During videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS), barium sulfate (BaSO ) is commonly added into food samples as a radiopaque contrast media for bolus visualization and examination. Accordingly, the consistency and flow behavior of barium stimuli can differ significantly from their non-barium counterparts. Such differences may have a subsequent impact on the validity of VFSS.

During the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic period, rapid screening of covid-19 patients has been of great interest by developing a fluorescent sensor for complexation with nonanal, which is a marker for Covid-19 detection in sweat. Solid phase micro-extraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPME GC-MS) was initially used to quantify nonanal in armpit sweat samples based on an external calibration curve. A sample containing a nonanal content above the threshold of 1.

This study presents the development of composite hydrogels, comprising a biodegradable polymer (carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS or CM)) and a mixture of plasma-treated mesoporous silica nanoparticles (PMCM-41 or PM) and amine-functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles (NMCM-41 or NM), coloaded with a hydrophilic antibiotic (clindamycin hydrochloride (CDM or C)) and a poorly water-soluble compound (geranylgeraniol (GGOH or G)) for prevention of bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ). The CG-loaded hydrogel stabilities were better maintained when CDM-preloaded PMCM-41 and NMCM-41 were initially used and governed by weight ratios of CDM-loaded PMCM-41 to NMCM-41 and CDM quantity utilized. 5PM240C-1NM-CM demonstrated the best CDM-loaded hydrogel for GGOH postloading.

Department of Sustainable Development Technology, Faculty of Science and Technology, Thammasat University, 12120, Thailand. Electronic address:

The act of balancing between water demand and water supply in Phuket Island is facing challenges, suggesting water reuse options in various activities on the island should be properly promoted considering the potential benefits in a variety of dimensions. This research presented options to reuse effluent water from wastewater treatment plants for Phuket Municipality in 3 main activity groups, namely, domestic reuse, agricultural reuse, and raw water for water treatment plants (WTP). Water demand, additional water treatment trains, and the length of the major water distribution pipeline for each water reuse option were designed, and its cost and expenses were calculated.

Sizing down and functionalizing polylactide (PLA) resin for synthesis of PLA-based polyurethanes for use in biomedical applications.

Sci Rep

February 2023

School of Integrated Science and Innovation, Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT), Thammasat University, Pathum Thani, 12121, Thailand.

Alcoholysis is a promising approach for upcycling postconsumer polylactide (PLA) products into valuable constituents. In addition, an alcohol-acidolysis of PLA by multifunctional 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid (DMPA) produces lactate oligomers with hydroxyl and carboxylic acid terminals. In this work, a process for sizing down commercial PLA resin to optimum medium-sized lactate oligomers is developed at a lower cost than a bottom-up synthesis from its monomer.

Graduate Program in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, Salaya, Phuttamonthon, Nakhon Pathom 73170, Thailand.

Contamination of antibiotics in water is a major cause of antibiotic resistance (ABR) in pathogens that endangers human health and food security worldwide. Ciprofloxacin (CIP) is a synthetic fluoroquinolone (FQ) antibiotic and is reportedly present in surface water at a concentration exceeding the ecotoxicological predicted no-effect concentration in some areas. This study fabricated a CIP sensor using an electropolymerized molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) of polyaniline (PANI) and poly(-phenylenediamine) (-PDA) with CIP recognition sites.

Technical lignin can be mainly obtained as a waste by-product from pulp industry, and it exhibits unique properties including ultraviolet adsorption, biodegradable, antibacterial, and antioxidant which can be utilized for bioplastic applications. However, common limitations of technical lignin for plastic applications are compatibility mainly due to poor interfacial adhesion, relatively large particle size and impurity. In this study lignin nanoparticles from softwood (S-LNPs) were successfully produced through a continuous-green-scalable antisolvent precipitation and the suitability of S-LNPs for fabrication of bio-composite polybutylene succinate (PBS) films using conventional blown film extrusion was examined.

Wastewater reclamation trends in Thailand.

Water Sci Technol

December 2022

Department of Sustainable Development Technology, Faculty of Science and Technology, Thammasat University, Pathumthani 12120, Thailand E-mail:

Thailand constantly faces the problem of water scarcity, resulting from an imbalance between available water supply and increasing water demand for economic and community expansion, as well as climate change. To address this shortage, wastewater reclamation is being planned and implemented throughout the country, along with a 20-year, long-term integrated water resource management plan. Significant opportunities from municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are dependent on the following factors: the establishment of a reuse water framework and a tangible target for treated wastewater set by local government authorities; widespread recognition and adaptation of wastewater reuse measures in the agriculture, industry, tourism and service sectors regarding climate change and water stress; and the implementation of joint investment water reuse projects between private and government agencies.
