Neuronal apoptosis is a common pathological change in early brain injury after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and it is closely associated with neurological deficits. According to previous research, p97 exhibits a remarkable anti-cardiomyocyte apoptosis effect. p97 is a critical molecule in the growth and development of the nervous system.

Thioredoxin-reductase 2 (Txnrd2) belongs to the thioredoxin-reductase family of selenoproteins and is a key antioxidant enzyme in mammalian cells to regulate redox homeostasis. Here, we reported that Txnrd2 exerted a major influence in brain damage caused by Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) by suppressing endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress oxidative stress and via Trx2/Prx3 pathway. Furthermore, we demonstrated that pharmacological selenium (Se) rescued the brain damage after ICH by enhancing Txnrd2 expression.

Background: Trauma to the thoracic, thoracolumbar (TL), and lumbar spine is common and can cause disability and neurological deficits. Using a cohort of patients suffering from thoracic, TL, and lumbar spine trauma in a tertiary hospital in East Africa, the current study sought to: (1) describe demographics and operative treatment patterns, (2) assess neurologic outcomes, and (3) report predictors associated with undergoing surgery, neurologic improvement, and mortality.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of patient records from September 2016 to December 2020 was conducted at a prominent East Africa referral center.

Postherpetic neuralgia is a chronic and debilitating condition that can occur following an episode of herpes zoster (shingles). It is characterized by severe, persistent pain in the area where the shingles rash occurred. While various treatment approaches exist, including medications and non-invasive therapies, some cases of postherpetic neuralgia may require neurosurgical intervention.

Background: Epilepsy is a widespread and chronic disease of the central nervous system caused by a variety of factors. Mitochondrial ferritin (FtMt) refers to ferritin located within the mitochondria that may protect neurons against oxidative stress by binding excess free iron ions in the cytoplasm. However, the potential role of FtMt in epilepsy remains unclear.

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is characterized by the temporary alleviation of motor symptoms following electrode implantation (or nucleus destruction), known as the microlesion effect (MLE). Electrophysiological studies have explored different PD stages, but understanding electrophysiological characteristics during the MLE period remains unclear. The objective was to examine the characteristics of local field potential (LFP) signals in the subthalamic nucleus (STN) during the hyperacute period following implantation (within 2 days) and 1 month post-implantation.

Objective: Despite pituitary neuroendocrine tumor (PitNET) being extra-axial tumors without direct damage to brain tissue, patients with PitNET exhibit neuropsychological impairments. However, it remains unclear whether there are neuropsychological differences between PitNET and intra-axial tumors that directly destroy the brain parenchyma. This prospective study aims to clarify this distinction to inform decision-making for intracranial tumors of diverse origins.

The coexistence of Moyamoya Syndrome with Arteriovenous Malformation is exceedingly rare. Here, we present the case of a 37-year-old female patient diagnosed with AVM in the right parietal lobe, accompanied by severe stenosis of the right middle cerebral artery and right anterior cerebral artery, along with moyamoya collateral induction. Our objective was to investigate the frequency and mutual influence of these conditions, and to determine a preferable treatment strategy by conducting a comprehensive review of previous case reports.

Background: To date, no significant clinical progress has been achieved in the treatment of brain malignant gliomas (MG), and the active search for non-invasive circulating biomarkers continues. The prognostic significance of the ratio of the main peripheral blood cell populations of patients with MG is evaluated. Considerable attention is paid to the secretome of platelets (Pt) of peripheral blood.

Background And Objectives: Lineage-based classification has critical clinical implications in pituitary neuroendocrine tumor (PitNET). As the most prevalent subtype of multilineage PitNET, PitNET originating from both pituitary-specific positive transcription factor 1 (Pit1) and steroidogenic factor-1 (SF1) lineages (Pit1/SF1-adenoma) is expected to exhibit rich and varied clinical behaviors. A comprehensive understanding of the clinical and pathological characteristics of Pit1/SF1-adenoma will provide mechanistic insight and influence the prognosis and treatment of PitNET.

Background: Bone marrow-derived endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) play a dynamic role in maintaining the structure and function of blood vessels. But how these cells maintain their growth and angiogenic capacity under bone marrow hypoxic niche is still unclear. This study aims to explore the mechanisms from a perspective of cellular metabolism.

Distinguishing between Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) presents a clinical challenge. Inexpensive and accessible techniques such as electroencephalography (EEG) are increasingly being used to address this challenge. In particular, the potential relevance between aperiodic components of EEG activity and these disorders has gained interest as our understanding evolves.

We developed a simple yet powerful technique to visualize neuronal morphology in human brain tissues. By ballistically shooting DiI (1,1'-dioctadecyl-3,3,3'3'-tetramethylindocarbocyanine perchlorate)-coated tungsten particles to randomly label neurons, then clearing tissues with OPTIClear, we demonstrated the tracing of branched dendritic trees and spines in three dimensions. High-resolution imaging revealed dendrites up to 300 μm long and spine necks down to 200 nm across.

Previous research on tissue-engineered blood vessels (TEBVs) has mainly focused on the intima or adventitia unilaterally, neglecting the equal importance of both layers. Meanwhile, the efficacy of grafts modified with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) merely has been limited. Here, we developed a small-diameter graft that can gradually release VEGF and γ secretase inhibitor IX (DAPT) to enhance tissue regeneration and remodeling in both the intima and adventitia.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage is associated with high morbidity and mortality and lacks effective treatment. Pyroptosis is a crucial mechanism underlying early brain injury after subarachnoid hemorrhage. Previous studies have confirmed that tumor necrosis factor-stimulated gene-6 (TSG-6) can exert a neuroprotective effect by suppressing oxidative stress and apoptosis.

The mechanism by which SARS-CoV-2 causes neurological post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (neuro-PASC) remains unclear. Herein, we conducted proteomic and metabolomic analyses of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples from 21 neuro-PASC patients, 45 healthy volunteers, and 26 inflammatory neurological diseases patients. Our data showed 69 differentially expressed metabolites and six differentially expressed proteins between neuro-PASC patients and healthy individuals.
