Background: Despite earlier research indicating a potential link between the development of sarcopenia and an elevated risk of frailty, the lack of comprehensive prospective data on the correlation between sarcopenia and frailty incidence leaves open the question of whether depression and cognitive function mediate this association.

Objective: The principal aim of the current investigation was to evaluate the intricate interplay among sarcopenia, depression, and cognitive function collectively influence the risk of developing frailty.

Methods: The participants included in this study were obtained from three waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), which collectively encompassed a total of 3,108 participants.

The impact of adverse childhood experiences on depression in middle and late life: A national longitudinal study.

Background: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are one of the causes of depression in middle-aged and older adults, but the combined effects of ACEs, cognitive function and ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL) on depression have not been fully explored.

Methods: This study was based on data from 4 waves (2013, 2014, 2015 and 2018) of data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, including 10,995 middle-aged and older adults. ACEs were derived from the 2014 self-report life history module.

Hypothyroidism is associated with elevated levels of serum thyrotropin (TSH), which have been shown to promote abnormal proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells and contribute to the development of atherosclerosis. However, the specific mechanisms underlying the TSH-induced abnormal proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells remain unclear. AECOPD patients with IPA were included as case group, AECOPD patients without IPA were randomly selected as control group from the same hospitals and same hospitalization period as the patients with IPA using the random function in the software of Microsoft Excel 2003, at a ratio of 2∶1.

Treatment of Placenta Increta With High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Ablation and Leaving the Placenta : A Multicenter Comparative Study.

Objective: To explore the feasibility of simple high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation for placenta increta.

Methods: Ninety-five patients after a vaginal delivery were enrolled in this retrospective cohort study, 53 patients were treated with simple HIFU ablation, and 42 patients were treated with HIFU followed by uterine curettage.

Results: All 95 patients were successfully treated with a single-session HIFU procedure, and in the control group, the necrotic placental tissue was removed with curettage.

Phenotypic and genetic characteristics of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium.

This study was based on 43 vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREfm) strains collected from clinical specimens. Susceptibility testing and resistance gene amplification revealed that these strains had multidrug resistance and all belonged to the VanA phenotype.
