The toughness and the durability under a high humidity condition of the interfaces in dissimilar adhesive joints of carbon-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic with a polyamide-6 matrix and Al alloy were evaluated by two test methods, in which a tensile opening load was applied to the specimens to cleave the interfaces apart in two different ways. In the double cantilever beam (DCB) test, the specimens were continuously pulled apart at a constant velocity, while in the wedge test, the specimens are pulled apart at a constant displacement. The crack growth along the interface in the DCB test was dynamically monitored with the assistance of mechanoluminescence for the accurate detection of the phenomena at the crack tip.

We performed comprehensive glycome analysis of a large set of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) using a high-density lectin microarray. The distributions and chemical forms of sulfur compounds in the skeleton of Japanese pink coral (Corallium elatius) were investigated using X-ray spectroscopic techniques combined with micro-focused soft X-ray radiation. Microscopic X-ray fluorescence/soft X-ray photoabsorption (μ-XRF/XAS) speciation mapping clarified that sulfate is the primary species in the coral skeleton, with minor amounts of organic sulfur, whereas both sulfate and organic sulfur coexist in coenenchyme. Analysis of the post-edge region of the XAS spectra confirmed that sulfate ions in the coral skeleton are mainly in the form of gypsum-like inorganic sulfate substituting for the carbonate ions in the calcite skeleton.

Recent studies have shown that various semi- and non-volatile organohalogen compounds are ubiquitous in the environment: these include halogenated dioxins including chlorinated dioxins, other persistent organic pollutants (POPs), brominated flame retardants (BFRs), and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS). However, monitoring and assessment of these compounds by the analyses of individual compounds and their isomers is onerous because of their low environmental concentrations and large number of compounds.
