Reference Center for Sickle Cell Disease, Thalassemia and Other Red Blood Cell and Erythropoiesis Diseases, Department of Internal Medicine, European Georges Pompidou University Hospital (AP-HP), European Georges Pompidou Hospital (AP-HP), Paris Cité University, F-75015 Paris, France.

Preoperative transfusion (PT) reduces acute postoperative vaso-occlusive events (VOE) in sickle cell disease (SCD), but exposes patients to alloimmunization, encouraging a recent trend towards transfusion sparing. The aim of this study was to investigate the benefit-risk ratio of PT before cholecystectomy on the occurrence of postoperative VOE. Adult SCD patients who underwent cholecystectomy between 2008 and 2019 in our center were included.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is frequent in patients resuscitated from cardiac arrest (CA) and may worsen outcome. Experimental data suggest a renoprotective effect by treating these patients with a high dose of erythropoietin (Epo) analogues. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of epoetin alpha treatment on renal outcome after CA.

Unlabelled: The most common cause of thrombocytopenia in children is immune thrombocytopenia. Nevertheless, some atypical cases should evoke the hypothesis of genetic thrombocytopenia. Indeed, in the past years, 30 new genes had been described in the field of inherited thrombocytopenia.

Background: Preliminary data suggested a clinical benefit in treating out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients with a high dose of erythropoietin (Epo) analogs.

Objectives: The authors aimed to evaluate the efficacy of epoetin alfa treatment on the outcome of OHCA patients in a phase 3 trial.

Methods: The authors performed a multicenter, single-blind, randomized controlled trial.

The MONARK study was a pilot randomized trial comparing the safety and efficacy of lopinavir-ritonavir (LPV/r) monotherapy to those of LPV/r-zidovudine-lamivudine triple therapy for antiretroviral-naïve human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1)-infected patients. Resistance testing was performed at the time of initial screening and at the time of virological failure (defined to include low-level viremia with >50 and <400 HIV-1 virus RNA copies/ml of plasma). Changes from the baseline sequences, including mutations noted on the 2008 International AIDS Society-USA list of resistance-associated protease mutations, were considered.
