: Chagas disease is a neglected tropical disease caused by infection with the parasite . Benznidazole and nifurtimox are the only approved drugs for treating this condition, but their low aqueous solubility may lead to erratic bioavailability. This work aimed for the first time to formulate tablets of nifurtimox by hot melt extrusion coupled with 3D printing as a strategy to increase drug dissolution and the production of tablets with dosage on demand.

This video aims to describe an endoscopic surgical approach for accessing difficult to reach pathology such as disc herniations after previous surgery. The relatively small size of endoscopic instruments facilitates significant freedom of movement inside the spinal canal. The authors have experience with interlaminar approaches for contralateral pathology such as disc herniations, recurrent disc herniations, spinal stenosis, and facet cysts.

Background: The aims of this review were to identify and to analyze the clinical studies that used subcutaneous injections of dextrose for treating musculoskeletal pain, in order to establish an overview.
Methods: A systematic search was carried out in scientific databases including Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PUBMED and other sources, up until March 2024. We included clinical studies that used subcutaneous injections of dextrose in the treatment of individuals with musculoskeletal pain associated with tendinopathies, enthesopathy, osteoarthritis, ligament sprains, muscle strains or bursitis of various locations.

Purpose: This work aimed to develop fenbendazole nanocrystals to evaluate their effects on the energetic metabolism of cysticerci, following an intracranial inoculation in mice.
Methods: Fenbendazole was nanoformulated by the antisolvent method using poloxamers 188 and 407 as stabilizers. The nanosuspensions were lyophilized without cryoprotectants and the nanocrystals were characterized in terms of particle size, zeta potential, and dissolution performance.

Infections, particularly those involving the respiratory tract, are associated with an increased incidence of cardiovascular events, both de novo and as exacerbations of pre-existing cardiovascular diseases. Influenza vaccination has consistently been shown to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular events. Nonetheless, vaccination rates among adults remain suboptimal, both in the general population and among high-risk individuals.

Purpose: Magnetic resonance-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRgLITT) is a novel, minimally invasive alternative to traditional open surgery corpus callosotomy (CC). We aim to compare both approaches in terms of time of hospitalization and surgical procedure, complications, and efficacy outcomes.
Methods: A systematic search on PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases was performed for studies directly comparing MRgLITT and open surgery for refractory epilepsy in children.

The cacao fruit is a rich source of polyphenols, including flavonoids and phenolic acids, which possess significant health benefits. The accurate identification and quantification of these bioactive compounds extracted from different parts of the cacao fruit, such as pods, beans, nibs, and cacao shells, require specific treatment conditions and analytical techniques. This review presents a comprehensive comparison of extraction processes and analytical techniques used to identify and quantify polyphenols from various parts of the cacao fruit.

Neglected diseases such as leishmaniasis, dengue, and chikungunya pose significant challenges to public health due to their high prevalence and wide geographic distribution in the Southern Cone region. These diseases are transmitted through insect bites, which serve as natural reservoirs. While their imaging findings are not always conclusive, they can play a crucial role in the diagnosis and monitoring.

Focal microdontia is a dental anomaly characterized by the presence of a single abnormally small anterior or posterior tooth. The objective of this article is to provide an updated review of the literature on the advanced restorative management of focal microdontia, and to document a clinical case where the reviewed advanced restorative approaches were applied to treat a young adult presenting with a non-syndromic asymmetrical focal microdontia. We conducted a preliminary examination of the existing literature on the advanced restorative management of focal microdontia.

Choosing Wisely is an initiative by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and ABIM Foundation to deter unnecessary medical treatments and procedures. Faced with the burden of modern technologies and treatments, it is crucial to identify practices lacking value in daily care. The Latin American and Caribbean Society (SLACOM), comprising cancer control experts, deems it vital to tailor this initiative for enhancing cancer care in the region.

Considering the health relevance of Chagas' disease, recent research efforts have focused on developing more efficient drug delivery systems containing nifurtimox (NFX). This paper comprehensively investigates NFX through conformational analysis and spectroscopic characterization. Using a conformer-rotamer ensemble sampling tool (CREST-xtb), five distinct conformers of NFX were sampled within a 3.

Background And Objectives: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) has been established as the gold standard of treatment for patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke (AIS) who present up to 6 h after the onset of the stroke. Recently, the DEFUSE-3 and DAWN trials established the safety of starting the MT procedure up to 16 and 24 h after the patient was last seen well, respectively. The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and functional effects of thrombectomy in individuals with AIS detected at a late stage (> 24 h).

The present study aims at understanding the effect of organic solvents on the specific proteolytic activity and operational stability of asclepain cI in aqueous-organic media, using correlations between geometrical and structural parameters of asclepain cI. These correlations were determined by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and the secondary structure of the enzyme validated by Fourier-transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Asclepain cI exhibited significantly higher catalytic potential in 29 of the 42 aqueous-organic media tested, composed by 0.

Background: Corticosteroid injections are frequently used in the short-term treatment of musculoskeletal pain, but their use is controversial as repeated exposures to corticosteroids can lead to deleterious effects on musculoskeletal tissue. Ozone injections have been proposed as a possible treatment for musculoskeletal pain; however, their effectiveness has not been compared with corticosteroids.
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of ozone injections for reducing pain in individuals with musculoskeletal pain in comparison with corticosteroid injections through a meta-analysis.

Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive tumor known for its poor prognosis. Despite extensive research into its molecular and clinical aspects, the current management strategies have shown limited efficacy in improving survival rate. Despite some preclinical studies exploring the combination of temozolomide (TMZ) with biguanides such as metformin (MET) and others, the potential benefits of this combination remain uncertain.

Despite nifurtimox (NFX) being a traditional drug for treating Chagas disease, some of its physicochemical properties are still unknown, especially its thermal behavior, which brings important outcomes regarding stability and compatibility. In this work, a comprehensive study of NFX's thermal properties was conducted to assist incremental innovations that can improve the efficacy of this drug in novel pharmaceutical products. For this purpose, thermal analyses associated with spectroscopy and spectrometry techniques were used.

Background: Many patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) do not achieve complete control of their symptoms with current available treatments. In a dose-finding phase 2b study, ligelizumab improved urticaria symptoms in patients with H1-antihistamine (H1-AH) refractory CSU. Here, we report the efficacy and safety outcomes from two ligelizumab phase 3 studies.
