Background: The calcium-sensitive receptor (CaSR) has been identified as a key factor in the formation of kidney stones. A substantial body of research has illuminated the function of CaSR in stone formation with respect to oxidative stress, epithelial injury, crystal adhesion, and stone-associated proteins. Nevertheless, as a pivotal molecule in renal calcium excretion, its pathway that contributes to stone formation by regulating calcium supersaturation remains underexplored.

Introduction: Since percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) was introduced in 1976, it has been the standard procedure for large renal stones. Over time, the PCNL technique changed and developed into various techniques. We introduce single-site multipuncture supine (SMS) PCNL to give a cosmetic advantage due to less tissue injury in complex renal stones.

Simulation studies on temperature distribution in laser ablation help predict ablation rates, laser settings, and thermal damage. Despite the limited number of reported numerical studies on the temperature distribution of kidney fluid, there is no simulation study for kidney stone temperature distribution. We employ a numerical approach to study the kidney stone temperature distribution and predict ablation rates, which is an important parameter for clinical lithotripsy.

Background and aim Non-contrast computed tomography of kidneys, ureters, and bladder (CT KUB) is the gold standard radiological imaging for nephrolithiasis. It significantly contributes to the total radiation exposure of a population. This is well known to be linked to increased cancer risk over time and as such should be minimized in line with Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR{ME}R).

Kidney stones formation is a multifactorial condition and influenced, in some degree, by dietary habits. Authoritative clinical guidelines published nutritional recommendations for individuals prone to kidney stone formation. The association between dietary intake calcium to phosphorus (Ca/P) ratios and the prevalence of kidney stones is not well-established in extensive epidemiological studies.

Kidney stone disease (KSD) is a prevalent and complex condition, with an incidence of 85 cases per 100,000 individuals in Thailand. Notably, over 40% of cases are concentrated in the northeastern region, indicating a potential genetic influence, which is supported by genetic mutations reported in several families by our research group. Despite this, the genetic basis of KSD remains largely unknown for many Thai families.

This article delved into the comprehensive study by Jiang , which meticulously examined the bidirectional relationships among gallstone disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and kidney stone disease through a multicenter study, systematic review, and meta-analysis. The study provides significant evidence supporting these associations, offering valuable insights into the etiology and potential prevention strategies for these interconnected conditions. The clinical significance of these bidirectional relationships is profound, as they underscore the importance of recognizing these conditions not only as isolated diseases but as part of a complex network that can influence each other.
