Background: Intraosseous (IO) infusion is a life-preserving technique when intravenous access is unobtainable. Successful IO infusion requires sufficiently high flow rates to preserve life but at low enough pressures to avoid complications. However, IO catheter tips are often misplaced, and the relative flow rates and pressures between IO catheter tips placed in medullary, trabecular, and cortical bone are not well described, which has important implications for clinical practice.

Background: Over the past decade, the use of technology-enhanced simulation in emergency medicine (EM) education has grown, yet we still lack a clear understanding of its effectiveness. This systematic review aims to identify and synthesize studies evaluating the comparative effectiveness of technology-enhanced simulation in EM.

Methods: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, ERIC, Web of Science, and Scopus to identify EM simulation research that compares technology-enhanced simulation with other instructional modalities.

Background: Postamputation phantom pain is notoriously persistent with few validated treatments. Cryoneurolysis involves the application of low temperatures to reversibly ablate peripheral nerves. The authors tested the hypothesis that a single cryoneurolysis treatment would decrease phantom pain 4 months later.

Stress urinary incontinence following radical prostatectomy can have a significant impact on a man's quality of life. Male slings offer a perceived minimally invasive treatment option and do not require the manual dexterity necessary to operate an artificial urinary sphincter. The epilepsy surgery database from 1984 to 2012 at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was reviewed to determine the association of postoperative electroencephalography (EEG) with seizure recurrence. Eighty-three patients were analyzed, with 41 having at least 5 years of follow-up. The relationship between epileptiform postoperative EEG findings and seizure recurrence at 1, 2, and 5 years was not significant, despite a significant decrease in abnormal EEG recordings after surgery.

Central nervous system (CNS) tuberculosis should be considered in patients from endemic nations with worsening neurological symptoms. If imaging reveals possible CNS tuberculomas, potentially life-threatening lesions should be excised and analyzed. When disease is less severe, other tissues possibly infected should be biopsied first for diagnosis to avoid neurosurgery.

Objective: Social media has been gaining traction among learners and educators for its ability to stimulate discussion, increase participation, and promote knowledge sharing. Despite the growing research around the benefits of social media in education, there is little evidence on how it is being incorporated into emergency ultrasound (EUS) fellowships. This study aims to determine the preference and use of social media by engaging with program directors across EUS programs in the United States to assess the current landscape of and attitudes toward social media use.
