We report the emergence of OXA-232, a newly described OXA-48-like carbapenemase variant, in Southeast Asia. Molecular characterization of eight Klebsiella pneumoniae obtained from local and foreign patients reveals clonality of the isolates. bla OXA-232 was located on a non-conjugative plasmid of 6141 base pairs (GenBank accession number JX423831.

Non-invasive methods are available to estimate central aortic blood pressure, the blood pressure at the origin of all arterial pulses. These methods obtain estimated central blood pressure by calibration and/or mathematical calculations for peripheral pulse waveforms.

Streptococcus constellatus bacteremia causing septic shock following tooth extraction: a case report.

Introduction: Organisms of the Streptococcus milleri group consists of Streptococcus intermedius, Streptococcus constellatus, and Streptococcus anginosus. Though they are commonly associated with abscesses, bacteremia with subsequent septic shock and mortality is infrequent.

Case Presentation: We report a case of a 27-year-old Chinese man who presented with Streptococcus constellatus bacteremia following an incomplete tooth extraction resulting in septic shock.

In vitro effects of local anaesthetics on the thromboelastographic profile of parturients.

Background: Post-dural puncture headache can be an incapacitating complication of obstetric epidural analgesia/anaesthesia and early or prophylactic epidural blood patch (EBP) is one of the treatment options. Although local anaesthetic (LA) agents have been shown to have anticoagulation effects in vitro, peri-partum women are known to be hypercoagulable. We postulated that the presence of residual LA might not result in impaired haemostasis of the EBP in parturients.

During the Japanese Occupation of Singapore (1942-1945), Singapore was renamed Syonan (or Syonanto). The Japanese Military Administration established The Medical College on 27 April 2603 (1943) and it was known as The Marei Ika Daigaku or Syonan Medical College. It was sited at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (Hakua Byoin).
