Aims: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the major causes of ischaemic stroke. In addition to clinical risk evaluated by the CHA2DS2-VASC score, the impact of genetic factors on the risk of AF-related thromboembolic stroke has been largely unknown. We found several copy number variations (CNVs) in novel genes that were associated with thromboembolic stroke risk in our AF patients by genome-wide approach.

The nonunion rate of surgically treated basicervical peritrochanteric fractures has been reported to be as high as 9%. Due to the high 1-year mortality rate following revision surgery, finding an effective nonsurgical treatment option is of interest. Over the last decade, numerous reports have been published that have suggested teriparatide as an effective treatment for certain types of fracture nonunion.

Department of Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery, Affiliated Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, Hubei 430030, China. Electronic address:

Background: The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) made improvements for staging pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs) in its 8th Edition; however, multicenter studies were not included.

Methods: We collected multicenter datasets (n = 1,086, between 2004 and 2018) to validate the value of AJCC 8 and other coexisting staging systems through univariate and multivariate analysis for well-differentiated (G1/G2) pNETs.

Results: Compared to other coexisting staging systems, AJCC 7 only included 12 (1.

New staging classification for pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms combining TNM stage and WHO grade classification [].

Cancer Lett

October 2021

Department of Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery, Affiliated Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, Hubei, 430030, China. Electronic address:

AJCC TNM stage and WHO grade (G) are two widely used staging systems to guide clinical management for pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (panNENs), based on clinical staging and pathological grading information, respectively. We proposed to integrate TNM stage and G grade into one staging system (TNMG) and to evaluate its clinical application as a prognostic indicator for panNENs. Accordingly, 5254 patients diagnosed with panNENs were used to evaluate and to validate the applicability of TNMG to panNENs.

Unlabelled: Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (ccTGA) is associated with various types of arrhythmia, including supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and complete atrioventricular block (cAVB). Our study aims to characterize the arrhythmia burden, associated risk factors, arrhythmia mechanisms, and the long-term follow-up results in patients with ccTGA in a large Asian cohort.

Methods: We enrolled 104 patients (43 women and 61 men) diagnosed with ccTGA at our institution.

Neurological manifestations in severe acute respiratory syndrome.

Acta Neurol Taiwan

September 2005

Department of Neurology, National Taiwan University Hospital. No. 7, Chung-Shan South Road, Taipei, Taiwan.

Article Synopsis
  • During the SARS outbreak in 2002-2003, Taiwan reported 664 probable cases, with some patients experiencing rare neurological issues, including axonopathic polyneuropathy, myopathy, and rhabdomyolysis.
  • Three patients showed improvement after developing polyneuropathy weeks post-infection, while five others suffered from large artery ischemic strokes with poor outcomes due to multiple factors like hypercoagulability and septic shock.
  • The connection between SARS and these neurological complications remains unclear, highlighting the need for further pathological and microbiological studies.

Sudden cardiac arrest due to blunt anterior chest wall impact (Commotio Cordis) usually occurs in young athletes who are struck by a baseball or other projectile in the precordium. Survival is extremely rare if the induced ventricular fibrillation (VF) is not defibrillated immediately at the scene. We report here a rare case of a one-year-old infant survivor of cardiac arrest caused by blunt chest impact during an accidental fall from a fourth story window.

The prevalence of drug-resistant bacterial pathogens is very high in Taiwan. Accordingly, there was great concern that the introduction of fluconazole would result in rapid emergence of drug-resistant yeasts. Thus, we recommended in 1991 that fluconazole be used for treatment only.
