Unraveling the impact of primary immunodeficiency disorders on the microbiota of dental caries in children through 16S rRNA gene-based metagenomic analysis.

Background/aim: Dental caries is a frequently occurring and multifactorial chronic disease in children resulting from the interaction of cariogenic bacteria and host susceptibility. The aim of this study was to elucidate the impacts of primary immunodeficiency disorders (PIDs) on microbiota of dental caries in children by 16S rRNA gene-based metagenomic analysis.

Materials And Methods: Enrolled in this study were 15 children with primary PID with caries (PID group) and 15 healthy children with caries as a control (CG).

Purpose: Pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) is a key enzyme that catalyzes the irreversible and final step of glycolysis. It is closely associated with cancer development and progression. The relationship between PKM2 and prognosis in glioblastoma (GB) patients is unknown.

Effects of high-intensity laser therapy on pain, functional status, hand grip strength, and median nerve cross-sectional area by ultrasonography in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of high intensity laser therapy (HILT) on pain, functional status, hand grip strength, and median nerve cross-sectional area by ultrasonography in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. Sixty patients who were diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome were included in the study. The patients observed during the research were randomly divided into two groups with 30 patients in each group.

The Association of Dysfunctional Attitudes and Adult Separation Anxiety in Pregnancy: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background This study aims to examine adult separation anxiety in pregnant women and its relationship with dysfunctional attitudes from the perspective of cognitive theory. Methods The sociodemographic data, Adult Separation Anxiety Questionnaire (ASA-27), and Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale-Revised (DAS-R) questionnaire were utilised to examine the correlation between sociodemographic factors and the ASA and dysfunctional attitudes in women attending antenatal obstetric clinics. Results The study included 190 pregnant women.

Efficacy of Low-level Laser Versus High-intensity Laser Therapy in the Management of Adhesive Capsulitis: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Background: Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) and high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) are effective in alleviating pain and improving functionality in patients with adhesive capsulitis (AC); however, no study has compared the efficacy of these two laser treatments.

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of LLLT and HILT in improving the shoulder joint range of motion and functional status and in reducing pain level in patients with AC.

Trial Design: Prospective, randomized, parallel group, patient- and assessor-blinded.

Can Echinococcus Granulosus Infestation Prevent Pancreatic Cancer? An invivo Experimental Study.

Hydatid cyst is a zoonotic infestation caused by Echinococcus granulosus, and it is known that some parasites found in humans cause cancer in humans or some may have a protective effect against cancer. Cancer is one of the most serious health problems of today and it has been shown in some studies that parasites such as Echinococcus granulosus can have an inhibitory effect. The aim of this study was determined as whether Echinococcus granulosus has an inhibitory effect on exocrine pancreatic cancer with the help of the azaserine-rat model used in different cancer studies.

Background: Characterized by demyelination, inflammation and axonal damage, multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most common disorders of central nervous system led by the immune system. There is an urgent and obvious need for biomarkers for the diagnosis and follow-up of MS.

Trends of primary glomerular disease in Turkey: TSN-GOLD registry report.

Background: Although several renal biopsy registry reports have been published worldwide, there are no data on primary glomerular disease trends in Turkey.

Methods: Three thousand eight-hundred fifty-eight native kidney biopsy records were assessed in the Turkish Society of Nephrology Primary Glomerulopathy Working Group (TSN-GOLD) Registry. Secondary disease and transplant biopsies were not recorded in the registry.

Assessment of Quality of Life Following Radiotherapy in Patients with Rectum Cancer.

Purpose: The aim of the present study is to investigate the effects of radiotherapy (RT) on quality of life (QoL) and influencing factors.

Methods: Data of 106 patients who completely filled out the three questionnaires were evaluated in this prospective study. Quality of life was evaluated with cancer-specific QLQ-C30 and colorectal cancer module QLQ-CR29 created by European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC).

Long-Term Experience of Subcutaneous Immunoglobulin Therapy in Pediatric Primary Immunodeficient Patients with Low and Normal Body Weight.

Purpose: The aim was to review the compliance, side effects and effectiveness of subcutaneous immunoglobulin (SCIG) supplementation in patients with primary immunodeficiencies (PID) who had previously received intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy and subsequently switched to SCIG, as well as to compare these parameters in patients while considering body weight.

Methods: Demographic data, clinical and laboratory findings, SCIG dose, and side effects of 87 patients were retrospectively obtained from patient files. In patients who first received IVIG and then SCIG, the monthly SCIG dose was calculated by multiplying the IVIG dose by 1.

This study aimed to determine the effect of 3',4'-Dihydroxyflavonol (DiOHF) on lipid peroxidation, DNA damage and inflammation in ovarian ischaemia (I)-reperfusion (R) injury. This study was performed on 44 Wistar-albino female rats. Groups were designed as Control; Sham; I/R (the left ovary was ligated for 2 h and then reperfused for 2 h); I/R + DiOHF (after 2 h ischaemia and 2 h reperfusion, 30 mg/kg of DiOHF was given intraperitoneally and reperfusion was allowed for 2 h more); I + DiOHF + R (after 2 h I, 30 mg/kg of DiOHF was given at the beginning of 2 h reperfusion); DiOHF + I/R (2 h after DiOHF administration, the left ovary was ligated for 2 h and then reperfused for 2 h).

Results: Sixty-one of 72 SCID patients in the study underwent HSCT from 1997 to 2017.

Lichen Planus Due to Hirudotherapy.

Lichen planus is a traumatic (koebner positive), chronic, inflammatory and autoimmune disease affecting the oral and genital mucosa, scalp and nails. The Food and Drug Administration approved the use of medical leeches for therapeutic purposes (hirudotherapy) in 2004 to ensure flap nutrition in plastic surgery. A 34-year-old male patient was admitted to our dermatology outpatient clinic with a swollen, itchy and purple-coloured rash on legs and back for a month, and white and reticulated plaques in the mouth.

Effectiveness of kinesiotaping in pregnant women with sacroiliac joint pain: A randomised controlled study.

Aim: Sacroiliac joint (SIJ) dysfunction is an especially common cause of pain during pregnancy. Treatment options during pregnancy are very limited in order to reduce pain and increase the quality of life. We aimed to determine the efficacy of kinesiotaping (KT) in the treatment of SIJ pain in pregnant women.

The effect of bicipital groove morphology on the stability of the biceps long head tendon.

Background: Long head of biceps tendon (LHBT) instability is an important source of pain and disability for the shoulder. Supraspinatus and subscapularis tendons contribute to the formation of the biceps pulley system, which maintains biceps stability during shoulder movements. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of morphology of bicipital groove on the stability of LHBT.

Factors affecting survival in glioblastoma patients below and above 65 years of age: A retrospective observational study.

Background: The purpose of this study is to identify the differences with respect to survival and prognostic factors in a comparison between radiotherapy-receiving glioblastoma (GBM) patients above and below 65 years of age.
