Etiologies of a thickened stalk include inflammatory, neoplastic, and idiopathic origins, and the underlying diagnosis may remain occult. We report a patient with a thickened pituitary stalk (TPS) and papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) whose diagnosis remained obscure until a skin lesion appeared. The patient presented with PTC, status postthyroidectomy, and I(131) therapy.

Context: Recent studies suggest using lower GH cut-points for the glucagon stimulation test (GST) in diagnosing adult GH deficiency (GHD), especially in obese patients. There are limited data on evaluating GH and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axes using weight-based dosing for the GST.
Objective: To define GH and cortisol cut-points to diagnose adult GHD and secondary adrenal insufficiency (SAI) using the GST, and to compare fixed-dose (FD: 1 or 1.

Meningiomas are benign brain tumors that are usually to recur. Studies have shown in vitro and in vivo that meningiomas, regardless of histology and classification, express somatostatin receptors (SSTRs). We investigated the immunohistochemical expression of five SSTR subtypes (SSTR1-SSTR5) in tumor tissue sections from 60 patients with diagnosis of meningioma who underwent surgical resection and relating it to patient age and sex, tumor histology, location, regrowth/recurrence and follow-up.

Introduction: prolactinomas are pituitary adenomas that express and secrete prolactin. These patients are overweight and the mechanisms are being studied.
Goals: assess nutritional and metabolic status of overweight patients with and without hyperprolactinemia caused by prolactinoma and compare them.

Gaining the full activity of the insulin receptor (IR) requires the proteolytic cleavage of its proform by intra-Golgi furin-like activity. In mammalian cells, IR is expressed as two isoforms (IRB and IRA) that are responsible for insulin action. However, only IRA transmits the growth-promoting and mitogenic effects of insulin-like growth factor 2.

Objective: To evaluate use of pegvisomant, a growth hormone (GH) receptor antagonist, as monotherapy in ACROSTUDY, a global safety surveillance study set in 14 countries (373 sites).
Methods: A descriptive analysis of safety, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reading, and treatment outcomes in 710 subjects who received at least 1 pegvisomant dose as monotherapy during and up to 5 years follow-up in ACROSTUDY.
Results: Subjects received a mean of 5.

Introduction: Several drugs may cause hyperprolactinemia, especially antipsychotic drugs and prokynetic drugs. Serum prolactin concentrations increase within hours after acute administration of these drugs and return to normal within two to four days after cessation of chronic therapy. So far, sibutramine, a sympathomimetic drug used in the management of obesity, was not described to be associated with altered prolactin levels.

Pituitary adenomas (PA) occasionally show aggressive behavior, with invasion of the surrounding tissues. The identification of markers able to recognize aggressive PA in early stages remains a challenge. We aimed to determine the expression of a new cell proliferation marker, Mcm2, and the presence of apoptosis in PA, and to evaluate the association of clinicopathological features with the apoptotic and proliferative indices.

Evidence suggests that sex hormones may play a role in the tumorigenesis of meningiomas, and studies have demonstrated the expression of hormone receptors in these tumors. Aromatase expression has been detected in several normal tissues, including neurons in the CNS, and tumor tissues. We aim to assess the expression of aromatase (ARO) and of progesterone receptor (PR), estrogen receptor (ER) and androgen receptor (AR) in both normal and neoplastic meningeal cells.

Background: Hyperprolactinemia (hyperPRL) has been associated with autoimmune rheumatic disorders and the presence of thyroid autoantibodies (tAb). The interrelation between these variables was the focus of this prospective study.
Methods: The study assessed six groups of individuals: 26 with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), 20 with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), 28 with tAb (tAb+), 14 with untreated hyperprolactinemia (hyperPRL), 10 with treated hyperPRL, and a control group (n = 28).
