Neurological disorders are the leading cause of disability worldwide, with Parkinson's disease (PD) emerging as a rapidly growing neurological condition on a global scale. Although treatments exist to alleviate symptoms and maintain patients' quality of life, PD remains incurable. According to some recent studies, natural killer (NK) cells may play a role in clearing alpha-synuclein aggregates, which are the main component of Lewy bodies that cause neuronal degeneration in Parkinson's disease.

Fibro-osseous tumors of the craniofacial bones are a heterogeneous group of lesions comprising cemento-osseous dysplasia (COD), cemento-ossifying fibroma (COF), juvenile trabecular ossifying fibroma (JTOF), psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (PsOF), fibrous dysplasia (FD), and low-grade osteosarcoma (LGOS) with overlapping clinicopathological features. However, their clinical behavior and treatment differ significantly, underlining the need for accurate diagnosis. Molecular diagnostic markers exist for subsets of these tumors, including GNAS mutations in FD, SATB2 fusions in PsOF, mutations involving the RAS-MAPK signaling pathway in COD, and MDM2 amplification in LGOS.

Currently, the World Health Organization (WHO) grade of meningiomas is determined based on the biopsy results. Therefore, accurate non-invasive preoperative grading could significantly improve treatment planning and patient outcomes. Considering recent advances in machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL), this meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the performance of these models in predicting the WHO meningioma grade using imaging data.

Background: Headaches are more prevalent in patients with multiple sclerosis compared with the general population. However, headaches are still considered a rare symptom of multiple sclerosis, especially when they appear as an initial symptom. The occurrence of a headache as a symptom of radiologically isolated syndrome (RIS) is uncommon, and it can significantly increase the likelihood of developing multiple sclerosis.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a devastating cause of death and disability. Outcomes following TBI have been extensively studied; however, less attention has been given to identifying characteristics of individuals who have a favorable outcome following severe TBI. We conducted a retrospective analysis of a database containing information on TBI patients admitted to a level 1 trauma center between 2015 and 2021.

Background And Objectives: It remains a challenge to monitor cerebrovascular autoregulation (CA) reliably and dynamically in an intensive care unit. The objective was to build a proof-of-concept active CA model exploiting advances in representation learning and the full complexity of the arterial blood pressure (ABP) and intracranial pressure (ICP) signal and outperform the pressure reactivity index (PRx).
Methods: A porcine cranial window CA data set (n = 20) was used.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that is characterized by the formation of Lewy bodies, which are primarily composed of misfolded α-Synuclein (α-Syn). DJ-1 is a crucial protein involved in the correct folding of α-Syn, and mutations impairing its function are associated with the onset of PD. One such mutation, the L166P substitution in DJ-1, which has been linked to early-onset PD and results in the loss of DJ-1's homodimer structure.

Frontotemporal dementia with parkinsonism-17 is a neurodegenerative disease characterised by pathological aggregation of the tau protein with the formation of neurofibrillary tangles and subsequent neuronal death. The inherited form of frontotemporal dementia can be caused by mutations in several genes, including the MAPT gene on chromosome 17, which encodes the tau protein. As there are currently no medically approved treatments for frontotemporal dementia, there is an urgent need for research using in vitro cell models to understand the molecular genetic mechanisms that lead to the development of the disease, to identify targets for therapeutic intervention and to test potential drugs to prevent neuronal death.

Introduction: Traumatic spinal cord injury (tSCI) is frequently observed in polytrauma patients.
Research Question: What is the optimal strategy to manage tSCI in the setting of polytrauma?
Material And Methods: This narrative review focuses on: 1) extraspinal damage control surgery and resuscitation, 2) the perioperative protection of the injured spine during emergency surgery, 3) imaging and timing of spinal surgery in polytrauma, 4) early interventions for skin, bowel and bladder, and 5) the multidisciplinary approach to tSCI polytrauma patients.
Results: Damage control resuscitation (DCR) and damage control surgery (DCS), aim to prevent/correct post-traumatic physiological derangements to minimize bleeding until definitive hemostasis is achieved.

To compare the incremental prognostic value of pupillary reactivity captured as part of the Glasgow Coma Scale-Pupils (GCS-P) score or added as separate variable to the GCS+P, in traumatic brain injury (TBI). We analyzed patients enrolled between 2014 and 2018 in the Collaborative European NeuroTrauma Effectiveness Research in Traumatic Brain Injury (CENTER-TBI, = 3521) and the Transforming Research and Clinical Knowledge in Traumatic Brain Injury (TRACK-TBI, = 1439) cohorts. Logistic regression was utilized to quantify the prognostic performances of GCS-P (GCS minus number of unreactive pupils) and GCS+P versus GCS alone according to Nagelkerke's .

Background: Hemorrhagic stroke (HS) is associated with high risk of mortality or disability. To date, up to 25% of HSs are associated with anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents. Early hemostatic therapy and correction of effect of antithrombotic drugs in patients with HS significantly reduce the risk of adverse outcomes.

Hemangioblastoma (HAB) is a benign, richly vascularized tumor that accounts for 2-6% of all spinal cord neoplasms and ranks third in the structure of intramedullary space-occupying lesions of the spinal cord. Hemangioblastoma may occur sporadically or, in approximately 30% of cases, as part of the clinical picture of a hereditary disease, von Hippel-Lindau disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of stereotactic irradiation of hemangioblastomas of the spinal localization in patients with sporadic and von Hippel-Lindau-associated hemangioblastomas The results of stereotactic radiotherapy were evaluation of 210 spinal hemangioblastomas in 74 patients.

Unlabelled: Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) is essential in maintaining the viability, function and differentiation of neuronal cells. In addition to its function in healthy nervous tissue, GDNF is involved in pathological processes, such as glioma growth. GDNF is represented by 2 main isoforms: pre-α-pro-GDNF (αGDNF) and pre-β-pro-GDNF (βGDNF).
