Objectives: Present a clinically challenging case of an immunocompetent 74-year-old male who presented with marked dyspnea and hemoptysis. After the airway was secured, direct laryngoscopy revealed a large, fungating, hemorrhagic mass of the left lateral pharyngeal wall and surrounding structures.
Methods: Chart review of a single patient.

Masses in the colon can range from benign to malignant etiologies, with adenocarcinoma being the most common malignancy. Although the most frequently encountered hematologic malignancy in the military population, lymphoma is uncommonly identified during colonoscopy. We present a rare case of an active duty service member with abdominal pain and a large mesenteric mass with extension into the cecum that was a high-grade B-cell lymphoma diagnosed through endoscopy.

Prescription opioids remain an important driver of the opioid crisis in the United States. The purpose of this study was to examine recent changes in opioid prescribing patterns in the Military Health System (MHS) which is a nationwide health system service active duty military personnel and civilian beneficiaries. All patients prescribed opioid analgesics by MHS providers and filled at MHS pharmacies between 2014 and 2018 were identified.

Congenital Methemoglobinemia is a rare neurologic condition which can mimic other diseases such as epilepsy syndromes and leukodystrophies. The responsible gene, , is not typically included on commonly order neurologic and epilepsy panels. We recommend that laboratories include this gene on these tests which often precede larger-scale genetic studies.
