Article Synopsis
  • Simnotrelvir (S/R) has shown strong antiviral effects against SARS-CoV-2 and, in a recent study, effectively reduced hospitalization rates for COVID-19 in patients during XBB variant surges.
  • The study was conducted in China with 3522 adult participants diagnosed with mild to moderate COVID-19, comparing those treated with S/R to a control group not receiving antivirals.
  • Results indicated that S/R significantly lowered the incidence of COVID-19-related hospitalizations and did not result in any deaths, especially benefiting older patients and those with existing health risks.

Article Synopsis
  • Microsatellite instability (MSI) is linked to various cancers, and Werner syndrome ATP-dependent helicase (WRN) is a promising treatment target, particularly for colorectal cancer with high MSI levels.
  • The study utilized computer-assisted drug discovery methods to screen over 30,000 natural products, identifying several potential WRN inhibitors based on docking and binding efficiency calculations.
  • Molecular dynamics simulations showed these natural products bind more effectively than ATP and could inhibit the WRN dynamic process, highlighting their potential as competitive inhibitors for cancer treatment.

Introduction: Feature selection in the face of high-dimensional data can reduce overfitting and learning time, and at the same time improve the accuracy and efficiency of the system. Since there are many irrelevant and redundant features in breast cancer diagnosis, removing such features leads to more accurate prediction and reduced decision time when dealing with large-scale data. Meanwhile, ensemble classifiers are powerful techniques to improve the prediction performance of classification models, where several individual classifier models are combined to achieve higher accuracy.

Background: The clinicopathological features and endoscopic characteristics under magnifying endoscopy with narrow band imaging (ME-NBI) between early-stage gastric-type differentiated adenocarcinoma (GDA) and intestinal-type differentiated adenocarcinoma (IDA) remain controversial.

Methods: Early gastric adenocarcinomas that underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital between August 2017 and August 2021 were included in the present study. GDA cases and IDA cases were selected based on morphology and immunohistochemistry staining of CD10, MUC2, MUC5AC, and MUC6.

Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is a progressive and fatal interstitial lung disease with limited therapeutic options at present, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is recognized as a major cause of lung fibrosis. Our previous work has confirmed that total extract of Anemarrhena asphodeloides Bunge [Asparagaceae] exerted the effect of anti-PF. As a main constituent of Anemarrhena asphodeloides Bunge [Asparagaceae], the effect of timosaponin BII (TS BII) on drug-induced EMT process in PF animals and alveolar epithelial cells remains unknown.

Infantile pustular psoriasis (IPP) is an extremely rare skin disease associated with genetic factors. Gene mutations of IL36RN (interleukin-36 receptor antagonist), CARD14 (caspase recruitment family member 14), and AP1S1 (the σ1C subunit of the adaptor protein complex 1) had been identified to be involved in the pathogenesis of IPP. IPP usually develops with no preceding psoriasis vulgaris (PV) or familial history.

Purpose: To investigate the influence of circular ribonucleic acid thrombospondin-1 (circTHBS1) on the proliferation and apoptosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells by sponging miR-129-5p and regulating the expression of SRY-box transcription factor 4 (SOX4).

Methods: Carcinoma and para-carcinoma specimens were collected from 40 NSCLC patients, and 25 pairs of specimens were obtained from patients with metastatic and non-metastatic NSCLC. After NSCLC cells were cultured, the proliferation was detected via cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) and 5-Ethynyl-2'- deoxyuridine (EdU) assays, and the cell cycle and apoptosis rate were analyzed through flow cytometry.
