Aim: There remain limited therapies to treat thyroid eye disease (TED) orbital fibrosis, highlighting the urgency to develop novel targets. Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1)-induced myofibroblast transdifferentiation from orbital fibroblasts are important pathogenetic factor of TED. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress may play a role in TED pathogenesis since it has been linked to liver, kidney, heart and lung fibrotic remodelling.

While family, peer and social groups serve as significant reference groups influencing adolescents' decision-making process, there remains a paucity of research that examines how diversified reference groups influence their smoking decisions.
Objective: The objective is to compare normative and informative influences given by different reference groups on adolescents' smoking decision-making.

Conditions were determined for rapid, convenient, and efficient determination of 16 common mycotoxins in tea samples. Mycotoxins in tea leaves and tea infusion samples were extracted using solid-liquid extraction/liquid-liquid extraction combined with ultrasonic-assisted extraction. The extraction solvent was 2-butanone/ethyl acetate (9/1 v/v) with 0.

Cone-beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is widely used in dental imaging, small animal imaging, radiotherapy, and non-destructive industrial inspection. The quality of CBCT images depends on the precise knowledge of the CBCT system's alignment. We introduce a distinct procedure, "precision alignment loop (PAL)", to calibrate any CBCT system with a circular trajectory.

Background: Infarct growth on multimodal imaging is a common lead outcome in phase 2 proof-of-concept and dose-optimization neuroprotective agent stroke trials. However, the effect size in infarct growth reduction that correlates with clinically meaningful differences in clinical global disability outcomes has not been well delineated.
Methods: A systematic literature search identified all endovascular thrombectomy randomized trials reporting magnitude of treatment effect on both infarct growth reduction and increase in functional independence (modified Rankin Scale (mRS) 0-2).

Cardiac transplant recipients face many complications due to transplant rejection. Scientists must conduct animal experiments to study disease onset mechanisms and develop countermeasures. Therefore, many animal models have been developed for research topics including immunopathology of graft rejection, immunosuppressive therapies, anastomotic techniques, and graft preservation techniques.

We found that GroEL in Porphyromonas gingivalis accelerated tumor growth and increased mortality in tumor-bearing mice; GroEL promoted proangiogenic function, which may be the reason for promoting tumor growth. To understand the regulatory mechanisms by which GroEL increases the proangiogenic function of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), we explored in this study. In EPCs, MTT assay, wound-healing assay, and tube formation assay were performed to analyze its activity.

Therefore, surfaces that can prevent coronavirus contamination are an urgent and unmet need during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Conventional surfaces are usually based on superhydrophobic or antiviral coatings.

Introduction: This study aims to develop and validate an integrative intrinsic capacity (IC) scoring system, to investigate its associations with a wide spectrum of biomarkers and to explore the predictive value of the integrative IC score on 4-year mortality among community dwelling people aged 50 years and older.
Methods: We included 839 adults aged ≥50 years from the Social Environment and Biomarkers of Aging Study (SEBAS) and randomly divided them into derivation and validation cohorts to develop the IC scoring system. The multivariate logistic regression model was used to weight each subdomain (locomotion, sensory, vitality, psychological, and cognition) of IC according to its association with impairments in instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) and to construct the integrative IC score.

The optimal conditions for QuEChERS (quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged and safe) with superior performance were established to rapidly extract 21 heterocyclic amines (HAs) from 9 categories of food matrices including meat and poultry, eggs, soy beans and products, composite foods, fish and seafood, grains, beer, dairy foods, and coffee. The QuEChERS conditions and the developed ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analysis conditions were then applied to the determination of HAs in popular food products sold in the Taiwan market. The conditions comply with the food chemical analysis specifications of Taiwan Food and Drug Administration.

A method using UPLC-MS/MS and a core-shell C18 column was developed to simultaneously determine 21 heterocyclic amines (HAs) in 15 min. Appropriate QuEChERS conditions were also established to conveniently extract HAs from soy products cooked with various methods. These conditions presented good analytical performance; limit of detection, limit of quantification, recovery (%), repeatability (coefficient of variation (CV) %) and intermediate precision (CV%) were 0.

In this era of unprecedented longevity, healthy aging is an important public health priority. Avoiding or shortening the period of disability or dementia before death is critical to achieving the defining objectives of healthy aging, namely to develop and maintain functional capabilities that enable wellbeing in older age. The first step is to identify people who are at risk and then to implement effective primary interventions.

Aging is a dynamic complex process involving social vulnerability over time. The social vulnerability index (SVI) was developed that predicted adverse health outcomes. This study examined effects between SVI status and two genotypes, apolipoprotein E (ApoE) and Serotonin transporter genotyping (5-HTTLPR), on all-cause mortality.
