Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine, National University Health System, Singapore; and Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, Singapore.

Background: Acceptance and willingness to pay for the COVID-19 vaccine are unknown.

Aims: We compared attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccination in people suffering from depression or anxiety disorder and people without mental disorders, and their willingness to pay for it.

Method: Adults with depression or anxiety disorder ( = 79) and healthy controls ( = 134) living in Chongqing, China, completed a cross-sectional study between 13 and 26 January 2021.

All-Solid-State Thin Film μ-Batteries for Microelectronics.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

October 2021

Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore, Singapore, 117575, Singapore.

Continuous advances in microelectronics and micro/nanoelectromechanical systems enable the use of microsized energy storage devices, namely solid-state thin-film μ-batteries. Different from the current button batteries, the μ-battery can directly be integrated on microchips forming a very compact "system on chip" since no liquid electrolyte is used in the μ-battery. The all-solid-state battery (ASSB) that uses solid-state electrolyte has become a research trend because of its high safety and increased capacity.

Understanding and Preventing Dendrite Growth in Lithium Metal Batteries.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

July 2021

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National University of Singapore, 117576, Singapore.

Dendrite growth under large current density is the key intrinsic issue impeding a wider application of Li metal anodes. Previous studies mainly focused on avoiding dendrite growth by building an additional interface layer or surface modification. However, the mechanism and factors affecting dendrite growth for Li metal anodes are still unclear.

Intrinsic low sodium/NASICON interfacial resistance paving the way for room temperature sodium-metal battery.

Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore, Singapore 117575, Singapore; National University of Singapore (Suzhou) Research Institute, Suzhou 215123, PR China; National University of Singapore (Chongqing) Research Institute, Chongqing 401123, P.R. China. Electronic address:

Sodium-metal batteries have strong potential to be utilized as stationary high energy density storage devices. Owing to its high ionic conductivity, low electronic conductivity and relatively easy fabrication, NASICON-structure electrolyte (NaZrSiPO) is one of the potential candidates to be considered in the solid-state sodium-metal batteries at room temperature. However, the large interfacial resistance between the solid-state electrolyte and the metallic sodium is known to limit the critical current density (CCD) of the cell.

An Asia-Pacific study on healthcare workers' perceptions of, and willingness to receive, the COVID-19 vaccination.

Int J Infect Dis

May 2021

Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, Singapore; Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine, National University Health System, Singapore.

Objective: In the fight against COVID-19, vaccination is vital in achieving herd immunity. Many Asian countries are starting to vaccinate frontline workers; however, expedited vaccine development has led to hesitancy among the general population. We evaluated the willingness of healthcare workers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Background: There is little understanding on how brief relaxation practice and viewing greenery images would affect brain responses during cognitive tasks. In the present study, we examined the variation in brain activation of the prefrontal cortex during arithmetic tasks before and after viewing greenery images, brief relaxation practice, and control task using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS).

Method: This randomized controlled study examined the activation patterns of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) in three groups of research participants who were exposed to viewing greenery images ( = 10), brief relaxation practice ( = 10), and control task ( = 11).

A quantitative and qualitative study on the neuropsychiatric sequelae of acutely ill COVID-19 inpatients in isolation facilities.

Transl Psychiatry

October 2020

Department of Psychological Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, Singapore, 119077, Singapore.

This study examined the neuropsychiatric sequelae of acutely ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection who received treatment in hospital isolation wards during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ten COVID-19 patients who received treatment in various hospitals in Chongqing, China; 10 age- and gender-matched psychiatric patients; and 10 healthy control participants residing in the same city were recruited. All participants completed a survey that collected information on demographic data, physical symptoms in the past 14 days and psychological parameters.
