We aim to evaluate stone-free rate (SFR) and complications after flexible ureteroscopy (F-URS) for kidney stones, using a flexible and navigable suction ureteral access sheath (FANS), comparing thulium fiber laser (TFL) and high-power holmium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser (HPHL). Data from adults who underwent F-URS in 15 centers were prospectively analyzed (August 2023-January 2024). Exclusion criteria were ureteral stones, concomitant bilateral procedures, and renal abnormalities.

To compare the pulsed-Thulium: YAG(p-Tm: YAG) and Thulium Fiber(TFL) lasers in terms of efficiency and safety profiles during flexible ureteroscopy(fURS) and endocorporeal laser lithotripsy(ELL). A prospective single-center open-label comparative study included consecutive patients with ureteral and renal stones who underwent fURS using Thulio(p-Tm: YAG, Dornier©,Germany) or TFL Drive(TFL, Coloplast©,Danemark), with 270 μm and 150/200μm laser fibers(LF), respectively. fURS were performed by a single operator in each group.

Nephrolithiasis is one of the most common indications for surgery in patients with a horseshoe kidney. Robotic-assisted surgery has become a staple in urologic practice, yet its application in stone management is largely undefined. We present a patient with a horseshoe kidney, who underwent a robotic-assisted laparoscopic pyelolithotomy (RPL) to treat a 3 cm stone burden.

To compare the predictive effects of stone size and volume on the efficacy and safety of retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) and to determine the cutoff values of stone volume for prediction of RIRS efficacy and safety. Patients who underwent RIRS between 2017 and 2021 in six referral centers were retrospectively included in the study. The database of the RIRsearch group, which was formed prospectively, was used for this retrospective analysis.

Intraosseous hemangiomas are rare benign vascular tumors predominantly occurring in the axial skeleton. This case report describes a 44-year-old female with a history of multiple renal stones and benign breast calcifications, who was incidentally found to have a 1.2 cm lucent lesion in the left iliac bone during imaging for nephrolithiasis.

Objective: We aim to compare the risk of nephrolithiasis among type 2 diabetes patients who initiated sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) versus dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors (DPP4is), individually within stone never- and ever-formers.
Research Design And Methods: Using the 2010-2021 Korea National Health Insurance Service database, we conducted a population-based cohort study, comparing initiators of SGLT2is versus DPP4is. The primary outcome was incident nephrolithiasis.

The formation of polycrystalline aggregates in the glomerulus or other components of the urinary system is indisputably the most critical step in the formation of kidney stones and calcium oxalate monohydrate (CaCO·HO) is the most prevalent form. On the other hand, Annexin A1 (ANXA1), a calcium-binding protein, markedly increased on the apical surface of renal cells in CaCO-induced nephrolithiasis. In this regard, we identified the peptide motif responsible for calcium binding and redesigned it into a self-assembling peptide sequence without disturbing its binding selectivity for the CaCO interface.

Currently available animal models for calcium oxalate kidney stones are limited in their translational potential. Particularly with increasing interest in gut microbiota involvement in kidney stone disease, there are limited animal models which can be used. As such, we have developed a novel diet-induced hyperoxaluria murine model which addresses some of the shortcomings of other currently available models.

The commencement of kidney stone formation involves a crucial initial phase characterized by injury to renal tubular cells caused by calcium oxalate (CaOx). Dioscin (Dio) has been acknowledged for its potent anti-inflammation and anti-apoptotic properties; nevertheless, the impact and underlying Investigation into the molecular basis underlying the action of Dioscin in mitigating inflammation and apoptotic induced by exposure to calcium oxalate crystals in renal tissues remain unexplored. To comprehend the precise mechanism of Dioscin in the treatment of crystalline nephropathy, we conducted experiments utilizing a murine model of CaOx crystal deposition, induced by intraperitoneal administration of glyoxylate.

Nephrolithiasis imposes a significant health care burden around the world. In the past decade, there has been considerable interest in the human microbiota in relation to the onset of nephrolithiasis. Most of the research has focused on degradation of oxalate, a known causative factor for nephrolithiasis, by bacteria in the gut.

Renal infarction is a rare but potentially serious condition, often misdiagnosed due to its non-specific presentation, which mimics conditions such as nephrolithiasis and pyelonephritis. Discussed in this case report is a 68-year-old woman who presented to an emergency department with two weeks of worsening left flank pain. She was found to have a new diagnosis of atrial fibrillation (AF) on electrocardiogram (ECG) and CT findings revealing renal infarction.

Metabolic screening is a cost-effective tool for identifying patients at risk of recurrence due to a secondary disease. Our study aimed to assess compliance in a District General Hospital (DGH) and lay out a framework for the implementation of an electronic request bundle to improve screening levels in line with National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines.

Clinical studies of the urinary tract microbiome, termed urobiome, suggest a direct, antibiotic-dependent, impact of the urobiome on kidney physiology. However, evidence for kidney bacteria comes from indirect sources or infected tissue. Further, it is unclear how antibiotics impact kidney bacteria.

Objective: Parathyroidectomy (PTX) is indicated in primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) with osteoporosis or nephrolithiasis. There is not a uniform consensus on the benefit of PTX for nonspecific symptoms, but patient-reported questionnaires have demonstrated improved quality of life (QOL) afterward. This study aimed to evaluate physical activity and sleep after PTX using smartwatch technology.

Diabetes is known to increase the risk of kidney stones, but the influence of antidiabetic drugs on this risk remains uncertain. Genetic instruments for antidiabetic drugs were identified as variants, which were associated with both the expression of genes encoding target proteins of drugs and glycated hemoglobin level (HbA1c). Here, we investigated the effect of antidiabetic drugs on kidney stones in a mendelian randomization (MR) framework, and further explore the potential effect on CaOx stone rat models induced by glyoxylic acid.

Background: The global incidence of calcium oxalate (CaOx) kidney stones is rising, and effective treatments remain limited. Luteolin (Lut), a naturally flavonoid present in several plants, is recognized for its anti-inflammatory, anti-injury, and neuroprotective effects. However, its effects on CaOx kidney stone formation and the associated kidney damage are still unknown.

Purpose Of Review: To review the management of Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) with co-existing conditions affecting therapy: obesity, sulfa allergy, nephrolithiasis, and pregnancy.
Recent Findings: The IIH-WT trial showed that bariatric surgery is currently the most effective method for obese patients with IIH to lose weight, leading to normalization of CSF pressure in many cases. Allergy to sulfonamide antibiotics does not preclude the use of acetazolamide; rather, penicillin allergy or multiple drug allergies are the strongest predictor of a hypersensitivity reaction.

Introduction: To miniaturize endourological procedures, mini-Endoscopic Combined Intrarenal Surgery (mini-ECIRS) has emerged as a promising alternative in the treatment of complex kidney and ureteral stones. To date, some data available in the literature have shown good outcomes regarding effectiveness and safety. This study aimed to evaluate the results and postoperative complications of mini-ECIRS in our series.
