Background: There are limited studies that explored the preparation and challenges faced by standardized patients (SPs) in portraying characters in difficult communication scenarios, and the strategies used to overcome these challenges. The purpose of this study was to understand the experience of SPs in interpreting difficult communication situations and the learning needs of performing similar scenarios. And it allows the researchers to explore the meaning, beliefs, values, and aspiration associated with their role as SPs.

Background: Older adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) are often subject to cognitive and gait deficits. Interactive Computerized Cognitive Training (ICCT) may improve cognitive function; however, the effect of such training on gait performance is limited. Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) improves cognition and gait performance.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined the sleep quality and psychological factors affecting hospitalized antepartum women in Taiwan, using a sample of 101 participants and various questionnaires to gather data on demographics, anxiety, stressors, and sleep quality.
  • - Results showed that a staggering 82.8% of the women reported poor sleep quality, which was influenced by factors like age, marital status, anxiety symptoms, and hospital-related stressors, accounting for 21% of the variance in their sleep quality.
  • - The findings highlight the need for healthcare providers to assess and address sleep and emotional well-being in antepartum women to help improve their sleep and reduce anxiety and stress during hospitalization.

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) induces a complex sequence of apoptotic cascades and inflammatory responses, leading to neurological impairment. Transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1), a nonselective cation channel with high calcium permeability, has been implicated in neuronal apoptosis and inflammatory responses. This study used a mouse ICH model and neuronal cultures to examine whether TRPV1 activation exacerbates brain damage and neurological deficits by promoting neuronal apoptosis and neuroinflammation.

After Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) genome replication and encapsidation in the nucleus, nucleocapsids are translocated into the cytoplasm for subsequent tegumentation and maturation. The EBV BGLF4 kinase, which induces partial disassembly of the nuclear lamina, and the nuclear egress complex BFRF1/BFLF2 coordinately facilitate the nuclear egress of nucleocapsids. Here, we demonstrate that within EBV reactivated epithelial cells, viral capsids, tegument proteins, and glycoproteins are clustered in the juxtanuclear concave region, accompanied by redistributed cytoplasmic organelles and the cytoskeleton regulator IQ-domain GTPase-activation protein 1 (IQGAP1), close to the microtubule-organizing center (MTOC).

Department of Pathology, National Cheng Kung University Hospital, College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan; Department of Pathology, Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital, College of Medicine, Kaohsiung Medical University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Center for Cancer Research, Kaohsiung Medical University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Electronic address:

BLS-type diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) denotes an uncommon, aggressive variant of DLBCL presenting initially in bone marrow, liver and spleen without lymphadenopathy or mass lesion. Patients with BLS-type DLBCL present frequently with haemophagocytic syndrome which often leads to early patient demise. Programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) plays a negative regulatory role on effector T cells and is an important target of immunotherapy.

Institute of Injury Prevention and Control, College of Public Health, Taipei Medical University, 250 Wu-Hsing Street, Taipei, 11031, Taiwan, ROC.

Background: Knowledge of predictors of cognitive frailty (CF) trajectories is required to develop preventive strategies to delay or reverse the progression from CF to dementia and other adverse outcomes. This 2-year prospective study aimed to investigate factors affecting the progression and improvement of CF in older Taiwanese adults.

Methods: In total, 832 community-dwelling people aged ≥ 65 years were eligible.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzed 615 HER2-negative breast cancer samples to compare genomic mutations between tumors categorized as HER2-0 and HER2-low, finding notable differences in molecular profiles and clinicopathological features.
  • - Results revealed that HER2-low tumors had a higher percentage of estrogen/progesterone receptor-positive tumors and more low Ki-67 levels, but fewer early-stage cases compared to HER2-0 tumors.
  • - The study also identified a significantly higher frequency of certain genetic alterations in HER2-low compared to HER2-0 and luminal-like breast cancer versus triple-negative breast cancer, suggesting that early mutation detection could guide treatment decisions for HER2-low patients.

Both the high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection and tobacco exposure are significantly associated with cervical neoplasm risk. Immune cells play important roles in carcinogenesis. However, it is still unclear whether immune cells have a mediating effect on the HR-HPV infection and tobacco exposure with cervical neoplasm development.

Dengue fever is a viral infectious disease transmitted through mosquito bites, and has symptoms ranging from mild flu-like symptoms to deadly complications. Dengue fever is one of the global burden diseases which annually have 50-100 million cases with 500,000 cases of severe dengue fever, of which 22,000 deaths occur mostly in children. Despite the discovery of vaccines, vector control is still the main approach for prevention efforts.

This paper describes the development of Health Level Seven Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR) profiles for pathology reports integrated with whole slide images and clinical data to create a pathology research database. A report template was designed to collect structured reports, enabling pathologists to select structured terms based on a checklist, allowing for the standardization of terms used to describe tumor features. We gathered and analyzed 190 non-small-cell lung cancer pathology reports in free text format, which were then structured by mapping the itemized vocabulary to FHIR observation resources, using international standard terminologies, such as the International Classification of Diseases, LOINC, and SNOMED CT.

Article Synopsis
  • Osteoporotic compression fractures are typically treated with vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty, but these procedures face risks like cement leakage that can harm nerves.
  • A new technique, called "decompressed kyphoplasty," was tested against high viscosity cement vertebroplasty in a study of 136 patients for its effectiveness in reducing cement leakage.
  • The results showed a lower overall cement leakage rate in the decompressed kyphoplasty group (9.1% vs. 18.6%), particularly reducing the risk of intradiscal leakage in patients without specific X-ray signs, although some results weren't statistically significant.
