Tri An Reservoir is a vital source of water for agriculture, industry, hydropower, and public usage in Southern Vietnam. Due to human activities, water eutrophication has become a serious problem in recent decades. This study investigated for the first time the impact of land use and land cover (LULC) change on streamflow and nitrate load from the upstream Dong Nai River basin, which is the largest watershed of the reservoir.

In this study, silver-immobilized graphene oxide/chitosan (AGC/CTS) membranes were assembled by the solvent evaporation method, wherein Curcuma longa extract was used to synthesize silver-immobilized graphene oxide (AGC) nanocomposite. The characterization results showed that the AGC was successfully synthesized with AgNPs distributed quite evenly on GO sheets. The as-prepared AGC also exhibited high antibacterial activity and low cytotoxicity towards normal cell lines compared to human epithelial carcinoma cell lines.

The sustainable production of hydrogen peroxide (HO) from oxygen and water has become an exciting research hotspot in the scientific community due to the importance of this fine chemical in various fields. Besides, piezo-photocatalysis is an emerging star for generating HO from these green reagents. For developing catalysts for this specific application, doping heteroatoms into carbon-based materials such as graphitic carbon nitrides (g-CN) is a growing fascination among worldwide scientists.

The considerable increase in world energy consumption owing to rising global population, intercontinental transportation and industrialization has posed numerous environmental concerns. Particularly, in order to meet the required electricity supply, thermal power plants for electricity generation are widely used in many countries. However, an annually excessive quantity of waste fly ash up to 1 billion tones was globally discarded from the combustion of various carbon-containing feedstocks in thermoelectricity plants.

Economic activities are constantly increasing in the southern key economic region (SKER), especially in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), which leads to the influx of large amounts of wastewater from this region into Ganh Rai Bay (GRB). The problem of assessing the marine environmental carrying capacity (MECC) of coastal areas is urgent, and the role of self-cleaning must be elucidated. Four typical pollution parameters were selected: ammonium (NH), biological oxygen demand (BOD), phosphate (PO), and coliforms.

This research assesses the adaptive capacity of farmers in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta's floodplains (VMD) with respect to hydrological changes. Currently, climate change and socio-economic developments induce extreme- and diminishing floods, which in turn increase farmers' vulnerability. This research assesses farmers' adaptive capacity to hydrological changes using two prevalent farming systems: high dykes featuring triple-crop rice farming and low dykes where fields are left fallow during the flood season.

Recent therapeutic advances in breast cancer (BC) have improved survival outcomes; however, the prognosis for patients with bone metastasis (BM) remains poor. Hence, novel clinical biomarkers are needed to accurately predict BC BM as well as to promote personalized medicine. Here, we discovered a novel biomarker, TOR1B, for BM in BC patients via analysis of BC gene expression data and clinical information downloaded from open public databases.

The Mekong River Delta in Vietnam, is concerned by numerous microplastic-related issues such as a lack of wastewater treatment facilities and mismanagement of plastic waste released from agriculture, aquaculture and related activities. This study aimed to examine the presence of microplastics in surface water and sediment by collecting samples from six sites along the Tien River and its distributaries in February 2019. The results showed that the average concentration of microplastics over the entire area was 53.

The global trend of increasing energy demand along the large volume of wastewater generated annually from the paper pulping and cellulose production industries are considered as serious dilemma that may need to be solved within these current decades. Within this discipline, lignin, silica or lignin-silica hybrids attained from biomass material have been considered as prospective candidates for the synthesis of advanced materials. In this study, the roles and linking mechanism between lignin and silica in plants were studied and evaluated.

Compounds containing benzimidazole moiety occupy privileged chemical space for discovering new bioactive substances. In continuation of our recent work, 69 benzimidazole derivatives were designed and synthesized with good to excellent yields of 46-99% using efficient synthesis protocol sodium metabisulfite catalyzed condensation of aromatic aldehydes with -phenylenediamines to form 2-arylbenzimidazole derivatives followed by -alkylation by conventional heating or microwave irradiation for diversification. Potent antibacterial compounds against MSSA and MRSA were discovered such as benzimidazole compounds 3k (2-(4-nitrophenyl), -benzyl), 3l (2-(4-chlorophenyl), -(4-chlorobenzyl)), 4c (2-(4-chlorophenyl), 6-methyl, -benzyl), 4g (2-(4-nitrophenyl), 6-methyl, -benzyl), and 4j (2-(4-nitrophenyl), 6-methyl, -(4-chlorobenzyl)) with MIC of 4-16 μg mL.

Many alternative approaches for 3D object detection using a singular camera have been studied instead of leveraging high-precision 3D LiDAR sensors incurring a prohibitive cost. Recently, we proposed a novel approach for 3D object detection by employing a ground plane model that utilizes geometric constraints named GAC3D to improve the results of the deep-based detector. GAC3D adopts an adaptive depth convolution to replace the traditional 2D convolution to deal with the divergent context of the image's feature, leading to a significant improvement in both training convergence and testing accuracy on the KITTI 3D object detection benchmark.

Background: Effective delivery of health services requires adequate quality in healthcare facilities and easy accessibility to health services physically or virtually. The purpose of this study was to reveal how the quality of healthcare facilities varies across the different parts of Ho Chi Minh City and how well residents (N = 9 million) can reach healthcare facilities. By demarcating the deficiently served areas of low accessibility, the study shows where urban planning and digital healthcare could improve accessibility to health services and the quality of services efficiently.

Despite the known high toxicity of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs, or dioxins), there are few case studies of PCDD/Fs contamination in sediment and there remains much to learn regarding their ecological impact. In this study, we performed an environmental risk assessment of a brine water storage pond near a chemical plant with high PCDD/Fs pollution potential before and after corrective actions. We found PCDD/F accumulation in the pond's fish and crab from the brine water storage pond, and the PCDD/Fs concentrations in biota higher than Taiwan's food safety standard (3.

The water environment of a river network can self-clean to a certain extent; however, when the wastewater discharge load exceeds a certain threshold, the balance of nature is disrupted, leading to water pollution. This emphasises the urgent need to evaluate river water environmental capacity (RWEC) as a necessary parameter for sustainable development. However, to quantify the RWEC, it is important to estimate the hydrological and hydrodynamic factors in the basin, leading to the linking of these models.

Despite the importance of transboundary water management, cooperation mechanisms are limited, especially in the case of Mekong River basin where environmental and social aspects are threatened by recent anthropogenic pressures like hydropower development. Existing transboundary mechanism such as the Mekong River Commission (MRC) is challenged to facilitate the cooperation between riparian states. An epistemic community (EC) is considered to effectively influence international governance and is studied as part of transboundary river regimes.

Transportation has the highest dependence on fossil fuels of any sector and accounts for 37% of carbon dioxide (CO) emissions. Maritime transportation is responsible for around 940 million tons of CO and approximately 3% of global emissions annually. The significant increase in shipping activities around the globe has magnified the generation of toxic pollutants.
