In this work we consider a superradiant phase transition problem for the Dicke-Ising model, which generalizes the Dicke and Ising models for annealed complex networks presuming spin-spin interaction. The model accounts for the interaction between a spin-1/2 (two-level) system and external classical (magnetic) and quantized (transverse) fields. We examine regular, random, and scale-free network structures characterized by the δ function, random (Poisson), and power-law exponent [p(k)∝k^{-γ}] degree distributions, respectively.

This paper is devoted to justification of the application of quantum probability theory to problems of cognition, psychology, and decision making. Such applications are heavily based on quantum-like representation of interference of events that is formalized with complex probability amplitudes ("mental wave functions") and the Born rule for calculation of probability. In this paper, we present universal mathematical formalization of interference of events based on the calculus of intensities of interacting processes.

Generalized Fock space and contextuality.

International Center for Mathematical Modeling in Physics, Engineering, Economics, and Cognitive Science, Linnaeus University, 351 95 Växjö, Sweden.

This paper is devoted to linear space representations of contextual probabilities-in generalized Fock space. This gives the possibility to use the calculus of creation and annihilation operators to express probabilistic dynamics in the Fock space (in particular, the wide class of classical kinetic equations). In this way, we reproduce the Doi-Peliti formalism.

We start with a review on classical probability representations of quantum states and observables. We show that the correlations of the observables involved in the Bohm-Bell type experiments can be expressed as correlations of classical random variables. The main part of the paper is devoted to the conditional probability model with conditioning on the selection of the pairs of experimental settings.

Room-Temperature Spin Polariton Diode Laser.

A spin-polarized laser offers inherent control of the output circular polarization. We have investigated the output polarization characteristics of a bulk GaN-based microcavity polariton diode laser at room temperature with electrical injection of spin-polarized electrons via a FeCo/MgO spin injector. Polariton laser operation with a spin-polarized current is characterized by a threshold of ∼69  A/cm^{2} in the light-current characteristics, a significant reduction of the electroluminescence linewidth and blueshift of the emission peak.

We propose a novel mechanism for designing quantum hyperbolic metamaterials with the use of semiconductor Bragg mirrors containing periodically arranged quantum wells. The hyperbolic dispersion of exciton-polariton modes is realized near the top of the first allowed photonic miniband in such a structure which leads to the formation of exciton-polariton X waves. Exciton-light coupling provides a resonant nonlinearity which leads to nontrivial topologic solutions.

Small-signal modulation characteristics of a polariton laser.

Sci Rep

Center for Photonics and Multiscale Nanomaterials, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Michigan, 1301 Beal Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI 48109, USA.

Use of large bandgap materials together with electrical injection makes the polariton laser an attractive low-power coherent light source for medical and biomedical applications or short distance plastic fiber communication at short wavelengths (violet and ultra-violet), where a conventional laser is difficult to realize. The dynamic properties of a polariton laser have not been investigated experimentally. We have measured, for the first time, the small signal modulation characteristics of a GaN-based electrically pumped polariton laser operating at room temperature.

Metamaterials, artificial electromagnetic media realized by subwavelength nano-structuring, have become a paradigm for engineering electromagnetic space, allowing for independent control of both electric and magnetic responses of the material. Whereas most metamaterials studied so far are limited to passive structures, the need for active metamaterials is rapidly growing. However, the fundamental question on how the energy of emitters is distributed between both (electric and magnetic) interaction channels of the metamaterial still remains open.

Light localization in disordered systems and Bragg scattering in regular periodic structures are considered traditionally as two entirely opposite phenomena: disorder leads to degradation of coherent Bragg scattering whereas Anderson localization is suppressed by periodicity. Here we reveal a non-trivial link between these two phenomena, through the Fano interference between Bragg scattering and disorder-induced scattering, that triggers both localization and de-localization in random systems. We find unexpected transmission enhancement and spectrum inversion when the Bragg stop-bands are transformed into the Bragg pass-bands solely owing to disorder.

Metamaterials with conformational nonlinearity.

Sci Rep

Nonlinear Physics Center, Research School of Physics and Engineering, Australian National University, Canberra ACT 0200, Australia; National Research University for Information Technology, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO), Saint Petersburg 197101, Russia.

Within a decade of fruitful development, metamaterials became a prominent area of research, bridging theoretical and applied electrodynamics, electrical engineering and material science. Being man-made structures, metamaterials offer a particularly useful playground to develop interdisciplinary concepts. Here we demonstrate a novel principle in metamaterial assembly which integrates electromagnetic, mechanical, and thermal responses within their elements.
