Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common cancer with an increasing incidence worldwide. The implementation of a mass screening program has been proven effective in reducing the global burden of CRC, but its effectiveness is not ideal and some metabolic derangements and lifestyle factors were reported to be attributable for such a deficit. Implementing positive lifestyle intervention as primary prevention therefore becomes critical because colorectal carcinogenesis can be promoted by several lifestyle factors, such as a lack of physical activity.

Enhanced Probe Bonding and Fluorescence Properties through Annealed Graphene Oxide Nanosheets.

ACS Biomater Sci Eng

May 2023

Institute of Biomedical Engineering, College of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu 300, Taiwan.

Article Synopsis
  • Graphene oxide (GO) is popular in biological sensing due to its strong physical and chemical properties, particularly its ability to bond with biomolecules.
  • Despite its benefits, the fluorescence of labeled biomolecules is diminished on GO surfaces, posing challenges for biosensing applications.
  • The study introduces an annealed GO (aGO) substrate, which enhances DNA probe bonding and maintains fluorescence stability by increasing the surface oxygen and exposing more graphic domains without harming the structure.
