In this work, a graphitic carbon nitride/gadolinium molybdate (g-CN/GdMoO) composite manufactured glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was used to detect nitrofurazone (NFZ) at the trace level. A quick and inexpensive electrochemical sensor for NFZ analysis is described in this paper. The material structure and properties were determined by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy.

A simple hydrothermal process has been used to prepare a carbon nanofiber/copper chromium dioxide (CNF/CuCrO) composite for the selective detection of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) and supercapacitor applications. The electrochemical sensor was developed with a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with the CNF/CuCrO composite by the drop-casting method. The structural formation of the prepared materials was confirmed by infrared spectroscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy.

Effect of Bis (2-Aminoethyl) Adipamide/Adipic Acid Segment on Polyamide 6: Crystallization Kinetics Study.

The crystallization behavior of novel polyamide 6 (PA6) copolyamides with different amounts of bis (2-aminoethyl) adipamide/adipic acid (BAEA/AA) segment was investigated. The wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) results showed that as the amount of BAEA/AA segment increased to 10 mole%, the crystalline forms of all PA6 copolyamide were transferred from the stable α-form to the unstable γ-form because of the complex polymer structure. According to studies of crystallization kinetics, the Avrami exponent () values for all copolyamide samples ranged from 1.

Superhydrophobic membranes are essential for improved seawater desalination. This study presents the successful casting of a three-layered membrane composed of a top superhydrophobic coating onto a polypropylene (PP) mat through simple sol-gel processing of octadecyltrimethoxysilane (OTMS), and the bottom layer was casted with hydrophilic poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) by using a knife casting technique; this membrane represents a novel class of improved-performance membranes consisting of a top superhydrophobic coating onto a hydrophobic PP mat and a hydrophilic layer (PVA) at the bottom. OTMSs are well known low-surface-energy materials that enhance superhydrophobicity, and they were observed to be the ideal chemical group for increasing the hydrophobicity of the PP mat.

Superhydrophobic membranes are necessary for effective membrane-based seawater desalination. This paper presents the successful fabrication of a novel electrospun nanofibrous membrane composed of polysulfone and Cera flava, which represents a novel class of enhanced performance membranes consisting of a superhydrophobic nanofibrous layer and hydrophobic polypropylene (PP). Cera flava, which helps lower the surface energy, was found to be the ideal additive for increasing the hydrophobicity of the polysulfone (PSF) polymeric solution because of its components such as long-chain hydrocarbons, free acids, esters, and internal chain methylene carbons.

In this work, three slanted silver nanorod arrays (NRAs) with different thicknesses are fabricated using the glancing angle deposition method. Each silver NRA in the Kretschmann configuration is arranged to form a prism/NRA/air system. A new integrated-optic polarization rotator with anisotropic cladding formed by oblique angle deposition is presented. Optical anisotropy with tilt principal axes in the obliquely deposited columnar thin film induces hybrid polarization modes in the waveguide and thus produces polarization rotation. The dependence of device characteristics on columnar film parameters, such as column angle, film thickness, extraordinary index, and optical anisotropy, is investigated by 3D full-vectorial finite difference beam propagation method.

Optical constant determination of an anisotropic thin film via polarization conversion.

This study presents a simple method for determining the optical constants of an anisotropic thin film. The sensitivity of enhanced polarization conversion reflectance to optical constants is also calculated and analyzed. Based on the sensitivity calculation, the principal indices and columnar tilt angle can be derived from the polarization conversion reflectance angular spectrum.
