Demyelinating Charcot-Marie-Tooth 4G (CMT4G) results from a recessive mutation in the 5'UTR region of the Hexokinase 1 (HK1) gene. HK participates in mitochondrial calcium homeostasis by binding to the Voltage-Dependent Anion Channel (VDAC), through its N-terminal porin-binding domain. Our hypothesis is that CMT4G mutation results in a broken interaction between mutant HK1 and VDAC, disturbing mitochondrial calcium homeostasis.

Objective: To compare the effectiveness between the posterolateral approach and the posterolateral combined posteromedial approaches in the treatment of Mason type 2B posterior malleolar fracture.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of 79 patients with posterior ankle fracture who met the selection criteria between January 2015 and January 2022. There were 62 cases of Mason 2B Pilon subtype and 17 cases of avulsion subtype.

Background: Despite the suggestion that direct compression by granuloma and ischemia resulting from vasculitis can cause nerve fiber damage, the mechanisms underlying sarcoid neuropathy have not yet been fully clarified.
Methods: We examined the clinicopathological features of sarcoid neuropathy by focusing on electrophysiological and histopathological findings of sural nerve biopsy specimens. We included 18 patients with sarcoid neuropathy who had non-caseating epithelioid cell granuloma in their sural nerve biopsy specimens.

Familial amyloid polyneuropathy (PN), also known as amyloid transthyretin (TTR)-PN is an autosomal dominant adult-onset fatal disease, if not treated. It occurs due to mutations in (TTR) gene which leads to a faulty TTR protein which folds up to form amyloid and gets deposited mainly on nerves and causes length-dependent PN and autonomic dysfunction. We report a case of a 45-year-old female who presented with symptoms of painful peripheral neuropathy for 5 months, a history of deafness for 5 years, and cardiac pacemaker implantation 2 years ago for complete heart block.

In this article, the literature describing the origin, course, and termination of the nerves innervating the ankle joint is reviewed and discussed. The anterior aspect of the joint capsule receives innervation from articular branches from the saphenous, superficial, and deep fibular nerves; laterally from the sural and superficial fibular nerves; and medially and posteriorly from the saphenous and tibial nerves. Comprehensive mapping of the trajectory, spatial relationships, and termination of the articular branches innervating the ankle joint capsule will aid in developing new and improving existing image-guided nerve block and radiofrequency ablation protocols to treat chronic joint pain.

A 74-year-old woman with a history of asthma and allergic rhinitis rapidly developed multiple mononeuropathy. Although anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies were negative, the presence of eosinophilia and eosinophilic infiltrations in the sural nerve led to a diagnosis of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis. A motor nerve conduction study on admission revealed conduction block, which promptly disappeared after initiating immunotherapy without findings suggestive for remyelination or axonal degeneration.

Background: The sciatic nerve bifurcates into the tibial and common fibular nerves in six different regions: the pelvic region, gluteal region, proximal, middle, or distal third of the posterior thigh, or in the popliteal fossa. Inadequate knowledge of sciatic nerve anatomy could lead to failed nerve blocks, and damage during intramuscular injections. Limited studies have been done on African population groups and lack a quantifiable method to classify the levels of sciatic nerve bifurcation.

Background: Wild-type transthyretin amyloidosis (wtATTR) is an important cause of heart failure (HF); however, the prevalence and clinical significance of neurologic complications remains uncertain.
Methods: This analysis reports findings from a single-centre experience of routine neuropathy screening at the time of wtATTR diagnosis by nerve conduction studies and neurologist assessment, compared with age-matched controls.
Results: Forty-one wtATTR patients were included, 39 (95%) males, mean age 78.
Aims: A subset of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is characterized by the presence of anti-neurofascin 155 (anti-NF155) autoantibodies. In this paper, we investigated an anti-NF155 CIDP patient via clinical, electrophysiological, and neuropathological tests.

Copy number variation of the peripheral nerve myelin gene Peripheral Myelin Protein 22 (PMP22) causes multiple forms of inherited peripheral neuropathy. The duplication of a 1.4 Mb segment surrounding this gene in chromosome 17p12 (c17p12) causes the most common form of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1A, whereas the reciprocal deletion of this gene causes a separate neuropathy termed hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsies (HNPP).

Following forefoot surgery, compared to the traditional multimodal approach, regional anesthesia and analgesia provides high quality pain relief, decreases opioids consumption and leads to very high satisfaction scores. Traditional regional techniques relied either on wound infiltration, landmark technique ankle blocks or popliteal sciatic nerve block. Numerous anatomic variations of the different nerves might lead to failure following a blind technique.
