In the past two decades, competency-based medical education (CBME) has rapidly become the cornerstone of medical training and accreditation programmes worldwide. It has increasingly replaced traditional time-based educational approaches which were often rigid, fragmented, and overly emphasized clinical content knowledge over practical skillsets and attitudes. p53 tumor suppressor maintains genomic stability, typically acting through cell-cycle arrest, senescence, and apoptosis. We discovered a function of p53 in preventing conflicts between transcription and replication, independent of its canonical roles. p53 deficiency sensitizes cells to Topoisomerase (Topo) II inhibitors, resulting in DNA damage arising spontaneously during replication.

Condensed-bicyclic triazolo-thiadiazoles were synthesized via an efficient "green" catalyst strategy and identified as effective inhibitors of PTP1B in vitro. The lead compound, 6-(2-benzylphenyl)-3-phenyl-[1,2,4]triazolo[3][1,3,4]thiadiazole (BPTT) was most effective against human hepatoma cells, inhibits cell invasion, and decreases neovasculature in HUVEC and also tumor volume in EAT mouse models. This report describes an experimentally unidentified class of condensed-bicyclic triazolo-thiadiazoles targeting PTP1B and its analogs could be the therapeutic drug-seeds.

Lung cancer among nonsmokers has emerged as a distinct clinicopathologic entity for which the etiology is still poorly understood, but which accounts for a significant proportion of the lung cancers among women. Although estrogens have been shown to have mitogenic effects in lung cells and interact with growth factor pathways in tumorigenesis, epidemiologic evidence for a link between reproductive hormones and lung cancer is sparse and inconsistent. We examined the effect of parity, age at menarche/menopause, cycle length and use of exogenous hormones, and dietary soy and soy isoflavonoid intake on lung cancer risk in a prospective cohort of middle-aged and elderly Chinese women in Singapore among whom 91% were lifetime nonsmokers.

Methods: Forty-eight female Wistar rats with cryoinjured hearts were randomized into non-treated normal (group-1, n=12), DMEM injected (group-2, n=10), myoblast-transplanted (group-3, n=12) and myoblast-hVEGF(165) (group-4, n=14).
