Live cultures, including Nannochloropsis oculata and Brachionus plicatilis, are essential in aquaculture due to its economic and nutritional value for commercial fish species. Pathogens and probiotics can be introduced to aquaculture systems by live feed, with variations in abundance influenced by environmental physicochemical parameters. To investigate this, amplicon sequencing of the V3-V4 region of the 16S rRNA was conducted using Illumina MiSeq to elucidate bacterial abundances and their variations in response to changes in physicochemical parameters in live feed cultures.

The Mauritanian Atlantic coast is a vital economic and environmental region, currently facing increasing anthropogenic pressures, leading to pollution such as PAHs contamination which threatens its ecological integrity and economic value. To assess this pollution the coast was divided into 4 zones: 2 anthropogenically stressed (LBZ and PNkt) and 2 unstressed (PNBA and PDlt); next, 16EPA-PAHs concentrations were determined in sediments and bio-tissues. In sediments, the highest 16EPA-PAHs concentrations, as mean per zone, were found in PNkt (21.

The global population is ageing and the rheumatology workforce should be prepared to take care of the inevitable complexities of ageing patients. We can learn from our colleagues and experts in geriatrics about how best to manage multimorbidity, polypharmacy, geriatric syndromes, and shifting priorities of older patients in the context of delivering care for rheumatic diseases. One approach to learning and adopting key ageing constructs within rheumatology practice is to incorporate the established Geriatric 5Ms-principles fundamental to caring for older adults.

Background: Food waste is a global issue affecting society from environmental, nutritional, and social perspectives. In collaboration with the National Board of Preschools, fruit and vegetable waste generated during the preparation of lunch was quantified in four preschools in the Metropolitan area of Santiago in Chile.
Methods: This study was conducted in four preschools, two in the Western area of Santiago and two in the Eastern area, of which two hold environmental quality certifications.

Objectives: This study aimed to establish the exposure-lag-response effect between daily maximum temperature and stroke-related emergency department visits and to project heat-induced stroke impacts under global warming levels (GWL) of 2 °C and 4 °C.
Methods: Stroke-related emergency department visits in Taiwan from 2001 to 2020 were identified using the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD). The study population consisted of 1,100,074 initial stroke cases matched with 2,200,148 non-stroke controls.

Among mammals, bats harbour the greatest taxonomic diversity of ectoparasitic arthropods. This is mainly due to their high mobility, wide distribution range and gregarious social behaviour. In Chile, 17 species of bats have been reported; however, their ectoparasitic arthropofauna has been little studied.

Purpose Of Review: Heart failure (HF) represents a pathology in constant growth, but, despite the fact that a significant proportion of its population is comprised of elderly patients, they are not adequately represented in clinical trials or registries. They constitute a heterogeneous population with their particularities and interaction of the multiple comorbidities that characterize this age group, which makes the clinical course, prognosis and outcomes of the disease different.
Recent Findings: Compared to men, women with HF tend to be older, with a greater burden of non-cardiovascular comorbidities, less ischemic heart disease and preserved ventricular function in most cases.

In Public Goods Games (PGG), the temptation to free-ride on others' contributions poses a significant threat to the sustainability of cooperative societies. Therefore, societies strive to mitigate this through incentive systems, employing rewards and punishments to foster cooperative behavior. Thus, peer punishment, in which cooperators sanction defectors, as well as pool punishment, where a centralized punishment institution executes the punishment, is deeply analyzed in previous works.

Background: The increased risk of tuberculosis (TB) among people deprived of liberty (PDL) is due to individual and institution-level factors. We followed a cohort of PDL from 5 prisons in Paraguay to describe the risk of TB during incarceration and after they were released.
Methods: We linked a 2013 national census of prisons with TB records from the TB Program from 2010 to 2021 to identify TB notifications among incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals.

Objective: Exposure to ambient PM and its bound metals poses a risk to health and disease, via, in part, oxidative stress response. A variety of oxidative stress markers have been used as markers of response, but their relevance to environmental exposure remains to be established. We evaluated, longitudinally, a battery of oxidative stress markers and their relationship with the exposure of PM and its bound metals in a panel of healthy participants.

This study explores the potential correlation between income and exposure to air pollution for the city of Madrid, Spain and its neighboring municipalities. Madrid is a well-known European air pollution hotspot with a high mortality burden attributable to nitrogen dioxide (NO) and fine particulate matter (PM). Statistical analyses were carried out using electoral district level data on gross household income (GHI), and NO and PM concentrations in air obtained from a mesoscale air quality model for the study area.
