This work aims to examine the effect of self-assembly on the chiroptic responses of the achiral block copolymer (BCP) polystyrene--poly(ethylene oxide) (PS--PEO) associated with chiral luminophores, ()- or ()-1,1'-bi-2-naphthol (()- or ()-BINOL), through hydrogen bonding. With the formation of a well-ordered helical phase (H*), significantly induced circular dichroism (ICD) signals for the PEO block in the mixture can be found. Most interestingly, a remarkable amplification with an extremely large dissymmetry factor of luminescence () from 10 to 0.

Department of Chemical Engineering, National Tsing Hua University No. 101, Section 2, Kuang-Fu Road, Hsinchu, Taiwan, 30013, Republic of China.

Many sophisticated chiral materials are found in living organisms, giving specific functions and required complexity. Owing to the remarkable optical properties of chiral materials, they have drawn significant attention for the development of synthetic materials to give optical activities for appealing applications. In contrast to a top-down approach, the bottom-up approach from self-assembled systems with chiral host-achiral guest and achiral guest-chiral host for induced circular dichroism and induced circularly polarized luminescence has greatly emerged because of its cost-effective advantage with easy fabrication for mesoscale assembly.

Characterizing intersection variability of butterfly diagram in post-stroke gait using Kernel Density Estimation.

Gait Posture

February 2020

Department of Physical Therapy, University of Nevada, Las Vegas 4505 S Maryland Pkwy, Box 453029 Las Vegas, NV 89154 USA. Electronic address:

Background: Center of pressure (COP) trajectory during treadmill walking have been commonly presented using the butterfly diagram to describe gait characteristics in neurologically intact and impaired individuals. However, due to the large amount of displayed information, the butterfly diagram is not an efficient solution to visualize locomotor variability.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate post-stroke locomotor variability by applying Kernel density estimation (KDE) on the intersections of the butterfly diagram, and to compare KDE derived metrics with conventional metrics of gait symmetry and variability.

An all-electronic, droplet-based batch microfluidic device, operated using the electrowetting on dielectric (EWOD) mechanism was developed for on-demand synthesis of -succinimidyl-4-[F]fluorobenzoate ([F]SFB), the most commonly used F-prosthetic group for biomolecule labeling. In order to facilitate the development of peptides, and proteins as new diagnostic and therapeutic agents, we have diversified the compact EWOD microfluidic platform to perform the three-step radiosynthesis of [F]SFB starting from the no carrier added [F]fluoride ion. In this report, we established an optimal microliter droplet reaction condition to obtain reliable yields and synthesized [F]SFB with sufficient radioactivity for subsequent conjugation to the anti-PSCA cys-diabody (A2cDb) and for small animal imaging.

For the first time, functional carboxylic acid (-COOH) groups protruding on both sides of zincophosphate sheets are prepared, leading to a unique surface-active lamellar material characterized by modifiable wettability via a facile mechanochemical reaction. The interior -COOH groups lead to high thermal stability unusual to hybrid-layer structures and undergo the intriguingly reversible nano-morphological transformation never unveiled in metal oxysalts before.

Electronic nose (E-nose) systems have become popular in food and fruit quality evaluation because of their rapid and repeatable availability and robustness. In this paper, we propose an E-nose system that has potential as a non-destructive system for monitoring variation in the volatile organic compounds produced by fruit during the maturing process. In addition to the E-nose system, we also propose a camera system to monitor the peel color of fruit as another feature for identification.

A positive myocardial inotropic effect achieved using HNO/NO(-) , compared with NO⋅, triggered attempts to explore novel nitroxyl donors for use in clinical applications in vascular and myocardial pharmacology. To develop M-NO complexes for nitroxyl chemistry and biology, modulation of direct nitroxyl-transfer reactivity of dinitrosyl iron complexes (DNICs) is investigated in this study using a Fe(III) -porphyrin complex and proteins as a specific probe. Stable dinuclear {Fe(NO)2 }(9) DNIC [Fe(μ-(Me) Pyr)(NO)2 ]2 was discovered as a potent nitroxyl donor for nitroxylation of Fe(III) -heme centers through an associative mechanism.

Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) has shown its remarkable applications in biosensing, bioimaging, and nanophotonics. Unlike surface plasmon polariton (SPP), the current studies regarding LSPR as biosensor were restricted in probing the extinction spectra, and thus limit the performance in biosensing and bioimaging. Here, we reveal that optical phase of LSPR provides an acute change at resonance beyond extinction spectra, which permits an ultra-high sensitivity in phase interrogation.

A great deal of work has been done to develop techniques for odor analysis by electronic nose systems. These analyses mostly focus on identifying a particular odor by comparing with a known odor dataset. However, in many situations, it would be more practical if each individual odorant could be determined directly.
