins is significant due to the increasing resistance of pathogens to conventional antifungal agents and the growing consumer demand for natural products. This manuscript represents the inaugural investigation into the antifungal attributes of bioactive compounds extracted from via supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO) extraction utilizing contemporary countercurrent chromatography (CCC). In aligning with the prospective utilization of this extract within the agricultural sector, this study also serves as the preliminary report demonstrating the capability of scCO extract to enhance the activity of plant resistance enzymes.

Polymer concrete is a promising material with applications in construction and architecture; however, guidelines for its design and optimization are not well-established in the literature. This study aimed to evaluate how resin volume fraction and aggregate size distribution affect key properties of polyester polymer concrete, including flexural strength, compressive strength, water absorption, and material cost. Three types of quartz aggregates with different particle size distributions were used, as follows: small (below 0.

This study investigates the underutilized potential of agri-crops from the family by employing sustainable and green technologies (supercritical fluid, ultrasound, and Soxhlet extractions) to enhance the recovery of bioactive compounds. A total of 21 extracts from native and waste seeds of dandelion, milk thistle, and chamomile were systematically compared utilizing a combination of solvents (supercritical CO and absolute or aqueous ethanol). Supercritical CO extraction yielded up to 281 mg/g of oils from native seeds, while conventional techniques with ethanol recovered an additional 142 mg/g of extracts from waste seeds.

Tiliroside is a natural polyphenolic compound with a wide range of biological activity, and defatted strawberry seeds are its rich source. The goal of this study was to optimize accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) conditions, including temperature, solvent composition, and the number of extraction cycles, using Box-Behnken design to maximize the yield of tiliroside. UPLC-DAD-MS was applied to investigate the polyphenolic composition of the extracts, and preparative liquid chromatography (pLC) was used for isolation.

An eco-friendly approach towards the recovery of value-added extracts from olive tree leaves with the aid of supercritical CO at 30 MPa was carried out. The impact of extraction temperature (35-90 °C) and presence of co-solvents (ethanol, water, and aqueous ethanol) on the total phenolic, flavonoid, and pigment content, as well as oleuropein, hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol, and α-tocopherol content was determined. In addition, the antioxidant activity of extracts from tree leaves using DPPH, ABTS, and CUPRAC assays was investigated.

The paper presents the application of a strain gauge sensor and a viscous brake filled with an electrorheological (ER) fluid, which is a smart material with controlled rheological properties, by an electric field to the fluid domain. For experimental tests, a cylindrical viscous brake was designed. The tests were carried out on a test stand especially prepared for this purpose and suitable for the examination of the impact of the rotational speed of the input shaft and the value of the electric voltage supplied to the viscous brake on pressing forces, taking into account the ER fluid temperature and brake fluid filling level.

Agricultural crops are exposed to various abiotic and biotic stresses that can constrain crop productivity. Focusing on a limited subset of key groups of organisms has the potential to facilitate the monitoring of the functions of human-managed ecosystems. Endophytic bacteria can enhance plant stress resistance and can help plants to cope with the negative impacts of stress factors through the induction of different mechanisms, influencing plant biochemistry and physiology.

This review provides a concise overview of up-to-date developments in the processing of neat poly(lactic acid) (PLA), improvement in its properties, and preparation of advanced materials using a green medium (CO under elevated pressure). Pressurized CO in the dense and supercritical state is a superior alternative medium to organic solvents, as it is easily available, fully recyclable, has easily tunable properties, and can be completely removed from the final material without post-processing steps. This review summarizes the state of the art on PLA drying, impregnation, foaming, and particle generation by the employment of dense and supercritical CO for the development of new materials.
