Sweet syndrome (SS), originally described as acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis, is a rare inflammatory skin condition, considered the prototype of neutrophilic dermatoses. It is characterised by the sudden onset of well-defined tender papules, plaques and nodules often accompanied by fever, neutrophilia and elevated markers of inflammation. Several variants have been described both clinically and histopathologically.

Sweet syndrome, also known as acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis, is a rare inflammatory skin condition associated with the sudden onset of high-grade fever, painful rashes usually on the upper body, leukocytosis and neutrophilia. Approximately 21% of patients with Sweet syndrome have a concurrent malignancy, 80% of which are linked to haematological diseases, especially myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid leukaemia. This is a case report of a woman in her 50s who was recently diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia and was started on decitabine 20 mg/m (40 mg).

Acute Haemorrhagic Oedema of Infancy (AHOI), also known as Acute Hemorrhagic Edema of Infancy (AHEI), is characterized by purpuric skin lesions, edema, and fever. It is classified as a form of cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis. Clinically, AHOI presents with targetoid, purplish spots on the face and limbs, accompanied by the sudden onset of peripheral edema.

Background: Delayed cerebral injury (DCI) after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a preventable injury that would improve patient outcomes if an effective treatment can be developed. The most common long-term disability in patients with SAH is cognitive dysfunction. Contrary to the common theory that damage from DCI originates solely from ischemia caused by cerebral vasospasm, inflammation has been shown to be an important independent mediator of DCI.

Chronic neutrophilic leukemia (CNL) is a very rare myeloid neoplasm characterized by peripheral blood neutrophilia and a hypercellular marrow with increased granulopoiesis. An activating mutation in CSF3R is present in 80% to 90% of cases. CNL displays some biological overlap in terms of clinical presentation and behavior, as well as genetic profile, with several other myeloid neoplasms, particularly myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasms (MDS/MPN) and other MPN.

A 68-year-old woman with obesity and ulcerative colitis history, referred to the emergency department and transferred to the ICU, with severe epigastric belt-like abdominal pain (requiring opiates) with sudden onset 10 hours after the last meal. The clinical exploration presented painful abdomen with epigastrium peritoneal irritation. Laboratory tests showed elevated amylase (2600 U/l) and lipase (1127 U/l), with leukocytosis and neutrophilia.

Acute generalised exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a rare drug-induced pustular eruption characterised by the rapid onset of superficial pinhead pustules. We discuss the case of a 27-year-old man who presented with a generalised pustular eruption on the neck, trunk and limbs. He commenced upadacitinib for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD) 6 months before developing the rash, and the dose was increased from 15 to 30 mg daily, 3 months prior.

In the frame of the I-MOVE-COVID-19 project, a cohort of 2050 patients admitted in two Spanish reference hospitals between March 2020 and December 2021 was selected and a range of clinical factor data were collected at admission to assess their impact on the risk COVID-19 severity outcomes through a multivariate adjusted analysis and nomograms. The need for ventilation and intensive care unit (ICU) admission were found to be directly associated with a higher death risk (OR 6.9 and 3.

Background And Purpose: The immune response following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) can exacerbate secondary brain injury and impact clinical outcomes. As the immune response after aSAH is a dynamic process, we aim to track and characterize immune cell trajectories over time to identify patterns associated with various clinical outcomes.
Methods: In this retrospective single-center study of patients with aSAH, we analyzed immune cell count trajectories, including neutrophil, monocyte, and lymphocyte counts, collected from day 1 to day 14.

Background: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is classified as a subtype of myeloproliferative neoplasm, and bone marrow flow cytometry does not reveal any specific immunophenotype. Interestingly, aberrant expression of cluster of differentiation (CD) markers such as CD56 and CD38 has been observed on neutrophils in CML patients. Therefore, we investigated the abnormal expression of CD56 and CD38 in CML neutrophils to explore their diagnostic value in identifying CML through flow cytometry.

Vasculitis is an autoimmune disease defined by inflammation within blood vessels, typically manifesting systemically with multi-organ complications and clinical features. Isolated vasculitis itself, however, is extremely rare and not characteristically based on the pathophysiology of the condition. Whilst there have been cases of isolated vasculitis in large-medium vessels (e.

Background: Ambient concentrations of the air pollutant, ozone, are rising with increasing global temperatures. Ozone is known to increase incidence and exacerbation of chronic lung diseases, which will increase as ambient ozone levels rise. Studies have identified diet as a variable that is able to modulate the pulmonary health effects associated with ozone exposure.

Background: Inhalation of biomass smoke is associated with adverse respiratory effects in those with chronic pulmonary conditions. There are few published data regarding the effects of anti-inflammatory interventions on these outcomes.
Objective: Our aim was to assess the effects of postexposure prednisone on woodsmoke (WS)-induced sputum neutrophilia.

Appendiceal mucocele is a rare entity first described by Carl von Rokitansky, characterized by cystic dilatation of the appendiceal lumen due to obstruction, epithelial proliferation or inflammation and accumulation of mucoid material. The cause can be either neoplastic or non-neoplastic. Patients with appendiceal mucocele can be asymptomatic or present with right lower quadrant pain which may mimic acute appendicitis.

Background: The overlapping clinical and radiographic features of pulmonary melioidosis and lung cancer present diagnostic challenges to healthcare providers in endemic settings.
Methods: We compared the clinical, laboratory and imaging characteristics of 19 pulmonary melioidosis cases with those of 15 cases of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and 17 cases of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Results: Compared with SCLC/NSCLC cases, those with pulmonary melioidosis were more likely to have diabetes, have fever, neutrophilia and leukocytosis on presentation (p<0.
