Unlabelled: Chemoradiation increases the eligibility for sphincter preservation in low rectal cancer, as assessed by MRI.

Currently, patients with extremity soft tissue sarcoma (eSTS) who have undergone curative resection are followed up by a heuristic approach, not covering individual patient risks. Background: The phase 3 CAIRO3 study showed that capecitabine plus bevacizumab (CAP-B) maintenance treatment after six cycles capecitabine, oxaliplatin, and bevacizumab (CAPOX-B) in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients is effective, without compromising quality of life. In this post hoc analysis with updated follow-up and data regarding sidedness, we defined subgroups according to RAS/BRAF mutation status and mismatch repair (MMR) status, and investigated their influence on treatment efficacy.
Patients And Methods: A total of 558 patients with previously untreated mCRC and stable disease or better after six cycles CAPOX-B induction treatment were randomised to either CAP-B maintenance treatment (n = 279) or observation (n = 279).

Background: Despite the undoubted effectiveness of chemotherapeutic treatment in gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN), problems related to toxicity of chemotherapy and chemo-resistant disease have led to reconsideration of the use of hysterectomy. Aim of the present study was to evaluate indications for and outcome of hysterectomy in patients with GTN in a nation-wide cohort.
Methods: Between 1977 and 2012, we identified all patients diagnosed with GTN and treated with hysterectomy from the Dutch national databases.
This study aimed to determine protein expression levels of fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFR) 1, 2 and 3 in early stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Additionally, a screen to define the frequency of translocation and amplification was performed. Archived tissues from 653 NSCLC samples (adenocarcinoma (AC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and large cell carcinoma (LCC)) were analysed with immunohistochemistry (IHC) for expression of FGFR1, 2 and 3.

Objective: To analyze if prediction of survival for patients with synchronous metastatic renal cell cancer (mRCC) could be further refined by baseline volume of the primary tumor, the metastases, or the remaining volume after surgery; this study was performed because survival expectancies of patients with intermediate-risk mRCC vary substantially.
Material And Methods: The predictive value of the different volumes on overall survival (OS) was analyzed retrospectively in patients with intermediate Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) risk profile and ≤3 International Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Database Consortium (IMDC) factors, who received sunitinib in our institute. Tumor volumes were calculated on segmented computed tomography using in-house developed software.

Telomeres are repetitive sequences at the natural ends of linear eukaryotic chromosomes that protect these from recognition as chromosome breaks. Their ability to do so critically depends on the binding of sufficient quantities of functional shelterin, a six-unit protein complex with specific and crucial roles in telomere maintenance and function. Insufficient telomere length, leading to insufficient concentration of shelterin at chromosome ends, or otherwise crippled shelterin function, causes telomere deprotection.
