Background And Objectives: Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is the most frequent genetic cerebrovascular disease. The clinical aspects of the disease in relation to the various types of lesions on MRI vary widely not only within families but also between different cohorts reported worldwide. Many limitations prevent comparison of imaging data obtained with different scanners and sequences in different patient cohorts.

Background: Near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence-guided surgery with indocyanine green (ICG) has been demonstrated to provide high sensitivity in sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) for breast cancer but has several limitations, such as unstable pharmacokinetics, limited fluorescence brightness, and undesired diffusion to neighboring tissues. This paper investigates the use of Voluven® as the solvent for ICG fluorescence-guided SLNB (ICG-SLNB).
Methods: The photophysical properties of ICG in water and Voluven® were evaluated in laboratory experiments and in a mouse model.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) are used as the standard first-line treatment for patients with advanced EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the impact of comorbidities and treatment toxicities on quality of life (QoL) was seldom investigated.
Objective: We aimed to investigate the association of comorbidities, adverse events (AEs), and QoL in treatment-naïve advanced NSCLC patients receiving EGFR-TKI treatments.

Background: Improved durability of modern biologic prostheses and growing experience with the transcatheter valve-in-valve technique have contributed to a substantial increase in the use of bioprostheses in younger patients. However, discussion of prosthetic valve selection in dialysis patients remains scarce as the guidelines are updated. This study aims to compare long-term outcomes between propensity score-matched cohorts of dialysis patients who underwent primary aortic valve replacement with a mechanical prosthesis or a bioprosthesis.

Optical clearing with high-refractive-index (high-n) reagents is essential for 3D tissue imaging. However, the current liquid-based clearing condition and dye environment suffer from solvent evaporation and photobleaching, causing difficulties in maintaining the tissue optical and fluorescent features. Here, using the Gladstone-Dale equation [(n-1)/density=constant] as a design concept, we develop a solid (solvent-free) high-n acrylamide-based copolymer to embed mouse and human tissues for clearing and imaging.

Confirmatory tests for diagnosis of primary aldosteronism (PA) play an important role in sparing patients with a false-positive aldosterone-to-renin ratio (ARR) screening test from undergoing invasive subtyping procedures. We recommend that patients with a positive ARR test should undergo at least one confirmatory test to confirm or exclude the diagnosis of PA before directly proceeding to subtype studies, except for patients with significant PA phenotypes, including spontaneous hypokalemia, plasma aldosterone concentration >20 ng/dL plus plasma renin activity below a detectable level. Although a gold standard confirmatory test has not been identified, we recommend that saline infusion test and captopril challenge test, which were widely used in Taiwan.

The presence of cranial and facial bone fractures is an important finding on non-enhanced head computed tomography (CT) scans from patients who have sustained head trauma. Some prior studies have proposed automatic cranial fracture detections, but studies on facial fractures are lacking. We propose a deep learning system to automatically detect both cranial and facial bone fractures.

Background: For people with human immunodeficiency virus (PWH) who have no serological responses to their primary hepatitis A virus (HAV) vaccination or have seroreversion after successful primary vaccination, the optimal revaccination strategy remains unclear.
Methods: In this open-label, randomized clinical trial, PWH who tested negative for anti-HAV antibodies after receiving a standard 2-dose series of primary HAV vaccination were enrolled and assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive either 1 dose (the 1-dose group) or 2 doses of HAV vaccine administered 4 weeks apart (the 2-dose group). Serological response rates and anti-HAV antibody titers were compared at weeks 24 and 48.

Epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) are commonly used to treat advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A rapid and reliable method for measuring plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of EGFR-TKIs is needed for therapeutic drug monitoring. By using UHPLC‒MS/MS with multiple reaction monitoring mode, we developed a method for rapidly determining the plasma and CSF concentrations of gefitinib, erlotinib, afatinib, and osimertinib.
