Background: Traumatic aniridia has been documented in eyes with a history of cataract extraction through a clear corneal wound. The proposed hypothesis is that the iris tissue was squeezed out from the corneal wound as it is a relative weak point. However, traumatic aniridia with extensive pigmentation of the episclera has never been reported.

Topical ocular drug was applied for post-operative infection prevention, but the way of delivery encounters many challenges in terms of patient's compliance, drug efficacy, and drug penetration. We used the levofloxacin-loaded chitosan/gelatin/β-glycerophosphate hydrogel sustained releasing system with good anti-bacterial efficacy and biocompatibility, which we had previously designed, for keratitis model to test the preclinical drug efficacy and to determine drug level in the anterior chamber of the eye.

Background: The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of induction chemotherapy (ICT), GOFL (gemcitabine, oxaliplatin plus fluorouracil (5-FU)/leucovorin) versus modified FOLFIRINOX (irinotecan, oxaliplatin plus 5-FU/leucovorin), followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) in locally advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma (LAPC).
Methods: Chemo-naive patients with measurable LAPC were eligible and randomly assigned to receive biweekly ICT with either mFOLFIRINOX or GOFL for 3 months. Patients without systemic progression would have 5-FU- or gemcitabine-based CCRT (5040 cGy/28 fractions) and were then subjected to surgery or continuation of chemotherapy until treatment failure.

Objective: Stromal barriers, such as the abundant desmoplastic stroma that is characteristic of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), can block the delivery and decrease the tumour-penetrating ability of therapeutics such as tumour necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL), which can selectively induce cancer cell apoptosis. This study aimed to develop a TRAIL-based nanotherapy that not only eliminated the extracellular matrix barrier to increase TRAIL delivery into tumours but also blocked antiapoptotic mechanisms to overcome TRAIL resistance in PDAC.
Design: Nitric oxide (NO) plays a role in preventing tissue desmoplasia and could thus be delivered to disrupt the stromal barrier and improve TRAIL delivery in PDAC.

About 4% of the population in Taiwan are seropositive for anti-HCV Ab and 70% with HCV RNA. To address this high chronic hepatitis C disease load, Taiwan National Health Insurance started reimbursing genotype-specific DAAs in 2017 and pangenotype DAAs in mid-2018. With a 97% SVR12 rate, there were still 2-3% of patients that failed to clear HCV.

Background: Right ventricular outflow tract obstruction relief is one of the major procedures during the total correction of tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). Pulmonary insufficiency (PI) is usually inevitable after a transannular incision with a patch repair is performed. Therefore, some surgeons advocate to place a monocusp valve within the transannular patch (TAP) in order to decrease the severity of the PI.
