To evaluate the analgesic effects of intravenous magnesium in patients undergoing thoracic surgery. Randomised clinical trials (RCTs) were systematically identified from MEDLINE, EMBASE, Google Scholar and the Cochrane Library from inception to May 1st, 2023. The primary outcome was the effect of intravenous magnesium on the severity of postoperative pain at 24 hours following surgery, while the secondary outcomes included association between intravenous magnesium and pain severity at other time points, morphine consumption, and haemodynamic changes.

Catalytic nitrite reductions by Cu complexes containing anionic Tp, neutral Tpm, or neutral TIC ligands in the presence of L-ascorbic acid, which served as an electron donor and proton source, were investigated. The results showed that auxiliary ligands are important for copper-mediated catalytic nitrite reduction. Furthermore, the electronic effects of the ligand govern the nitrite reduction efficiency, which should be considered at two control points: one is the susceptibility of the LCu-nitrite species to protonation and the other is the susceptibility of LCu to reduction giving LCu.

Detoxification of pesticide residues requires effective methods. In this regard, the adsorption efficiency of diethylaminoethyl cellulose (DEAE-cellulose) as an adsorbent material for the removal of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) from water at different concentrations, times, pH and temperature was evaluated comprehensively. The obtained results showed that DEAE-cellulose has greater efficacy to eliminate 2,4-D from water with a high Langmuir maximum adsorption capacity of 429.

A chitosan (a glucosamine polysaccharide)-diatomaceous earth hybrid was studied for the adsorption of 4,4'-dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane (4,4'-DDT), a persistent organic pollutant and organochlorine pesticide compound from water. The diverse adsorption process parameters were studied and the modified adsorbent was characterized through XRD, SEM-EDX, FT-IR, XRF, BET and TGA analysis. The concentration of 4,4'-DDT was measured using gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) by adopting a validated analytical procedure.

Currently, few phosphorescent materials (PMs) possess a long phosphorescence lasting time and have potential for application in chemical sensors. Herein, we disclose that the incorporation of few-layer molybdenum disulfide quantum dots (FL-MoS QDs) into poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) matrices leads to the emission of bright green phosphorescence with a long lasting time of 3.0 s and a phosphorescence quantum yield of 20%.

In recent decades, food safety has become a major concern due to frequent food safety incidents in many countries. This may lead to increased health risks associated with low quality food consumption, thereby reducing consumer trust in food safety. A better understanding of consumer perceptions of food safety can improve indicators that do not meet consumer expectations.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore the effects of laser acupuncture on improvement of recovery and muscle performance in delayed muscle soreness (DOMS) when applied before exercise.
Methods: This randomized, blinded, and controlled study included healthy participants (n = 40) who were randomized into laser acupuncture and placebo groups. Laser acupuncture was applied to the Tianquan (PC2) and Chihtseh acupoints (LU5) at a dose of 36 J and energy density of 9.

Hydrogels with tunable viscoelasticity hold promise as materials that can recapitulate many dynamic mechanical properties found in native tissues. Here, covalent adaptable boronate bonds are exploited to prepare hydrogels that exhibit fast relaxation, with relaxation time constants on the order of seconds or less, but are stable for long-term cell culture and are cytocompatible for 3D cell encapsulation. Using human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC) as a model, the fast relaxation matrix mechanics are found to promote cell-matrix interactions, leading to spreading and an increase in nuclear volume, and induce yes-associated protein/PDZ binding domain nuclear localization at longer times.

The present review article addresses onto the material design, device design and process design using parameters closely related to the chemical compositions. Its variation leads to change in the Poisson equation, current equation, and continuity equation governing the device design.

Fast radio bursts are bright, unresolved, non-repeating, broadband, millisecond flashes, found primarily at high Galactic latitudes, with dispersion measures much larger than expected for a Galactic source. The inferred all-sky burst rate is comparable to the core-collapse supernova rate out to redshift 0.5.

The photo-oxidation of Hg(0) in a lab-scale reactor by titanium dioxide (TiO2) coated on the surface of glass beads was investigated at high temperatures. TiO2 was calcinated at four different temperatures of 300 °C, 400 °C, 500 °C and 600 °C (noted as Ti300, Ti400, Ti500 and Ti600) and characterized for its physicochemical properties. The calcinated TiO2 coating on the glass beads was then tested to compare the photo-oxidation efficiencies of Hg(0) with an incident light of 365 nm.
