Burns are dynamic injuries characterized by an initial zone of necrosis that progresses to compromise surrounding tissue. Acute inflammation and cell death are two main factors contributing to burn progression. These processes are modulated by Connexin43 (Cx43) hemichannels and gap junctions in burns and chronic wounds.

Background: Connexin 43 (Cx43) plays a central role in the inflammatory response and wound healing. Targeting Cx43 expression reduces inflammation in a variety of injuries. The expression pattern of Cx43 has not been described for many inflammatory skin diseases.

We selected 10 CADRs-of-interest, and identified the suspected drugs and the characteristics of the at-risk population. ADR reports received from 2006 to 2015 of the system organ class "Skin and Appendages Disorders" were analyzed based on patient demographics, the types of CADRs, suspected drugs, outcome, and latency period.

Background: We studied the seroprevalance of HSV (herpes simplex virus)-1 and HSV-2 in outpatient attendees of a sexually transmitted infection (STI) clinic in Singapore and examined their knowledge and attitudes towards HSV infection.
Methods: Two hundred male and 200 female participants were recruited in the study. Questionnaires were administered and blood samples were taken and analysed using the HerpeSelect 1 and 2 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) IgG assays (type-specific serological tests).
This study examined the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in a cohort of female sex workers in Singapore. HPV infection was diagnosed by clinical examination, Papanicolaou (Pap) smears, histology and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). One hundred and eighty-seven female sex workers who came for their routine medical screening were enrolled into the study.

Sex workers are not confined to brothels, they also include a variety of individuals who practise part-time in establishments conductive to sexual liaisons. We undertook to study the extent of sex work among masseuses and nightclub hostesses and the level of AIDS and STD knowledge in these 2 groups. The studies were conducted in 1993 and 1996.
