On the Network Transmission Mechanisms of Disease-Specific Healthcare Expenditure Spillovers: Evidence from the Connectedness Network Analyses.

Previous studies investigating factors influencing healthcare expenditure growth ignored the network transmission mechanisms of disease-specific healthcare expenditure spillovers and regarded the processes culminating in healthcare expenditure growth as a black box. In this study, we investigated factors influencing the network transmission mechanisms underlying the determinants of healthcare expenditure growth through the dynamic connectedness network and the robust least square regression analyses. Our results indicate that demographic transition and business cycles are key factors increasing interconnectedness of different disease-specific healthcare expenditures, and that promotion of primary care utilization would reduce total healthcare expenditure spillovers.

Taiwan`s various ethnic groups, including 16 indigenous groups, represent disparate distinct cultures and backgrounds. In long-term care, culturally safe services that reflect cultural expectations and practices must be provided to older-adult recipients of care. As frontline healthcare workers face practical challenges in providing these services appropriately, "cultural safety instructors" may be used to help facilitate indigenous cultural care.

Self-Efficacy Care Program for Older Adults Receiving Hip-Fracture Surgery.

Hip fractures decrease older adults' physical activity and quality of life (QoL). However, no current self-efficacy care programs are managed by clinical nurses, and thus no studies have measured their effects on self-care self-efficacy (SCSE). Hence, this quasi-experimental study determined the effectiveness of a self-efficacy care program (SECP) in 104 older adults receiving hip-fracture surgery who were divided into intervention and control groups.

Structural basis for the interaction modes of dihydroorotase with the anticancer drugs 5-fluorouracil and 5-aminouracil.

Dihydroorotase (DHOase) is the third enzyme in the de novo biosynthesis pathway of pyrimidine nucleotides and considered an attractive target for potential antimalarial, anticancer, and antipathogen chemotherapy. Whether the FDA-approved clinical drug 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) that is used to target the enzyme thymidylate synthase for anticancer therapy can also bind to DHOase remains unknown. The outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19), a public health emergency of international concern, has made healthcare staff preparation and the nurturing of high-quality and adequate nursing professionals critical issues. This study aimed to explore registered nurses' competence in nursing care and their intention to stay in their current workplace. In this study, participants who had graduated from different nursing education systems were recruited.

Nondestructive Detection of the Gel State of Preserved Eggs Based on Dielectric Impedance.

After completing the production of preserved eggs, traditionally, the degree of gelling is judged by allowing workers to tap the preserved eggs with their fingers and sense the resulting oscillations. The amount of oscillation is used for the quality classification. This traditional method produces varying results owing to the differences in the sensitivity of the individual workers, who are not objective.

Efficacy of percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy for pediatric lumbar disc herniation and degeneration on magnetic resonance imaging: case series and literature review.

Objective: Pediatric lumbar disc herniation (LDH), although uncommon, causes significant pain, discomfort, and sometimes disability. We examined the efficacy of percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) for pediatric LDH and the degree of lumbar disc degeneration at 1 year after PELD.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the data of pediatric patients with LDH who underwent PELD from December 2007 to July 2018.

Continuity of Care and the Quality of Life among Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Cross-Sectional Study in Taiwan.

There are various methods to generate nanobubbles, and in this study, we experimented using a nanobubble generator with a high-density of stainless steel mesh nozzle to deliver nanobubble water (normal water and two kinds of mouthwash) stream through a tooth tray to clean bacteria coated on the denture. It showed that with various combinations of motor speed settings and pore diameters, a clearing rate of 95% or more could be achieved, while in some combinations, a clearing rate of 100% was possible. This confirmed the plaque removing the function of the nanobubble water streams.

A major binding molecule of IGF, IGF-binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3), regulates multiple IGF effects. Here, we focused on the effect of IGFBP-3 in the motility of osteosarcoma cells and examined signaling regulation.

Novel strategy for food safety risk management and communication: Risk identification for benzoic acid residues in pickled vegetables.

Benzoic acid (BA) is widely used as an antimicrobial preservative to prolong the shelf-life of pickled vegetables. A method for rapidly determining the BA content in forty pickled vegetable samples was developed by coupling ultrasonic extraction with surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and an adaptive iteratively reweighted penalized least-squares (AirPLS) algorithm. The results obtained with this method were compared and correlated with those from high-performance liquid chromatography measurements.

Determinants of the Public Health Promotion Behavior: Evidence from Repurchasing Health Foods for Improving Gastrointestinal Tract Functions.

Researchers believe that health foods can promote health and that the consumption of health foods can effectively help people to maintain their health. This study mainly adopted the health belief model (HBM) integrated with perceived behavioral control to investigate the repurchase behavior of consumers with regard to health foods that improve gastrointestinal functions. We obtained 550 valid questionnaires from consumers who had purchased gastrointestinal health foods and conducted structural equation modeling.

Use of Modern Regression Analysis in the Dielectric Properties of Foods.
