Sialolithiasis is a common cause of salivary gland obstruction, leading to symptoms such as pain and swelling. In cases of intraparenchymal submandibular stones and proximal ductal stones larger than 7 mm, interventional sialendoscopy may fail, necessitating sialoadenectomy. As an alternative, intraoral stone extraction can be performed with CT-guided navigation.

Introduction: Artificial intelligence (AI) based chat robots are increasingly used by users for patient education about common diseases in the health field, as in every field. This study aims to evaluate and compare patient education materials on rhinosinusitis created by two frequently used chat robots, ChatGPT-4 and Google Gemini.
Method: One hundred nine questions taken from patient information websites were divided into 4 different categories: general knowledge, diagnosis, treatment, surgery and complications, then asked to chat robots.

Negative magnetophoresis is employed to levitate cells in a paramagnetic medium without the need for magnetic labeling, preserving their natural state and minimizing toxicity. The single-ring magnet configuration that provides an open space in the levitation chamber enhances culture accessibility and scalability, enabling the formation of millimeter-sized 3D structures through cellular self-assembly. This system provides a versatile and cost-effective approach for diverse applications, including tissue engineering and biofabrication.

In this chapter, we present a detailed protocol for establishing a three-dimensional (3D) multicellular tumor spheroids (MCTSs) model to simulate the tumor microenvironment (ME) associated with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) for the study of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and colorectal cancer (CRC) cell aggressiveness, growth, and metastasis potential. The MASLD microenvironment (MASLD-ME) is recreated by embedding hepatic stellate cells in a collagen I matrix within a Boyden chamber system. The metabolic medium mimics MASLD conditions, enriched with high glucose, fructose, insulin, and fatty acids, to simulate metabolic stresses associated with the disease.

Traditional methods involve the Nathanson retractor, associated with ischemia and necrosis complications. In addition, these techniques require an additional trocar with an incision that increases postoperative pain.

Anomalous origin of coronary arteries from the pulmonary artery (ACAPA) are rare but clinically significant condition with high mortality if left untreated. Even more rarely, ACAPA is associated with other congenital heart defects. From 1974 to 2024, 120 patients with anomalous coronary arteries connected to the pulmonary artery were retrospectively analyzed.

Background And Objectives: The middle fossa approaches are tremendously versatile for treating small vestibular schwannomas, selected petroclival meningiomas, midbasilar trunk aneurysms, and lesions of the petrous bone. Our aim was to localize the internal acoustic canal and safely drill the petrous apex with these approaches. This study demonstrates a new method to locate the internal acoustic canal during surgery in the middle fossa.

PRAME is a cancer testis antigen whose expression is limited in normal tissues but is increased in cancers. Although there are studies revealing its oncogenic and immunogenic role, the relationship between PRAME expression and immunity in melanomas is not very clear. We aimed to reveal the relationship between PRAME expression and clinicopathologic parameters, immunologic markers, survival in melanomas.

Background: Dystonia is a common neurological hyperkinetic movement disorder that can be caused by mutations in anoctamin 3 (ANO3, TMEM16C), a phospholipid scramblase and ion channel. We previously reported patients that were heterozygous for the ANO3 variants S651N, V561L, A599D and S651N, which cause dystonia by unknown mechanisms.
Methods: We applied electrophysiology, Ca measurements and cell biological methods to analyze the molecular mechanisms that lead to aberrant intracellular Ca signals and defective activation of K channels in patients heterozygous for the ANO3 variants.

Health-related quality of life (QOL) has gained importance due to the increasing incidence of breast cancer and the survival rate of breast cancer patients. We aimed to investigate the relationship between lymphedema, fatigue, and QOL in breast cancer survivors with axillary lymph node dissection. A total of 122 female breast cancer survivors with axillary lymph node dissection who applied to the oncology center of a teaching and research hospital between April 1, 2022, and July 1, 2022, were included in the cross-sectional study.

Osteoporosis is a common disease of the skeletal system that increases the risk of fracture. The prevalence of osteoporosis has been increasing as the aging population increases, affecting more than 200 million people worldwide. This study aimed to shed light on the clinical impact of osteoporosis on women's health and quality of life by evaluating the prevalence and risk factors for this disease among postmenopausal women, using a 10-year dataset from a tertiary center.

: A high baseline neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a poor prognostic factor in various cancers. However, its predictive role in metastatic bladder cancer (mBC) treated with immunotherapy is unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the baseline and change in NLR and overall survival in mBC patients treated with immunotherapy, with the potential to significantly impact patient care.

Although embryological studies of squamates have a long history, most groups in this large clade remain poorly studied. One such group is the family Scincidae, which consists of morphologically and ecologically diverse lizards. In this study, we describe several stages of embryonic development based on cleared and stained specimens of and .

Despite the promising potential of cell-based therapies developed using tissue engineering techniques to treat a wide range of diseases, including limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD), which leads to corneal blindness, their commercialization remains constrained. This is primarily attributable to the limited cell sources, the use of non-standardizable, unscalable, and unsustainable techniques, and the extended manufacturing processes required to produce transplantable tissue-like surrogates. Herein, we present the first demonstration of the potential of a novel approach combining collagen films (CF), hyaluronic acid (HA), human telomerase-immortalized limbal epithelial stem cells (T-LESCs), and macromolecular crowding (MMC) to develop innovative biomimetic substrates for limbal epithelial stem cells (LESCs).

Background/objectives: This study aimed to investigate the surgical treatment and management of hydrocephalus in infants with meningomyelocele and compare the single-center experience with the previous studies.
Methods: This retrospective study included 81 infants (47 females and 34 males) who underwent meningomyelocele closure surgery and subsequent ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt surgery for hydrocephalus. Clinical and demographic data were retrospectively collected from hospital records, focusing on variables such as the timing of VP shunt placement relative to MMC closure, postoperative complications, and the need for shunt revisions.

Determining causal inference has become popular in physical and engineering applications. While the problem has immense challenges, it provides a way to model the complex networks by observing the time series. In this paper, we present the optimal conditional correlation dimensional geometric information flow principle (oGeoC) that can reveal direct and indirect causal relations in a network through geometric interpretations.

Background: Volunteering is a type of support that provides high motivation and supports social participation during the active aging process without any financial reward. Volunteering services provided by an active older person not only provide free services to the community where needed but also help individuals feel valued by creating a social environment, thereby increasing their resilience. The aim of this study was to determine the views on volunteering in palliative care services among older individuals over the age of sixty who attend the Ege University of the Third Age [U3A] and outline the volunteer profile of older students after receiving palliative care training.
