Stress, a Brief Update.

Stress is fundamental for health and adaptation; it is an evolutionarily conserved response that involves several systems in the organism. The study of the stress response could be traced back to the end of the nineteenth century with George Beard's or Claude Bernard's work and, from that moment on, several studies that have allowed the elucidation of its neurobiology and the consequences of suffering from it were consolidated. In this theoretical review, we discuss the most relevant researches to our knowledge on the study of stress response, from the concept of stress, its neurobiology, the hormonal response during stress, as well as its regulation, the effects of acute and chronic stress, stress from cognition, the different stress responses during life, as well as its relationship with different psychiatric disorders.

Canine Mammary Cancer: State of the Art and Future Perspectives.

Mammary cancer is the most frequently diagnosed neoplasia in women and non-spayed female dogs and is one of the leading causes of death in both species. Canines develop spontaneous mammary tumors that share a significant number of biological, clinical, pathological and molecular characteristics with human breast cancers. This review provides a detailed description of the histological, molecular and clinical aspects of mammary cancer in canines; it discusses risk factors and currently available diagnostic and treatment options, as well as remaining challenges and unanswered questions.

How much of the Mexican agricultural supply is produced by small farms, and how?

The contribution of small farms to the global food supply is in debate due to lack of empirical evidence. In Mexico, small farms have been relatively important for national food supply due to an agrarian reform in the first half of the 20th century, but their role has been decreasing in the last decades. The aim of this study is to quantify how much small farms produce of the Mexican agricultural supply, and with which farming practices, using the 2019 National Agricultural Survey.

Shift work disorder (SWD) may affect medical residents because their workload, academic demands and extended work hours. This condition set residents at risk of more sleep disorders. The study compared parasomnias among residents with and without shift work disorder (SWD) and weighed their relative risk (RR) for each parasomnia.

Differential fetal growth rates mediated by sociodemographic factors in Yucatan, Mexico: an epidemiological study.

Background: Fetal growth restriction (FGR) may be related to ethnicity. Additionally, ethnic groups experience adverse socioeconomic circumstances that increase FGR risk. However, the dearth of evidence of the interaction between socioeconomic factors and FGR highlights the need for additional research.

Effect of whole-body vibration training on transcutaneous oxygen levels of the foot in patients with type 2 diabetes: A randomized controlled trial.

Whole body vibration (WBV) has been suggested as improving skin and blood flow. This study aimed to determine the effect of exposure to WBV on levels of partial transcutaneous oxygen pressure (TcPO2) in the foot of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) within the metabolic control goals. A block randomized, open, two-arm, parallel and controlled clinical trial was conducted.

PRECISION MEDICINE FOR METABOLIC DISORDERS IN LOW- AND MIDDLE-INCOME COUNTRIES: AREAS OF OPPORTUNITY AND CHALLENGES FOR THE FUTURE.

The purpose of this perspective is to analyze the use of precision medicine and its potential for the next few decades with a special focus on the low- and middle-income countries, using diabetes as a paradigm. Precision medicine has improved the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and prognosis of several malignant neoplasia. Furthermore, this approach is useful in the management of monogenic diabetes.

Habituation Alteration in Infants with Periventricular Echogenicity as an Indicator of Neurocognitive Impairment.

Habituation difficulties may suggest neurocognitive impairment. Periventricular echogenicity (PVE) potentially causes subtle damage that poses neuropsychological risk. Habituation was evaluated through heart rate and behavioral states in infants at 36-37 weeks of corrected age between control and PVE groups.

TYK2 Variants in B-Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (B-ALL) is a malignancy of lymphoid progenitor cells with altered genes including the Janus kinase (JAK) gene family. Among them, tyrosine kinase 2 (TYK2) is involved in signal transduction of cytokines such as interferon (IFN) α/β through IFN-α/β receptor alpha chain (IFNAR1). To search for disease-associated TYK2 variants, bone marrow samples from 62 B-ALL patients at diagnosis were analysed by next-generation sequencing.

Parasomnias in patients with addictions-a systematic review.

Parasomnias are involuntary behaviors or subjective experiences during sleep. Our objective was to review existing information on the presence of parasomnias in patients with addictions or during treatment for addictions. Information about parasomnias related to rapid-eye-movement (REM) and non-REM sleep in patients with addictions, while using substances or in abstinence, was reviewed.

Review: Strategies for enteric methane mitigation in cattle fed tropical forages.

Methane (CH4) is a greenhouse gas (GHG) produced and released by eructation to the atmosphere in large volumes by ruminants. Enteric CH4 contributes significantly to global GHG emissions arising from animal agriculture. It has been contended that tropical grasses produce higher emissions of enteric CH4 than temperate grasses, when they are fed to ruminants.

DISPERSION OF A NEW CORONAVIRUS SARS-COV-2 BY AIRLINES IN 2020: TEMPORAL ESTIMATES OF THE OUTBREAK IN MEXICO.

Background: On January 23, 2020, China imposed a quarantine on the city of Wuhan to contain the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak. Regardless of this measure, the new infection has spread to several countries around the world.

Objective: We developed a method to study the dissemination of this infection by airline routes and provide estimations of the time of arrival of the outbreak to different cities.

Sexually dimorphic dynamics of thyroid axis activity during fasting in rats.

Starvation induces tertiary hypothyroidism in adult rodents. Response of the hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis to starvation is stronger in adult males than in females. To improve the description of this sexual dimorphism, we analyzed the dynamics of HPT axis response to fasting at multiple levels.

Differences in electroencephalographic spectra during pre-sleep wakefulness, N1, and R sleep between comorbid insomnia and obstructive sleep apnea.

Purpose: The neuropsychobiological effects of the comorbidity of insomnia and obstructive sleep apnea are not well studied. Our objective was to compare electroencephalographic spectra of patients with comorbid insomnia and sleep apnea syndrome to those of patients with sleep apnea syndrome alone during pre-sleep wakefulness and the N1 and R sleep periods.

Method: We performed electroencephalography and polysomnography on 10 patients with comorbid insomnia and sleep apnea and 10 with only sleep apnea.
