Although pure Ti is nontoxic, alloying elements may be released into the surrounding tissue when Ti alloys are used, and this can cause cytotoxicity. Therefore, this study performed the damage evaluation of hydroxyapatite (HAp)-coated porous Ti components subjected to cyclic compression in a simulated body fluid (SBF). The HAp coating layer was deposited on the surface of porous Ti by electrophoresis, and a dense and homogeneous coating morphology was observed on the surface of the porous Ti.

The effects of the sintering temperature on microstructures, electrical properties, and dielectric response of 1%Cr/Ta co-doped TiO (CrTTO) ceramics prepared using a solid-state reaction method were studied. The mean grain size increased with an increasing sintering temperature range of 1300-1500 °C. The dielectric permittivity of CrTTO ceramics sintered at 1300 °C was very low (ε' ∼198).

This research assessed the economic feasibility of recovering polyol from rigid polyurethane foam (RPUF) waste, collected from dismantled, discarded refrigerators, by a single-phase glycolysis recycling process using domestic crude glycerol (a byproduct of biodiesel production) as a transesterification agent. The study, conducted in Thailand, took into account benefits from the added value of the recovered product, the investment and related operating costs of the process, demand (the need for the recovered product) and supply (the amount of RPUF waste). The results showed that the production of recovered polyol from RPUF waste is economically feasible, with a net present value of 1,113,018 USD, an internal rate of return (IRR) of 22.

Background: Porous polyethylene has been successfully used in several medical applications with good outcomes. Based on this, a new bilayer porous polyethylene membrane (B-PPM) was developed for possibly being used as a membrane in alveolar ridge preservation.
Purpose: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of a new B-PPM in comparison to high-density polytetrafluoroethylene membrane (d-PTFE) in alveolar ridge preservation.

Physical characteristics and quantitative elemental composition of PM and residual ash produced from sugarcane leaves (SCL) combustion were investigated using TEM-EDS compared with forest leaves (FRL). SEM-EDS was used to analyze the microstructure and chemical composition of biomass raw leaves and PM. XRD analysis was also performed to investigate the characterization of the crystalline nanostructure, structure of PM, and residual ash compared to the TEM image processing method.

The effects of zinc and sodium hydroxide concentrations in an alkaline non-cyanide zinc bath on the electrodeposition characteristics of zinc deposits are systematically investigated. Using microstructural and phase analyses of specimens with specifically designed geometries, the study indicates that the bath formulations critically control the electrogalvanizing characteristics and affect the coating surface morphology, deposition rate, throwing power, coating uniformity, and residual stresses developed during and after electrogalvanizing. The coatings produced from baths with a moderate Zn-to-NaOH ratio of 0.

Sb2O3-loaded NaWO4-doped WO3 nanorods were fabricated with varying Sb contents from 0 to 2 wt% by precipitation/impregnation methods and their p-type acetylene (C2H2) gas-sensing mechanisms were rigorously analyzed. Material characterization by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning transmission electron microscopy and nitrogen adsorption indicated the construction of short NaWO4-doped monoclinic WO3 nanorods loaded with very fine Sb2O3 nanoparticles. The sensors were fabricated by powder pasting and spin coating and their gas-sensing characteristics were evaluated towards 0.

Objective: After a neurosurgical procedure, dural closure is commonly needed to prevent cerebrospinal fluids (CSF) leakage and to reduce the risk of complications, including infections and chronic inflammatory reactions. Although several dural substitutes have been developed, their manufacturing processes are complicated and costly and that many of them have been implicated in causing postoperative complications. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of new bilayer ORC/PCL composites in a rabbit model.

Ideally, alloplastic dural substitute should have functional properties resembling human dura mater and retain a watertight closure to prevent cerebrospinal leakage. Therefore, functional properties for successful dural closure application of newly developed bilayer oxidized regenerated cellulose knitted fabric/poly ε-caprolactone knitted fabric-reinforced composites were studied and compared with human cadaveric dura mater and three commercial dural substitutes including two collagen matrices and one synthetic poly-L-lactide patch. It was found that oxidized regenerated cellulose knitted fabric/poly ε-caprolactone knitted fabric-reinforced composites uniquely contained a bilayer structure consisting of micropores distributed within the relatively dense microstructure.

Most of the previous studies about nose prediction were concentrated only some landmarks of the nose. This study aimed to generate prediction equations for ten landmarks of the nose in the midline and alar regions for forensic facial approximation. The six midline landmarks were the sellion, nasion-pronasale posterior, nasion-pronasale anterior, pronasale, nasal drop, and subnasale.

Biodegradable poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) has been increasingly investigated as a promising scaffolding material for articular cartilage tissue repair. However, its use can be limited due to its surface hydrophobicity and topography. In this study, 3D porous PCL scaffolds fabricated by a fused deposition modeling (FDM) machine were enzymatically hydrolyzed using two different biocatalysts, namely Novozyme®435 and Amano lipase PS, at varied treatment conditions in a pH 8.

Purpose: To evaluate the influence of cyclic loading on phase transformation of zirconia abutments and to compare the effectiveness of three different quantitative ageing assessment techniques.
Materials And Methods: Thirty two Y-TZP prostheses fabricated from two brands, InCoris ZI and Ceramill ZI, were cemented to titanium bases and equally divided into two subgroups (n=8): control group without any treatment and aged group with cyclic loading between 20 N and 98 N for 100,000 cycles at 4 Hz in distilled water at 37℃. The tetragonal-to-monoclinic phase transformation was assessed by (i) conventional x-ray diffraction (XRD), (ii) micro x-ray diffraction (µXRD), and (iii) micro-Raman spectroscopy.

Polycaprolactone (PCL), a hydrophobic-degradable polyester, has been widely investigated and extensively developed, to increase the biocompatibility for tissue engineering. This research was the first trial to evaluate the intrinsic biological responses of human Wharton's Jelly Mesenchymal Stem Cells (hWJMSCs) cultured on alkaline hydrolysis and low-pressure oxygen plasma modified 2D and 3D PCL scaffolds, without adding any differentiation inducers; this has not been reported before. Four types of the substrate were newly established: 2D plasma-treated PCL (2D-TP), 2D non-plasma-treated PCL (2D-NP), 3D plasma-treated PCL (3D-TP), and 3D non-plasma-treated PCL (3D-NP).
