Background: Most cases of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) are caused by infertility treatment using human menopausal gonadotropin (HMG) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). OHSS is widely known to have a "spoke-wheel" appearance on imaging, presenting as bilateral symmetric enlargement of ovaries with multiple cysts of varying sizes. When this spoke-wheel appearance is observed in patients not undergoing infertility treatment, tumor-derived hormones such as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and hCG should be measured.

Background: To spare important anatomical structures from damage during treatment of cystic odontogenic lesions, decompression has become a conservative alternative to enucleation. Marsupialization, in combination with the use of a custom-made decompression prosthesis, is an effective method of inducing reduction and bony infill of cystic lesions of the jaw.

Methods: In this case series and review of the literature, we describe three patients with odontogenic cysts of the mandible who were treated with custom-made decompression obturator prostheses (DOP) at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Dental Service.

Service ORL-CCF, CHU de Grenoble-Alpes (CHUGA), Grenoble, France; Secteur santé, université Grenoble-Alpes (UGA), Grenoble, France.

Research and knowledge in human embryology greatly progressed during the second half of the 19th century. This allowed optimization of surgical treatment of branchial deformities and cervical cysts in the light of their embryological development. In 1920, Walter Ellis Sistrunk described an embryologically-based technique for resection of thyroglossal duct fistulae and cysts.

A 67-year-old male presented with plaques around the orbit and ecchymosis on the neck and back of hands for 2 years. Physical examination showed seborrheic-keratosis-like plaques around the orbit, ecchymosis on the neck and back of hands, as well as nail dystrophy. Serum λ light chain was positive.

The presence of cystic lymph nodes in the neck can present a challenging differential diagnosis, with considerations often including metastatic papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), cystic squamous cell carcinoma, and congenital cysts. The cytologic overlap between benign Müllerian inclusions and PTC features adds complexity, especially in unusual locations. A 45-year-old woman with a history of ovarian serous borderline tumor (SBT) and non-invasive Müllerian implants presented with cystic lymphadenopathy in the neck.

State Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases, National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases, Department of Orthodontics, West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Electronic address:

This retrospective study aimed to comprehensively investigate the impact of non-surgical treatments on condylar osseous changes in adult patients with degenerative joint disease (DJD). Radiographic and clinical data were collected for analysis. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) was used to diagnose DJD, including flattening, erosion, osteophytes, sclerosis and cysts.

Introduction And Significance: Thymic cysts are rare, located in the middle mediastinum, and are often asymptomatic and discovered incidentally. When they are symptomatic, the symptoms are often due to the effect of the mass, and complete surgical excision is preferred to avoid the risk of complications following their persistence.

Case Presentation: We present a case of a patient who had recurrent dyspnea and was later diagnosed with a cystic formation in the middle mediastinum by radiological investigations and successfully treated through a neck incision and completely resected.

Article Synopsis
  • * After surgery, the cyst came back aggressively, prompting further intervention.
  • * The recurrence was effectively treated using percutaneous doxycycline sclerotherapy, which is considered a low-risk option for such cases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the clinical and surgical management of aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) in the temporal bone, analyzing six case studies treated between 2017 and 2024 at a tertiary care institution.
  • Key findings indicate that the average patient age was 27.5 years, with symptoms like scalp swelling and hearing impairment, and successful surgeries resulted in no recurrences during a follow-up period.
  • The research concludes that complete surgical removal is the best treatment for temporal bone ABCs, stressing the importance of the tumor's stage and the extent of resection in determining patient outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Neck masses, especially branchial cysts, are common and usually benign, but this case report describes a rare instance of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) mimicking a branchial cyst in a young woman.
  • A 35-year-old woman had a slow-growing neck mass that was initially thought to be a branchial cyst but was ultimately diagnosed as metastatic PTC after further evaluation.
  • The case emphasizes the need for careful examination and pathological assessment of neck masses, as they can sometimes indicate underlying malignancies.

First Report of the cyst nematode parasitizing bamboo () in Georgia, USA.

Plant Dis

November 2024

University of Georgia, Plant Pathology, 2350 College Station Road, Athens, Georgia, United States, 30602;

Article Synopsis
  • Soil and root samples were taken from bamboo plots in Georgia over three years to monitor plant-parasitic nematodes; discoloration and stunted growth were observed in roots despite no visible symptoms aboveground.
  • Cyst nematodes (Heterodera spp.) were detected with varying population densities across the years, confirming their presence through the transplantation of healthy bamboo into infested soil, which resulted in young cysts forming in the roots after three months.
  • Detailed morphological and molecular analyses identified the nematode species, providing specific measurements and descriptions of the second-stage juveniles and cysts, indicating their characteristics such as body shape, size, and coloration.

High-resolution ultrasound of thyroglossal cysts with special emphasis on the detection of cystic portions above the hyoid within the tongue base.

Ultrasound

April 2024

Department of ENT, Head and Neck Surgery and Plastic Surgery, Klinikum Bad Salzungen, Bad Salzungen, Germany.

Article Synopsis
  • Thyroglossal duct cysts (TGDCs) at the tongue base can be difficult to manage surgically and may result in recurrence; this study examines the effectiveness of high-resolution ultrasound in their diagnosis compared to surgical findings.
  • The research included 50 patients, using ultrasound to identify the presence of thyroid tissue within TGDCs, finding that histological analysis revealed thyroid tissue in nearly half of those who underwent surgery.
  • Results indicated that ultrasound is a reliable and safe imaging method, aiding in surgical planning, and allowed for preoperative detection of thyroid tissue, which can inform potential cancer concerns.
