Background: Older patients are at risk for acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease. Age-related increases in DNA methylation at CpG islands have been linked to aging-related diseases like cancer and cardiovascular disease, but the exact causal relationship between methylation in renal aging and other kidney diseases remains unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the methylation status of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) in the Asian population.

Socio-cognitive difficulties in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are heterogenuous and often co-occur with irritability symptoms, such as angry/grouchy mood and temper outbursts. However, the specific relations between individual symptoms are not well-represented in conventional methods analyzing aggregated autistic symptoms and ASD diagnosis. Moreover, the cognitive-behavioral mechanisms linking ASD to irritability are largely unknown.

The cargo and function of circulating extracellular vesicles (EV) respond to changes in host physiology, including exercise, injury, and other interventions. Thus, we hypothesised that EVs induced following CR may reflect some of the beneficial properties of CR itself.

Introduction: Based on US-FDA guidelines to create tools for development and evaluation of medical devices in non-clinical and clinical studies, the Validated Intraoperative Bleeding (VIBe) Scale was developed. The current investigation expands upon the earlier validation study with multi-specialty surgeons to further corroborate these findings and establish feasibility to implement VIBe SCALE into clinical practice and surveys degree of anticipated bleeding across common procedures in multiple surgical disciplines.
Methods: Following online didactic VIBe SCALE training, participating surgeons graded bleeding in ten porcine model videos corresponding to the original validation study.

P2X7 signaling has been explored in adipose tissue because of its potential to promote ATP-activated inflammatory cascades during obesogenic environments. However, limited literature has investigated the role of the P2X7 receptor in lipid metabolism during adipocyte differentiation. This study sought to explore the regulatory roles of P2X7 in adipocytes.

Rationale: Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a lethal complication of severe bacterial pneumonia due to the inability to dampen overexuberant immune responses without compromising pathogen clearance. Both of these processes involve tissue-resident and bone marrow (BM)-recruited macrophage (MΦ) populations which can be polarised to have divergent functions. Surprisingly, despite the known immunomodulatory properties of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), simultaneous interactions with tissue-resident and recruited BMMΦ populations are largely unexplored.

The combination of radiotherapy and immunotherapy improves the survival rate of patients with malignancies developed through escape from T-cell-mediated immune surveillance. Immune checkpoint inhibitors, such as anti-programmed cell death protein-ligand 1 (anti-PD-L1) antibody, are used to rescue exhausted T cells. Simultaneously, dendritic cells (DCs) which are antigen-presenting cells that can initiate T-cell activation, are used to induce a tumor-specific immune response.

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a potential life-threatening condition and risk-adapted diagnostic and therapeutic management conveys a favorable outcome. For patients at high risk for early complications and mortality, prompt exclusion or confirmation of PE by imaging is the key step to initiate and facilitate reperfusion treatment. Among patients with hemodynamic instability, systemic thrombolysis improves survival, whereas surgical embolectomy or percutaneous intervention are alternatives in experienced hands in scenarios where systemic thrombolysis is not the best preferred thromboreduction measure.

Cells with CD133 overexpression, a theoretical cancer stem cells (CSCs) marker, have been shown to induce colorectal cancer (CRC) initiation and relapse. Therefore, the detection and treatment of CSCs are the most important factors in overcoming CRC. Herein, we developed a magnetite-based nanomedicine (superparamagnetic iron oxide@poly(sodium styrene sulfonate)/irinotecan/human serum albumin-anti-CD133 nanoparticle) using loco-regional hyperthermia combined with chemotherapy for CRC- and CSC-specific targeting treatment.
