: Two-dimensional and three-dimensional echocardiographic imaging are commonly used in assessing ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) and degenerative mitral regurgitation (DMR) in patients with mitral valve disease. However, the use of 4D echocardiographic imaging has not yet been reported. The objectives of this study were to explore the efficacy of utilizing 4D echocardiographic variables, determine papillary muscle displacement in patients with either IMR or DMR, and compare the differences in papillary muscle displacement between groups.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) are increasingly used for anti-obesity indications. However, little is known of the comparative effect of GLP-1 RAs and their glycemic impact across the different routes of administration, diabetic statuses and durations of prescription. PubMed, EMBASE and CENTRAL were searched from inception to 13 February 2024.

There is a new awareness of the widespread nature of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and its connection to cardiovascular disease (CVD). This has catalyzed collaboration between cardiologists, hepatologists, endocrinologists, and the wider multidisciplinary team to address the need for earlier identification of those with MASLD who are at increased risk for CVD. The overlap in the pathophysiologic processes and parallel prevalence of CVD, metabolic syndrome, and MASLD highlight the multisystem consequences of poor cardiovascular-liver-metabolic health.

Background: Pathological Q waves at presentation in ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) have been associated with poorer clinical outcomes including heart failure. This observational study highlights the prognostic value of pathological Q waves at presentation in the Southeast Asian population.
Methods: Multiethnic Asian patients presenting with STEMI and treated with primary coronary intervention were recruited from 2015 to 2019.

Aim: Physician visual assessment (PVA) in invasive coronary angiography (ICA) is clinically used to determine stenosis severity and guide coronary intervention. However, PVA provides limited information regarding the haemodynamic significance of stenosis. This prospective study aimed to develop a model combining visual diameter stenosis (DS) and quantitative coronary angiography (QCA)-derived parameters to diagnose ischaemic lesions using invasive fractional flow reserve (FFR) with pharmacologically induced maximal hyperaemia as the gold standard.

Background: Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is an independent risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The relationship between Lp(a) and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in the context of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels remains controversial due to conflicting results from previous studies.
Objectives: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to clarify the association between Lp(a) and risk of MACE across different hs-CRP levels in both primary and secondary prevention settings.

Purpose Of Review: The heart - brain axis (HBA) is the physiological interactions between the cardiovascular and nervous systems through autonomic nerves, hormones, and cytokines. Patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus have an increased risk of the cardiovascular and neurological diseases. However, recent evidence demonstrated that different antidiabetic drugs may delay cognitive impairment and improve cardiovascular outcomes.

miR30d has been shown to reverse cardiac hypertrophy. However, effective delivery of miR30d to the heart is challenging. Here, we engineered milk-derived extracellular vesicles (mEVs) by surface functionalization with an ischemic myocardium-targeting peptide (IMTP) and encapsulated miR30d to develop a formulation, the miR30d-mEVs, enabling targeted delivery of miR30d to the injured heart.

The growing burden of CAD in Asia and the emergence of novel CT-based risk markers highlight the need for an automated platform that integrates patient data with CCTA findings to provide tailored, accurate cardiovascular risk assessments. This study aims to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven platform for CAD assessment using CCTA in Singapore's multiethnic population.

Background: Bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) has increased in Singapore, Japan, and South Korea following the implementation of several public health, bystander-focused interventions, such as dispatcher-assisted CPR and community CPR training. It is unclear whether bystander CPR prevalence will continue on this trajectory over time. This study aimed to investigate the temporal trends of bystander CPR prevalence over a ten-year period in these three Asian countries.

Background The use of intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) effectively reduces left ventricular afterload and significantly increases coronary perfusion pressure by raising aortic diastolic pressure. This study examined the short and medium-term outcomes of 22,540 adult cardiac surgical patients requiring an IABP. Methods From 2009 to 2018, 1114 patients (4.

Objectives: To perform a bibliometric analysis of publications of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) from 1981 to 2023 to summarize the current publications and explore frontiers on this topic.
Methods: We integrated the scientific publications on ARVC in the Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection database from January 1981 to September 2023, using the retrieval strategy of medical subject headings combined with keywords. We focused on articles and reviews that were published in English.

Heart failure is a clinical syndrome with rising global incidence and poor prognosis despite improvements in medical therapy. There is increasing research interest in epigenetic therapies for heart failure. Pathological cardiac remodelling may be driven by stress-activated cardiac signalling cascades, and emerging research has shown the involvement of epigenetic signals that regulate transcriptional changes leading to heart failure.

Yeo's index, the product of the mitral leaflet separation index and dimensionless index of mitral valve (MV), was recently described to accurately identify severe rheumatic mitral stenosis (MS). We assess the association between Yeo's index and clinical outcomes in patients with rheumatic MS. We studied 297 patients with rheumatic MS.

Background & Aims: Plant sterols (PS) have been shown to lower blood lipid-lipoproteins concentrations and may serve as a potential functional ingredient for cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk management. However, there are limited studies examining this effect in individuals with metabolic syndrome (MetS). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of PS-enriched food consumption as part of a healthy dietary pattern (HDP) on blood pressure and endothelial function in Singaporean adults with MetS.

The field of nanomedicine is undergoing a seismic transformations with the rise of nanosimilars, reshaping the pharmaceutical landscape and expanding beyond traditional innovators and generic manufacturers. Nanodrugs are increasingly replacing conventional therapies, offering improved efficacy and safety, while the demand for follow-on products drives market diversification. However, the transition from preclinical to clinical stages presents challenges due to the complex biopharmaceutical behavior of nanodrugs.

Introduction: Remote monitoring (RM) for cardiac implantable electronic devices is on the rise and has been shown to reduce the burden of in-clinic follow-up visits. We aimed to investigate the long-term clinical outcomes of RM versus no RM.
Methods: This was a prospective, single-centre cohort study of consecutive patients with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) or cardiac resynchronisation therapy-defibrillator (CRT-D) followed up from 2018 to 2023.
