Salmonella is found to be a major causes of food borne diseases globally. Poultry products contaminated with this pathogen is one of the major sources of infections in humans. Outer membrane protein C (OmpC) of Salmonella Typhimurium is a promising DNA vaccine candidate to mitigate Salmonella infection in poultry.

Objectives: Almost each year, a few Salmonella serovars isolated for the first time are noted in Poland. Each such serovar should be regarded as potentially dangerous. Recognition of them and monitoring their occurrence and frequency of distribution in all sources is important to control salmonellosis, and is one of the roles of the National Salmonella Centre.

The present study was conducted to study the antibiotic resistance pattern among nontyphoidal Salmonella isolated from human, animal and meat. A total of 37 Salmonella strains isolated from clinical cases (human and animal) and meat during 2008-2009 belonging to 12 serovars were screened for their antimicrobial resistance pattern using 25 antimicrobial agents falling under 12 different antibiotic classes. All the Salmonella isolates tested showed multiple drug resistance varying from 5.

Background: Buffalo is the major source of animal protein in south-east Asia, including India; therefore, the presence of multiple drug resistance in Salmonella strains of buffalo meat and milk products is of immense public health concern.
Methodology: Forty-six strains of Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica belonging to eight serovars (S. Anatum, 13; S.

The present study on a defined deletion aroA mutant (B-26) of Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serovar Abortusequi (S. Abortusequi) for residual virulence and safety in experimental model revealed that the virulence of the strain was at no difference in any of the cell assays (caprine alveolar macrophages, bovine alveolar macrophages, guinea pig blood mononuclear cells and horse blood mononuclear cells) than that of its parent virulence plasmid cured (S-787) and wild type (E-156) strains. The mutant did not cause any apparent illness in baby guinea pigs (15 days old), adult male and female guinea pigs and also not in pregnant (54-55 days of gestation) guinea pigs through oral (4.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an alternative treatment modality involving light activated drugs, called photosensitizers (PSs), to treat cancer and non-cancerous conditions. The search for new compounds which might become effective PSs is the major direction for PDT development. In the present work we have studied the dark toxicity, intracellular localization and photodynamic properties of four potential, water soluble, second generation PSs--PP(Arg)(2), PP(Ser)(2)Arg(2), PP(Ala)(2)Arg(2), PP(Phe)(2)Arg(2), all diamino acid derivatives of protoporphyrin IX.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment for cancer and non-cancerous lesions involving light and a sensitizing drug, a so-called photosensitizer. Photosensitizers for PDT usually accumulate in tumour tissues with some selectivity. Thus, malignant and abnormal cells can be destroyed by PDT which acts by producing singlet oxygen and possible other reactive oxygen species.

The fluorescence kinetics of a new photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy, di-l-arginine protoporphyrinate (PP(Arg)2), was studied in the skin of healthy mice. Furthermore, induction of necrosis in WiDr human colon adenocarcinoma xenografts in athymic nude mice was studied after photodynamic therapy (PDT) with PP(Arg)2. After intravenous administration of PP(Arg)2 maximal fluorescence was reached after 72h in normal mouse skin.

Subclinical infection of guinea pigs with isogenic wild type and aroA, htrA and aroA-htrA mutants of Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serovar Abortusequi (S. Conception rate was significantly lower in guinea pigs inoculated with wild type (S-787) and aroA mutant of S.

Salmonella was isolated from 35 samples (9 coriander, 5 mint, 10 radish, and 11 carrot) while Escherichia coli was detected in 181 samples (67 coriander, 44 mint, 36 carrot, and 34 radish). We screened serum samples of 1024 goats slaughtered for chevon in Bareilly in Northern India for Salmonella antibodies with indirect ELISA, MAT-H (microagglutination test using flagellar antigens e, n, x and 1, 5) and MAT-O (microagglutination test using somatic antigens 4, 12 and 3, 10, 15). Salmonella antibodies were detected in 48, 8 and 40%, goats using Salmonella-cytotoxi-I ELISA, MAT 'H' and MAT 'O', respectively. After adjusting for test accuracy, the seroprevalence were highest for Salmonella-cytotoxi-I ELISA (46%) followed by agglutinins against 'O' 3, 10, 15 (15%) and negligible for other agglutinins.

Immunological response related to photodynamic therapy (PDT) is one of the basic elements that influence on the efficiency of this cancer treatment method. Diamino acid derivatives of protoporphyrin IX are promising photosensitizing agents that are intended to be the components of new anti-tumor drug. The influence of three derivatives - PP(Ser)(2)Arg(2), PP(Ala)(2)Arg(2), PP(Phe)(2)Arg(2) and a mixture of these compounds called Sensyphyrine on mouse immunological system was investigated where animals were exposed and unexposed to the laser irradiation.

Haemolysins of Salmonella are important due to their probable role in pathogenesis of systemic salmonellosis and use in sub-serovar level typing. The present study was undertaken to determine haemolytic potential of Salmonella Gallinarum strains through phenotypic and genotypic methods. Amplification of haemolysin gene (clyA) and cytolysin gene (slyA) was attempted in order to determine their role in haemolysin production.

Heat shock protein (Hsp) 60 of Salmonella appears to be involved in pathogenesis of infectious processes and host immune responses. Eggs of laying hens from two Salmonella Enteritidis naturally infected flocks (I--acute outbreak of infection; II--occasional bacteria excretion) and one control flock (III) were tested for the presence of yolk antibodies (IgY) against Hsp60 by applying enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The levels of specific immunoglobulins were related to those against lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and flagellin.
