The increase in the global prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2), driven mainly by obesity and physical inactivity, has increased interest in various nonpharmacological therapies. This systematic review aims to establish the effectiveness of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and resistance exercise (RE) compared with continuous aerobic exercise in improving control in patients with DM2. We conducted a comprehensive search for clinical trials using databases such as MEDLINE (PubMed) and Web of Science.

Biliary cannulation in the context of intradiverticular papilla (IDP) during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) remains a challenge even for experts. A 71-year-old woman with choledocholithiasis failed extrainstitutional ERCP because of the presence of IDP. A new ERCP was performed, identifying papillary orifice at the edge of the diverticulum, biliary cannulation by means of SpyBite and sphincterotome, visualizing intra and extrahepatic bile duct dilatation, proceeding to large balloon bilioplasty with extraction of biliary sludge, with optimal results and without complications.

Bread wheat is an important crop for the human diet, but the increasing soil salinization is reducing the yield. The Ca signaling events at the early stages of the osmotic phase of salt stress are crucial for the acclimation response of the plants through the performance of calcium-sensing proteins, which activate or repress transcription factors (TFs) that affect the expression of downstream genes. Physiological, genetic mapping, and transcriptomics studies performed with the contrasting genotypes Syn86 (synthetic, salt-susceptible) and Zentos (elite cultivar, salt-tolerant) were integrated to gain a comprehensive understanding of the salt stress response.

Purpose: This paper explores different machine learning (ML) algorithms for analyzing diffusion nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) models when analytical fitting shows restrictions. It reviews various ML techniques for dMRI analysis and evaluates their performance on different -values range datasets, comparing them with analytical methods.
Materials And Methods: After standard fitting for reference, four sets of diffusion-weighted nuclear magnetic resonance images were used to train/test various ML algorithms for prediction of diffusion coefficient (D), pseudo-diffusion coefficient (D*), perfusion fraction (f), and kurtosis (K).

The most promising treatment options for severe uncontrolled asthma (SUA) have emerged in recent years with the development of monoclonal antibodies for blocking selective targets responsible for the underlying inflammation, such as mepolizumab and benralizumab. However, there is variability in treatment response that is not fully controlled. The variability of the response to mepolizumab and benralizumab could be influenced by single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and it would be useful to detect these and use them as predictive biomarkers of response.

Wolbachia pipientis (Hertig, 1936), also referred as Wolbachia, is a bacterium present across insect taxa, certain strains of which have been demonstrated to impact the fitness and capacity to transmit viruses in mosquitoes, particularly Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus, 1762). Most studies examine these impacts in limited sets of environmental regimes. Here we seek to understand the impacts of environmentally relevant conditions such as larval density, temperature, and their interaction on wAlbB-infected A.

Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) primarily affects the adult population and is closely related to obesity. The most severe form of MASLD, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), can progress to liver fibrosis. While lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) is known to be associated with cardiovascular disease, its relationship with MASLD remains unclear.

Background: There is a great debate about the role of biopsies per protocol in kidney transplant recipients, and the published studies show contradictory results. We aimed to assess the safety and effectiveness of protocol biopsies in kidney transplant recipients in improving short- and long-term outcomes.
Methods: We conducted searches until July of 2023 to identify all randomized clinical trials (RCT).

The ability of soil to sequester carbon and reduce atmospheric CO concentrations is limited and depends on the soil minerals and their interaction with the microbiota. Microbial activities are closely associated with the types and amounts of soil organic matter (SOM) and clay minerals that have functional groups that interact with energy in Vis NIR-SWIR and Mid-IR wavelengths. The main objective of this research was to determine, based on these spectral ranges, the relation between mineralogical and organic compounds, as their sequestration and specialization in soils from Brazil.

Introduction: Interstitial lung disease is a leading cause of mortality in patients with systemic sclerosis. Currently, there is a lack of consensus regarding screening, rescreening, diagnosis, and follow-up practices in interstitial lung disease associated with systemic sclerosis (SSc-ILD) in Colombia.
Methods: A structured survey focused on clinical practices in patients with SSc-ILD was conducted.

Background: In Latin America, interventions aimed at adolescents' health suffer from a shortfall of investment and lack of sustainability. Nurses, as an integral part of health services and systems, can lead the implementation and development of public health policies to improve adolescent health.
Objective: To identify and analyze the role of nurses in the development and implementation of public policies and in the provision of health care to adolescents in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

Early childhood is foundational for optimal and inclusive lifelong learning, health and well-being. Young children with disabilities face substantial risks of sub-optimal early childhood development (ECD), requiring targeted support to ensure equitable access to lifelong learning opportunities, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Although the Sustainable Development Goals, 2015-2030 (SDGs) emphasise inclusive education for children under 5 years with disabilities, there is no global strategy for achieving this goal since the launch of the SDGs.

Sesame oil has been widely used in the daily diet due to its high nutritional value. Sesame oil is extracted at industrial scales and also in small scale by cold pressing at different temperatures. In this research, sesame oil was extracted by pressing at four temperatures, namely, 30 (control sample), 60, 90 and 120 °C, to evaluate its effects on the quality of extracted oils.

This article draws a perspective on the increasingly unavoidable question of whether steps can be taken in genomics and biology at large to move them more rapidly towards more analytical and deductive biology, akin to similar developments that occurred in other natural sciences, such as physics and chemistry, centuries ago. It provides a summary of recent advances in other relevant sciences in the last 3 decades that are likely to pull it in that direction in the next decade or so, as well as what methods and tools will make it possible.

Exposome studies are advancing in high-income countries to understand how multiple environmental exposures impact health. However, there is a significant research gap in low- and middle-income and tropical countries. We aimed to describe the spatiotemporal variation of the external exposome, its correlation structure between and within exposure groups, and its dimensionality.

Background: The objective of this study was to investigate gender differences in authorship in physical activity and health research.
Methods: A bibliometric study including 23,399 articles from 105 countries was conducted to estimate the participation of female researchers in physical activity publications from 1950 to 2019. The frequency of female researchers was analyzed and classified by first and last authors and the overall percentage of female authors by region and country.

Unlabelled: COVID-19 is an illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, a type of coronavirus initially identified in China in late 2019, emerging as the leading cause of death attributed to a single infectious agent worldwide. The COVID-19 pandemic poses a substantial challenge to global public health in the first quarter of this century. The rapid evolution of the pandemic and its intricate response have hindered the formulation of definitive conclusions, and it may take years to comprehend its long-term effects.

Aims: Our cost-of-illness (COI) model adopted payer and societal perspectives over five years to measure the economic burden of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) in Colombia.
Materials And Methods: A prevalence-based model was constructed to estimate costs and economic consequences for SLE patients in Colombia. The model included four health states: three phenotypes of SLE representing mild, moderate, and severe states and death.
