Breast cancer is a leading cause of mortality among women in Taiwan and globally. Non-invasive imaging methods, such as mammography and ultrasound, are critical for early detection, yet standalone modalities have limitations in regard to their diagnostic accuracy. This study aims to enhance breast cancer detection through a cross-modality fusion approach combining mammography and ultrasound imaging, using advanced convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures.

This paper presents a copper(I)-catalyzed intramolecular tandem acylation/-arylation of methyl 2-[2-(2-bromophenyl)acetamido]benzoates for the synthesis of benzofuro[3,2-]quinolin-6(5)-ones under mild conditions. The combination of CuI, 1,10-phenanthroline, and KCO in DMSO was found to be the optimal reaction condition, producing the target products in high yields (84-99%) at 70 °C for 16 h. The tandem reaction was applicable to substrates bearing halo, electron-withdrawing, and electron-donating groups at their phenyl moieties with a broad substrate scope.

Surface oxidation effect on photocurrent responsibility was detected in WSeTe nanosheets, and the photocurrent response depends on the light wavelength. It is enhanced at the wavelength of 405 nm, while showing no change at the wavelength of 532 nm and suppressed at the wavelength of 808 nm. The incident photon-to-current efficiency (IPCE) is expected to increase at 405 nm wavelength, remain unchanged at 532 nm wavelength, and decrease at 808 nm wavelength.

NiO is a wide-bandgap p-type metal oxide that has extensive applications in optoelectronics and photocatalysts. Understanding the carrier dynamics in p-type NiO is pivotal for optimizing device performance, yet they remain largely unexplored. In this study, we employed femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy to delve into the dynamics of photogenerated carriers in NiO films containing distinct prominent native defects: undoped NiO with oxygen vacancies () and O-rich NiO (denoted as NiO) with nickel vacancies ().

Bacterial infections in wounds, especially in patients with chronic conditions like diabetic wounds, pose significant treatment challenges. Addressing the susceptibility to infection is crucial, and the development of functional dressings to prevent bacterial invasion has proven a promising strategy. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), derived from bio-resources and functioning as nanoparticles (NPs), were modified with poly[2-(tert-butylamino) ethyl methacrylate] (PTA) through atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) to create CNCs-graft-PTA NPs (CNPs).

The Jun dimerization protein (Jdp2) gene is active in mouse cerebellar granule cells and its protein product plays a crucial role in the formation of the cerebellum lobes through programmed cell death. However, the role of Jdp2 in cellular differentiation and pluripotency in the cerebellum, and the effect of the antioxidation reaction on cell plasticity, remain unknown. N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) induced the early commitment of the differentiation of granule cell precursors (GCPs) to neurons, especially Purkinje cells, via the γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptor α6 subunit (Gabra6) axis; moreover, Jdp2 depletion enhanced this differentiation program of GCPs.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the use of serum inflammatory markers as prognostic indicators for survival in patients with metastatic urothelial carcinoma (mUC) receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).
  • Data from two medical centers in Taiwan were analyzed, focusing on markers like neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), to assess their impact on overall and progression-free survival.
  • The findings suggest that specific inflammatory markers, along with other clinical factors, can effectively predict patient outcomes, emphasizing the need for reliable prognostic tools in mUC treatment.

The in situ monitoring of dynamic covalent macromolecular boronate esters represents a difficult task. In this report, we present an in situ method using fluoride coordination and B NMR spectroscopy to determine the amount of boronate esters in a mixture of boronic acids and cis-diols. With fluoride coordination, the boronic acid and boronate esters afforded trifluoroborate and fluoroboronate esters, giving identical resonances at 3 and 9 ppm in the B NMR spectra.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to explore changes in circadian clock and Toll-like receptor gene expressions in blood cells of patients with Meniere's disease (MD) and vestibular migraine (VM) to see if these differences can help in distinguishing between the two conditions.
  • The research includes 69 participants, comparing blood samples from those with MD and VM during vertigo episodes to healthy controls, revealing significant differences in gene expression, particularly involving the PER and TLR genes.
  • Findings suggest that there are distinct genetic markers linked to MD and VM, which may aid in understanding their different underlying causes and provide potential biomarkers for diagnosis.
