The application of a pulsed laser ablation technique for the generation of cerium-doped garnet nanoparticles in liquids is investigated. The morphological and optical properties of the obtained nanoparticles are demonstrated. Features introduced by the single crystals of GdAlGaO:Ce, LuAlO:Ce, and YAlGaO:Ce from which the nanoparticles are generated, as well as the parameters of a liquid media on the garnet nanoparticle generation are experimentally studied using TEM and UV-Vis spectroscopy methods.

Peptidomimetics with a substituted imidazo[1,2-]pyridine fragment were synthesized by a tandem of Groebke-Blackburn-Bienaymé and Ugi reactions. The target products contain substituted imidazo[1,2-]pyridine and peptidomimetic moieties as pharmacophores with four diversity points introduced from readily available starting materials, including scaffold diversity. A small focused compound library of 20 Ugi products was prepared and screened for antibacterial activity.

Hypertensive Heart Disease: A Narrative Review Series-Part 1: Pathophysiology and Microstructural Changes.

J Clin Med

March 2023

Medical Outpatient Department and Hypertension Clinic, ESH Hypertension Centre of Excellence, University Hospital Basel, 4031 Basel, Switzerland.

Sustained hypertension causes structural, functional, and neurohumoral abnormalities in the heart, a disease commonly termed hypertensive heart disease (HHD). Modern concepts of HHD, including processes of remodeling leading to the development of various LVH patterns, HF patterns accompanied by micro- and macrovasculopathies, and heart rhythm and conduction disturbances, are missing in the available definitions, despite copious studies being devoted to the roles of myocardial and vascular fibrosis, and neurohumoral and sympathetic regulation, in HHD development and progression. No comprehensive and generally accepted universal definition and classification of HHD is available to date, implementing diagnostic criteria that incorporate all the possible changes and adaptions to the heart.

Quantum structures are ideal objects by which to discover and study new sensor mechanisms and implement advanced approaches in sensor analysis to develop innovative sensor devices. Among them, one of the most interesting representatives is the Yanson point contact. It allows the implementation of a simple technological chain to activate the quantum mechanisms of selective detection in gaseous and liquid media.

Ball Bearing Fault Diagnosis Using Recurrence Analysis.

Materials (Basel)

August 2022

Department of Natural Sciences, Mid Sweden University, 851 70 Sundsvall, Sweden.

This paper presents the problem of rolling bearing fault diagnosis based on vibration velocity signal. For this purpose, recurrence plots and quantification methods are used for nonlinear signals. First, faults in the form of a small scratch are intentionally introduced by the electron-discharge machining method in the outer and inner rings of a bearing and a rolling ball.

We combine the nonlinear Fourier transform (NFT) signal processing with machine learning methods for solving the direct spectral problem associated with the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The latter is one of the core nonlinear science models emerging in a range of applications. Our focus is on the unexplored problem of computing the continuous nonlinear Fourier spectrum associated with decaying profiles, using a specially-structured deep neural network which we coined NFT-Net.

Significant progress in development of noninvasive diagnostic tools based on breath analysis can be expected if one employs a real-time detection method based on finding a spectral breath profile which would contain some energy characteristics of the analyzed gas mixture. Using the fundamental energy parameters of a quantum system, it is possible to determine with a high accuracy its quantitative and qualitative composition. Among the most efficient tools to measure energy characteristics of quantum systems are sensors based on Yanson point contacts.

Background: A detonation of nuclear weapon (NW) is considered as one of the most devastating radiological scenarios in the list of modern global threats. An essential proportion of victims in a mass casualty radiation event may require an immediate medical care due to radiation combined injuries (RCI). Surprisingly, there is a lack of clear guidance for quantitative prognosis of the spatial distribution of expected RCI casesin a given nuclear explosion scenario.

The fetal heart rate (fHR) variability and fetal electrocardiogram (fECG) are considered the most important sources of information about fetal wellbeing. Non-invasive fetal monitoring and analysis of fECG are paramount for clinical trials. They enable examining the fetal health status and detecting the heart rate changes associated with insufficient oxygenation to cut the likelihood of hypoxic fetal injury.
