Background: Xanthohumol (XN), a bioactive flavonoid from Humulus lupulus with anti-inflammatory properties, has potential benefits for patients with Crohn's disease (CD), a type of inflammatory bowel disease. We recently completed and published results of a placebo-controlled phase I clinical trial demonstrating the safety and tolerability of 24 mg XN daily for 8 weeks. The present study aims to evaluate the safety and tolerability of the same dose of XN adults with clinically active CD in a placebo-controlled phase II clinical trial.

Functional dyspepsia is a common presenting concern that includes symptoms such as gastrointestinal reflux, postprandial bloating, and abdominal pain. Aside from mainstay conventional therapies such as proton pump inhibitors and antacid tablets that seek to manage symptoms, naturopathic therapies can similarly offer symptom relief and simultaneously address factors underlying functional digestive disturbances. In this case, a 25-year-old female and first year graduate student presented with abdominal bloating, epigastric pain, flatulence, eructations, reflux, and straining with stool.

This case report examines the treatment of a 55-year-old White female who initially presented to the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) Lair Hill Health Center with a chief complaint of an inflamed epidermoid cyst of the posterolateral aspect of the left upper arm. The patient attended several visits over the course of 2 months. Initial treatment recommendations included oral antibiotics, which the patient declined, and natural treatments used to decrease progression of infection and to increase skin healing.

This case study examines a 49-year-old Asian American female patient with long-standing fatigue and depression (20 years or more), for which pharmaceutical antidepressant therapies have been ineffective. History, physical examination, laboratory tests, and Genomind Genecept Assay genetic testing were used to determine symptom severity, investigate the presence of organic causes of fatigue, and provide a potential novel monotherapy for depression. Therapeutic intervention included a slow titration of L-methylfolate to an eventual therapeutic daily dose of 15 mg.
