Introduction: Axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) for breast cancer has been considered to be associated with a variety of complications, such as excessive postoperative wound drainage, prolonged drain placement, or seroma formation in the short term, or arm lymphedema in the long run. Immediate lymphedema reconstruction (ILR) has been proposed to reduce the occurrence of arm lymphedema by anastomosing the transected arm lymphatics to nearby branches of the axillary vein immediately after ALND. This study aims to demonstrate that ILR can also reduce the postoperative drainage amount.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major cause of cancer death in Taiwan, and in the past 30-40 years, Taiwan has been committed to its prevention and treatment. We aimed to investigate the secular trends of characteristics and the survival of HCC in recent decades after making increased efforts. Between 2011 and 2019, a total of 73,817 cases were enrolled from the TCR database.

Stroke, a neurological emergency, is a leading cause of death and disability in adults worldwide. In acute or rehabilitative stages, stroke survivors sustain variable neurological recovery with long-term disabilities. The influence of post-stroke nutritional status on long-term survival has not been confirmed.

Background: Optimized conservative treatment of rib fractures has long been practiced, but surgical fixation has not been promising until recently. We aimed to examine and analyze immediate postoperative outcomes and 6-month quality of life after injury in patients with moderately severe traumatic rib fractures.
Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study between July 2017 and June 2019 at the National Taiwan University Hospital.

Ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC) is a distinct histotype of ovarian cancer, which usually presages a worse prognosis upon recurrence. Identifying patients at risk for relapse is an unmet need to improve outcomes. A retrospective cohort analysis of 195 early-stage OCCC patients diagnosed between January 2011 and December 2019 at National Taiwan University Hospital was conducted to identify prognostic factors for recurrence, progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS).

Previous studies have found that the emotion of anxiety in adults is easily influence by negative stimuli However, few studies have explored the effect of stimulus types on working memory performance and cognitive processing of adults with anxiety. This study aimed to explore the effects of anxiety on affective working memory and the role of stimulus types and valences on affective working memory performance. Forty adults were recruited for the experiment and were divided into two groups according to their anxiety levels.

A set of myelodysplasia-related (MDS-R) gene mutations are incorporated into the 2022 European LeukemiaNet risk classification as adverse genetic factors for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) based on their poor prognostic impact on older patients. The impact of these mutations on younger patients (age < 60 years) remains elusive. In the study of 1213 patients with de novo non-M3 AML, we identified MDS-R mutations in 32.

The 2022 International Consensus Classification (ICC) recategorized myeloid neoplasms based on recent advances in the understanding of the biology of hematologic malignancies, in which myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with blasts of 10%-19% is classified as MDS/acute myeloid leukemia (AML), MDS with mutated SF3B1, irrespective of the number of ring sideroblasts, as MDS-SF3B1, and those with multi-hit TP53 mutations as MDS with mutated TP53. In the analysis of 716 patients with MDS diagnosed according to the 2016 WHO classification, we found that 75.3% of patients remained in the MDS group based on the ICC, while 24.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) provide substantial benefits to a small subset of patients with advanced cancer with mismatch repair deficiency (MMRD) or microsatellite instability (MSI), including patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). However, the long duration of ICI treatment presents a considerable financial burden. We present the case of a 63-year-old woman with metastatic PDAC refractory to conventional chemotherapy.

Botulinum toxin A (BoNT-A) intravesical injections have been used to treat patients with refractory functional bladder disorders such as overactive bladder (OAB) and interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS), but the risk of adverse events and the need for repeated injections continue to prevent widespread application of this treatment. Liposomes are vesicles that comprise concentric phospholipid layers and an aqueous core; their flexible compositions enable them to adsorb and fuse with cell membranes and to deliver drugs or proteins into cells. Therefore, liposomes have been considered as promising vehicles for the less invasive delivery of BoNT-A.

Background: Anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive (ALK+) and ROS proto-oncogene 1 (ROS1)-positive (ROS1+) lung cancers have been reported to be associated with an elevated risk of thromboembolic events. This study aimed to assess the long-term risk of developing thromboembolism (TE) in ROS1+ lung cancer and to compare it with other oncogenic drivers in the Asian population.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively enrolled a cohort of ROS1+ lung adenocarcinoma in a medical center in Taiwan and a comparison cohort of ALK+ and epidermal growth factor receptor-positive (EGFR+) lung cancers.

This mini-review provides the practice guideline recommendations for ventilation of remodeled negative-pressure isolation wards for COVID-19 Patients. Remodeled "quasi-negative-pressure" isolation wards had been proved a feasible, inexpensive, safe, and effective measure to contain nosocomial outbreaks. We should first determine the minimum required ventilation volume of an isolation ward based on the severity of COVID-19 patients.

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a group of clinically and genetically diverse diseases that impose patients with an increased risk of leukemic transformation. While MDS is a disease of the elderly, the interplay between aging and molecular profiles is not fully understood, especially in the Asian population. Thus, we compared the genetic landscape between younger and older patients in a cohort of 698 patients with primary MDS to advance our understanding of the distinct pathogenesis and different survival impacts of gene mutations in MDS according to age.

Objectives: We used machine learning to incorporate three types of biomarkers (respiratory sinus arrhythmia, RSA; skin conductance, SC; finger temperature, FT) for examining the performance of diagnosing somatic symptom disorder (SSD).
Methods: We recruited 97 SSD subjects and 96 controls without psychiatric history or somatic distress. The values of RSA, SC and FT were recorded in three situations (resting state, under a cognitive task and under paced breathing) and compared for the two populations.

Objectives: Real-world experience with coformulated bictegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide (BIC/FTC/TAF) is sparse as a switch regimen among people living with HIV (PLWH) having achieved viral suppression after previous virologic failures with the emergence of K65N/R.
Methods: In this retrospective study, PLWH aged ≥20 years who had previous virologic failures with emergent K65N/R were included for switching to BIC/FTC/TAF after having achieved plasma HIV RNA load (PVL) <200 copies/ml for ≥3 months. PLWH were excluded if integrase inhibitor resistance-associated mutations were detected.

Background: Post-stroke disability restricts a patient's physical activity, affects the patient's quality of life, and leads to higher medical costs. Therefore, it is essential to promote patients' continuous exercise during this period of recovery.
Objective: This study aimed to verify the effectiveness of applying a health management platform combined with wearable devices to enhance stroke patients' self-management of recovery and to allow comparisons with active care intervention management.

Purpose: This study adopted the cervical and ocular vestibular-evoked myogenic potential (cVEMP and oVEMP) tests in Meniere's disease (MD) patients to correlate them with vestibular endolymphatic hydrops (EH) on MR images.
Methods: A total of 25 patients with unilateral definite MD identified by positive cochlear hydrops on MR images were enrolled. All patients underwent audiometry, cVEMP test and oVEMP test, followed by MR imaging for confirmation.
