Exploring the mediating roles of depression and cognitive function in the association between sarcopenia and frailty: A Cox survival analysis approach.

J Adv Res

December 2024

Department of NICU, Sichuan Academy of Medical Sciences and Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, School of Medicine, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Electronic address:

Background: Despite earlier research indicating a potential link between the development of sarcopenia and an elevated risk of frailty, the lack of comprehensive prospective data on the correlation between sarcopenia and frailty incidence leaves open the question of whether depression and cognitive function mediate this association.

Objective: The principal aim of the current investigation was to evaluate the intricate interplay among sarcopenia, depression, and cognitive function collectively influence the risk of developing frailty.

Methods: The participants included in this study were obtained from three waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), which collectively encompassed a total of 3,108 participants.

Mouse Bladder Smooth Muscle Lack the Functional Active NMDAR.

Neurourol Urodyn

November 2024

The School of Basic Medical Science, Southwest Medical University, Luzhou, Sichuan, China.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigated how N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors (NMDARs) affect bladder smooth muscle (BSM) and their potential role in treating overactive bladder conditions.
  • Various methods, including myography and RNA sequencing, were used to assess NMDAR activity and their expression in BSM cells.
  • Results showed that there are no functional NMDARs in BSM, suggesting that the benefits of NMDAR inhibition for treating overactive bladder may not directly involve BSM, indicating a need to investigate other therapeutic targets.

Transurethral catheterization in mice is multifaceted, serving essential functions such as perfusion and drug delivery, and is critical in the development of various urological animal disease models. The complex anatomy of the male mouse urethra presents significant challenges in transurethral catheterization, leading to a predominance of research focused on female specimens. This bias limits the utilization of male mice in lower urinary tract disease studies.

Department of Thyroid Surgery, The Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University, Luzhou, Sichuan, China; Basic Medicine Research Innovation Center for Cardiometabolic Diseases, Ministry of Education, Key Laboratory of Medical Electrophysiology of Ministry of Education and Medical Electrophysiological Key Laboratory of Sichuan Province, Institute of Cardiovascular Research, Southwest Medical University, Luzhou, Sichuan, China. Electronic address:

Hypothyroidism is associated with elevated levels of serum thyrotropin (TSH), which have been shown to promote abnormal proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells and contribute to the development of atherosclerosis. However, the specific mechanisms underlying the TSH-induced abnormal proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells remain unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate the role of TSH in the progression of atherosclerosis.

Lenvatinib, an FDA-approved first-line oral multi-kinase inhibitor for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (aHCC), has demonstrated promise for treatment. Nevertheless, findings from the Leap-002 study suggest that the addition of anti-vascular drugs to Lenvatinib may not yield significant improvements in survival rate. This meta-analysis aims to comprehensively assess the effectiveness of Lenvatinib, both as a standalone treatment and in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), in managing advanced aHCC patients.

Nomogram to predict liver surgery-specific complications for hepatocellular carcinoma: A multicenter study.

Eur J Surg Oncol

December 2023

Department of Liver Surgery, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, 610041, China. Electronic address:

Background: Early identification of patients at risk for surgical complications enables surgeons to make better treatment decisions and optimize resource utilization. We propose to develop a nomogram for predicting the risk of moderate-to-severe liver surgery-specific complications after hepatectomy in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients.

Methods: We retrospectively enrolled HCC patients who underwent radical hepatectomy at four medical centers from January 2014 to January 2019 in southwestern China, randomly (7:3) divided into training and validation cohorts.

Objective: To investigate the synergistic cytotoxicity of cisplatin and cytosine arabinoside (Ara-C) on nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) cell lines TW03 and cisplatin-resistant TW03/DDP which is cisplatin-induced drug-resistant cell line.

Methods: The TW03/DDP cells was established by gradually increasing the dose of cisplatin, and then examined by real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR) and semi-quantitative Western blotting for the expression level of lung resistance-related protein (LRP).
